Leicester On The Up

In the English Premiership, after sacking their manager during the week, LEICESTER CITY have stepped up a gear and have moved out of the regulation zone after they beat LIVERPOOL 3-1 at home. But the three goals only take’s Leicester’s goal tally to 36 while Liverpool hit goal number 69.

Week Thirty

It’s Week Thirty of Season 34 and we had our thirty-fifth winner of the season as a total of four players won a share in this weekends cash on a total of 9 goals. Our winners are BARBARA BARNES (2), our 2014/15 Champion TOBY BICKNELL, PHIL FRANCKSEN and BOB SAWYER. One of our winners Barbara has picked up her second win of the season with her second combination. Barbara last won some cash in our double rollover in week twenty-three which included the Christmas Jackpot. This is the highest that Barbara has been this season to date.

Toby picks up his first win of the season and he became Champion in the 2014/15 Season, which was his first season with us, when he won on a score of 311 goals and won a cool £100 plus two shared weekend wins. Not only that, he won the 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot of £30. He currently lies twelfth in our Champions League. Last Season he finished in 66^th place on a total of 249 goals with one weekend win. This season Toby has been as high as 52^nd place and that was in week one. He has not had any blank score sheets to date.

Phil is in his very first season with Golden Goals and I would like to thank him for joining in this season. Phil has been as high as 29^th place in week seven but he has had three blank score sheets to date.

Bob has been with the competition for seven seasons now and in his first season of 2010/11 Bob finished in the winning frame in second place on 302 goals. He was five goals behind that seasons Champion Tony Guy. Last season Bob finished in 49^th place on 254 goals. This season he has also had no blank score sheets and his highest position to date is 19^th in week seven. Our four winners picked up just £1.50 pence each and they all have Celtic as their best team.

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Most of us managed to pick up some more midweek goals this week with the highest score that we had was seven goals and they went to STEPHEN LEADER.  Steve picked them up from Arsenal 2, Hibernian 3 and Newcastle 2. There was again just a few changes in the race for the cash this week with DARYL NICHOLLS remaining in the lead now with a total of 97 goals which means he still needs just three goals to win the £80 cash. In second place still five goals behind Daryl is GRANT PHILLIPS now on a total of 92 goals. In third place all on 90 goals we still have DANIEL GOODSON but he is now joined with ANDY EYLES and MANGO both up from four. In fourth place up from five we have CHRIS SETFORD now on a total of 89 goals. In fifth place is still on STALKY (2) on 88 goals while DAVID SMITHERS is in sixth place on86 goals.

WEEKEND RESULTS

Not a bad weekend for goals as the average score moved up from three goals last weekend to 5 goals this weekend.  We had seven of our teams without a game over the weekend with another ten teams that failed to score any goals. The highest score over the weekend came from two of our teams and they were BRENTFORD and TOTTENHAM.

BRENTFORD from the English Championship won 4-2 at home to Rotherham and that now gives them a total of 55 goals. In the English Premiership TOTTENHAM won 4-0 at home to STOKE. Tottenham are now on a total of 65 goals while Stoke picked up their seventh blank of the season.

EFL Cup Final

Well I hate to say that I was right in that MANCHESTER UNITED picked up the first piece of silver ware as they just managed to beat SOUTHAMPTON 3-2 in the League Cup Final. If you can remember that I was the only person to vote for United on our poll on the Golden Goals blog and that’s only because I have them again this season. Still United are now on a total of 62 while Southampton are on 40.

PREMIERSHIP

CHELSEA are now on a total of 73 goals as they beat Swansea 3-1 at home to remain top of the Premiership. Tottenham moved into second place after their big win while Manchester City fall down to third with Arsenal still in fourth place as both teams had no game this week. Liverpool also had no game and remained in fifth place with Manchester United in sixth place. EVERTON are in seventh place as they win 2-0 at home to Sunderland and that takes their goals tally to 47 goals. WEST HAM drew 1-1 away to Watford and they are now on 39 goals while it’s 40 for BOURNEMOUTH as they lost 2-1 away to West Brom.

CHAMPIONSHIP

We still have the top two teams here with BRIGHTON on top after they won 3-0 at home to Reading. Brighton take their goals tally to 69. Newcastle are now just one point behind Brighton as they drew 2-2 at home to Bristol City. Newcastle are now on a total of 79 goals.

In the play-off zone, we still have two teams with LEEDS UNITED moving up to fourth place at home to SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY. Leeds are now on 54 goals while Wednesday picked up their sixth blank of the season and they have remained in sixth place.

Meanwhile it’s 71 goals for NORWICH as they drew 1-1 at home to Ipswich. ASTON VILLA won 1-0 at home to DERBY to take their goals tally to 32 while Derby picked up their fifteenth blank of the season and now two in a row. CARDIFF drew 2-2 at home to Fulham and they are now on 48 goals. PRESTON are on 53 goals after they won 2-1 at home to QUEENS PARK RANGERS. Rangers picked up their 43^rd goal of the season. 

LEAGUE ONE

We still have the top two teams here with SHEFFIELD UNITED still on top after they won 2-0 at home to Bolton to take their goals tally to 70. In second place SCUNTHORPE drew 1-1 away to BRISTOL ROVERS. Scunthorpe hit goal number 63 while Rovers are on 60 goals.

In the Play-off zone we have BRADFORD who are still in fifth place after they win 2-1 away to PORT VALE. Bradford are now on a total of 45 goals while Vale are on 40.  SOUTHEND are still in sixth place as they lost 2-1 away to GILLINGHAM. Southend hit goal number 53 while Gillingham are on 54.

Meanwhile WALSALL picked up their twelfth blank of the season as they lost 1-0 away to AFC Wimbledon. CHARLTON picked up their second blank in a week and that gives them twelve this season after they lost 1-0at home to Bury. After a run of three games with out a goal, MK DONS won 2-1 at home to Shrewsbury.MK Dons are now on a total of 53 goals.

OLDHAM drew 0-0 at home against MILLWALL and that was their twenty-first blank score sheet and now two in a row. Millwall picked up their ninth and also two games in a row. It’s 60 to PETERBOROUGH as they win 3-1 at home to Rochdale.

LEAGUE TWO

We also have the top two teams here again this weekend with DONCASTER still on top after they drew 2-2 at home to ACCRINGTON STANLEY. Doncaster are now on 65 goals while Accrington are on 42. In second place is still PLYMOUTH after they drew again 1-1 away to fifth place LUTON. Plymouth are now on 55 goals and still three points behind Doncaster. Luton are on 62 goals.

In the play-off zone we have Luton in fifth place with PORTSMOUTH moving up to fourth as they win 3-0 away to Carlisle and that now gives them a total of 51 goals. COLCHESTER  have moved up to seventh place after they won 2-1 at home to Hartlepool to take their goals tally to  51 goals. LEYTON ORIENT picked up their thirteenth blank of the season as they lost 1-0 at home to Cheltenham. YEOVIL drew 0-0 away to Notts County and that was their thirteenth blank score sheet and now two in a row.

SCOTTISH RESULTS

In the Scottish Premiership, Champions CELTIC march on as they win 2-0 at home to Hamilton to extend their goals run to thirty-two games. They are now on a total of 89 goals. Still 24 points in behind them is ABERDEEN who won 1-0 at home to Ross County. Aberdeen are now on 60 goals with Rangers are still in third place. St JOHNSTONE lost 2-0 at home to KILMARNOCK to pick up their eight blank score sheet while Kilmarnock are now on 29 goals.

In the Championship,  HIBERNIAN are still top as they drew 2-2 at home to Dunfermline and they are now on a total of 53 goals. FALKIRK are still in third place as they drew 2-2 at home to Dumbarton and they are now on 46 goals. In League One, PETERHEAD drew 1-1 at home to East Fife and they are now on a tally of 42 goals.

Our worst teams is  OLDHAM  this weekend as they have picked up a total of  twenty-one blank score sheets out of thirty-eight games played.

Our highest goal scorers in our 34^th Season are  HIBERNIAN after they won 8-1 away to non-league team Bonnyrigg Ross in the Fourth Round of the Scottish WILLIAM HILL CUP in Week Twenty-Five.

STEPHEN STUBBS remains in first place for the fourth weekend running as his combination picks him up a total of nine goals. Two came from midweek with the other seven  from the weekend. The goals at the weekend came from Celtic 2, Chelsea 3 and Newcastle 3.This has given Steve a two goal gap between him and  Grant Phillips who has remained in second place, as he picks up a total of seven goals from his combination of Celtic, Newcastle and Norwich.

At the other end at that dreaded number 136 we have back KATHY SOMERVILLE as her combination picked her up a total of four goals for the week. Kathy is now in her fourteenth weekend at the bottom over the season to date and her combination is Oldham, Tottenham and Yeovil. Emma Sawyer moves up on goal difference as she picks up a total of five goals for the week. Her teams are once again Charlton, Hibernian and Leicester City.

Rangers Give Up!

In the Scottish Premiership, RANGERS looks like that they are starting to give up on this season as they lost again 2-1 away to Inverness CT. Rangers have lost three of their last four league games played and they are only on  a total of 58 goals.

In the English Championship, WOLVES, after a three game dry spell for goals picked up goal number 47 as lost 2-1 at home to Birmingham.

Hibernian In Last Eight

HIBERNIAN have finally made it through 
to the last eight teams in the Quarter-Finals of the WILLIAM HILL CUP by winning 3-1 at home to Hearts. Hibs have taken their goals total to 50 and they will play Ayr United in the quarter-finals on 4^th March at home.

More Midweek Games

In the English Championship DERBY picked up their fourteenth blank of the season as they drew 0-0 at home to Burton while QUEENS PARK RANGERS won 2-1 at home to Wigan. Rangers are now on a total of 42 goals. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY lost 2-1 at home to BRENTFORD to pick up goal number 43 while Brentford are now on a total of 51 goals.

In League One, CHARLTON lost 1-0 at home to Oxford to pick up their eleventh blank of the season. GILLINGHAM are now on 52 goals as they drew 2-2 at home to AFC Wimbledon. MILLWALL drew 0-0 at home to Chesterfield and that was their eighth blank of the season. SOUTHEND have picked up the highest score of the week so far as they win 4-1 away to PETERBOROUGH. Southend take their goals tally to 52 while Borough hit goal number 57.

In League Two COLCHESTER won 1-0 at home to Wycombe and they are now on a total of 49 goals.

Arsenal Shoot Through To The Next Round of FA Cup

ARSENAL have made it through to the next round of the FA CUP after they beat non-league team Sutton United 2-0 away in the fifth round. Arsenal are now on a total of 69 goals and they have now scored in all of their last fifteen games played.

In the English Championship, NEWCASTLE won 2-0 at home to ASTON VILLA to take their goals total to 77 while Villa picked up their twelfth blank score sheet of the season and now they have netted just four goals in their last nine games played.

Week Twenty-Nine

It’s Week Twenty-nine of Season 34 and we had our thirty-second winner of the season to pick up the full £6 this weekend on a winning total of 9 goals. Our winners is our seventh lady to win this season and her name JULIE SOMERVILLE.

Julie is in her very first season with Golden Goals and I would like to thank her for joining in this season. Julie was at number 125 in week two and has been very slowly moving up the table to her highest position to date. There was just a bit of a change in the race for the cash this week as DARYL NICHOLLS remains in the lead now with a total of 95 goals which means he still needs just five goals to win the £80 cash. In second place and just five goals behind Daryl is GRANT PHILLIPS now on a total of 90 goals. Down to third place on 88 goals we have DANIEL GOODSON. In fourth place we have ANDY EYLES up from five while down from three is MANGO both on a total of 87 goals. In fifth place we have CHRIS SETFORD up from six and STALKY (2) down from fourth place both on 86 goals.

WEEKEND RESULTS

After us having a few high scoring weekends we had a fairly low key weekend for goals as the average score dropped from six goals from last weekend to just 3 goals this weekend.  But the reason for such a low average score is that we had eleven of our teams without a game over the weekend with another eight teams that failed to score any goals.

The highest score over the weekend came from the English Championship where CARDIFF CITY won 5-0 at home to Rotherham. Cardiff  have beaten their record twice in a week where they won 4-3 in midweek to get their highest score of the season and now this beats their midweek record with this 5-0 win. Cardiff with their nine goals this week take their goals tally to 46.

Cardiff are in their nineteenth season with Golden Goals and they started with us in our second season in 1984/85 where they were our 35^th voted English team and they finished on a total of 52 goals. It was not till the 2000/01 Season that they picked up their highest end of season score with 106 goals. Last season they finished on a total of 58. Over the season’s they have netted a total of 1342 goals which gives them an average score of 70 goals per season to date. Although they have just one vote this season, they have had a total of twelve blank score sheets in thirty-five games played.

FA CUP Fifth Round

We have had seven of our eight teams that are in this round in action over the weekend with four of them going through to the next round. The highest score here came from TOTTENHAM as they won 3-0 away to Fulham and that now gives them a total of 61 goals and a place in the next round. Also through are MILLWALL with a very late goal against LEICESTER CITY. Millwall take their goals tally to 63 while Leicester picked up their twelfth blank of the season and now just three goals in their last five games. It’s 70 goals for CHELSEA as they won 2-0 away to WOLVES. Wolves picked up their twelfth blank score sheet and now three games in a row with out a goal. MANCHESTER UNITED won 2-1 away to Blackburn to take their goals total to 59. The shock of the weekend for us was that MANCHESTER CITY drew 0-0 away to Huddersfield to pick up their fifth blank of the season and a replay.

Celtic are now on a total of 87 goals and they are still 24 points in front of ABERDEEN who won 2-1 away to KILMARNOCK. Aberdeen are now on 59 goals while Kilmaronck hit goal number 27. RANGERS are still in third place but now six points behind second place Aberdeen as they went down 2-1 away to Dundee after being down 2-0 at half time. Rangers are now on 57 goals. St JOHNSTONE won 2-0 away to Ross County and they are now on 49 goals.

Aberdeen Second Highest Result

In the Scottish Premiership ABERDEEN picked up their highest score of the season as they beat Motherwell 7-2 at home. The hat full of goals takes their goals tally to 57 and they are now twenty-four points behind champions Celtic and three points in front of Rangers in third place. 

Aberdeen have picked up our second highest result of the season following Hibernian’s 8-1 away to non-league team Bonnyrigg Ross in the Fourth Round of the Scottish William Hill Cup. They have just one vote this season.

Week Twenty-Eight

It’s Week Twenty-eight of Season 34 and we had our sixth Rollover this season for £12 and it was won on a total of 13 goals. Our winners for his second win of the season is NICK HORTON.

Nick was one of the very lucky players to have Celtic as part of their combination this weekend as they picked up a total of six goals. Nick last won some cash back in week eighteen and since then he has remained in the top twenty in the winning frame. Nick has still had just three blank score sheets and he has picked up a total of fifteen goals this week. His top team, with 68 other players, is Celtic. His teams are once again

Only twenty-two of you managed to pick up some more goals this week with the highest score that we had was three goals and we had three players that reached that score. They are CLIFF BAMBRIDGE, SANDRA NICHOLLS and EMMA SAWYER. 

There was just a small change in the race for the cash this week as we DARYL NICHOLLS remains in the lead with a total of 92 goals which means he still needs just eight goals to win the £80 cash. Still six goals behind him in second place we still have  DANIEL GOODSON and GRANT PHILLIPS who has moved up from fourth place both are on a total of 86 goals. In third place we have MANGO on a total of 85 goals. We still have STALKY (2) on a total of 84 goals in fourth place. In fifth place is ANDY EYLES on 83 goals while CHRIS SETFORD remains in six place this week on 82 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had another high scoring weekend for goals this week but again it was not reflected in the average score as that came in at 6 goals each for the second weekend running. We had four of our teams without a game over the weekend with another fourteen teams that failed to score any goals.

The highest score over the weekend came from the Scottish WILLIAM HILL CUP fifth round where CELTIC won 6-0 at home to Inverness CT. Celtic are now on a total of 85 goals.

Celtic are just one of four teams that have a 100% appearance in Golden Goals and in our first season they were our second most voted Scottish team and they finished on a total of 116 goals. Their highest score stands at 122 goals scored in the 2000/01 Season and their lowest was in 1989/90 with just 52 goals. Last season they made history with their sixth consecutive season of 100 goals or more as they finished on a total of 108 goals. They have netted a total of 3254 goals over the seasons which gives them an average score of 95 goals per season to date. They have now scored in all of their thirty league and cup games.

PREMIERSHIP

CHELSEA are now ten points in front of Tottenham and it could have been more as they drew 1-1 away to Burnley after going a goal up in six minutes. Chelsea are now on a total of 68 goals. TOTTENHAM are still in second place after they lost 2-0 away to LIVERPOOL. Tottenham picked up their fourth blank of the season and now just one goal in their last three games. Liverpool have moved up to fourth place and they now have a total of 68 goals. ARSENAL won 2-0 at home to Hull to take their goals tally to 67 and they have now scored in all of their last fourteen games. Arsenal move up to third place after their win. Manchester City have moved down to fifth place as they had now game this week.

MANCHESTER UNITED are on 57 goals as they win 2-0 at home to Watford. United are still in sixth place. EVERTON are still in seventh place after they drew 0-0 away to Middlesbrough. That was Everton’s sixth blank of the season.

STOKE picked up their 35^th goal of the season as they win 1-0 at home to Crystal palace. SOUTHAMPTON picked up their biggest win of the season as they win 4-0 away to Sunderland which takes their goals total to 38. LEICESTER CITY lost 2-0 away to Swansea to pick up their  eleventh blank score sheet and now they have scored three goals in their last four games. It’s 38 goals for WEST HAM as they drew 2-2 at home to West Brom.

CHAMPIONSHIP

We have the top two teams here with NEWCASTLE on top after they won 1-0 away to WOLVES. Newcastle are now on a total of 73 goals while Wolves picked up their tenth blank of the season. BRIGHTON are still a point behind Newcastle as they win 4-1 at home to Burton Albion. Brighton take their goals tally to 63. In the play-off zone, we still have two teams with LEEDS UNITED still in fifth place after they lost 2-0 at home to CARDIFF. As Leeds pick up their ninth blank of the season, Cardiff take their goals tally to 37. Sheffield Wednesday have remained in sixth place after their win on Friday.

Meanwhile NORWICH are still just outside the zone after they won 5-1 at home against Nottingham Forest. Norwich are now on a total of 67 goals. DERBY drew 3-3 at home to Bristol City to give them a total of 40 goals while ASTON VILLA lost 1-0 at home to Ipswich to pick up their eleventh blank of the season and now just three goals in their last seven games played. PRESTON are now on a total of 49 goals as they win 4-2 at home to BRENTFORD. Brentford are now on a total of 47 goals. QUEENS PARK RANGERS lost 2-1 at home to Huddersfield but picked up goal number 36.

LEAGUE ONE

We still have the top two teams here with SHEFFIELD UNITED on top after they won 1-0 away to PETERBOROUGH. United are now on a total of 67 goals while Borough picked up their eighth blank score sheet. SCUNTHORPE have remained in second place after they lost again but 1-0 at home to Shrewsbury. Scunthorpe picked up their fourth blank of the season. In the Play-off zone we have BRADFORD who are still in fifth place after they drew 1-1 away to BRISTOL ROVERS. Bradford are now on a total of 40 goals while Rovers are now on 58. MILLWALL have moved into sixth place after they won 1-0 at home to SOUTHEND. Millwall are now on 60 goals while Southend picked up their ninth blank of the season. Meanwhile CHARLTON drew 1-1 away to AFC Wimbledon and they are now on 41 goals. WALSALL are now on 39 goals but lost 4-1 away to Bolton. GILLINGHAM are on 48 goals as they drew 1-1 at home to PORT VALE who are now on 38 goals. OLDHAM are now fifth from bottom as they won their biggest game of the season 3-2 at home to bottom of the table Coventry. Oldham are on 26 goals. MK DONS lost 1-0 away to Oxford to pick up their eleventh blank of the season.

LEAGUE TWO

We also have the top two teams here again this weekend with Doncaster still on top after they drew 0-0 on Friday night. In second place is still PLYMOUTH after they won 3-0 at home to Exeter. Plymouth are now on 51 goals and just three points behind Doncaster. In the play-off zone LUTON are up to fourth place as they win 2-1 at home to Crawley. Luton are now on a total of 57 goals. PORTSMOUTH have moved down to sixth place after they won 2-0 at home to ACCRINGTON STANLEY. Portsmouth after a two game dry spell for goals are now on 45 goals. Accrington picked up their thirteenth blank and now three goals in their last five games. Meanwhile it’s 45 goals for COLCHESTER as they win 2-1 at home to Barnet. YEOVIL are on 37 goals as they drew 1-1 at home to LEYTON ORIENT.  Orient are now on 32 goals.

SCOTTISH RESULTS

In the WILLIAM HILL CUP Fifth Round we had six of our Scottish teams in action and the good news here is that three have made it through to the next round with another two team in replay’s.

The ones that have made it through are Celtic as we already know after their big win but their rivals RANGERS have also gone through. They won 2-1 at home to Morton. Rangers are now on just 56 goals. ABERDEEN are through as they win

1-0 away to Ross County. Aberdeen are now on 50 goals. St JOHNSTONE go out after they lost 1-0 at home to Partick. That was their seventh blank of the season. HIBERNIAN will be in a replay after they drew 0-0 away to Hearts to pick up their fourth blank of the season and so will KILMARNOCK . They drew 1-1 away to Dundee and that was goal number 26 for them.

In the Championship FALKIRK are still in third place as they win 3-0 at home to Dundee United and they are now on 42 goals. In League One, PETERHEAD drew 1-1 at home to Albion and that goal takes their goals total to 38 goals. STENHOUSEMUIR are back at the foot of the table after they lost 2-0 at home to Queens Park. That was their ninth blank of the season.

Our Best team on form is still CELTIC after they have scored in all of their thirty League and Cup games played and netting a total of 85 goals which still gives them an average score of two goals per game.

Our worst teams is  OLDHAM  this weekend as they have picked up a total of nineteen blank score sheets out of thirty-five games played.

Our highest goal scorers in our 34^th Season are  HIBERNIAN after they won 8-1 away to non-league team Bonnyrigg Ross in the Fourth Round of the Scottish WILLIAM HILL CUP in Week Twenty-Five.

STEPHEN STUBBS remains in first place for the second weekend running as his combination picks him up a total of eight goals all coming from the weekend. The goals came from Celtic 6, Chelsea 1 and Newcastle 1. Daniel Goodson has moved back up to number two on goal difference as he picks up nine goals.

At the other end at that dreaded number 136 we still have KATHY SOMERVILLE as her combination picked her up a total of four goals for the week. Kathy is now in her seventh weekend at the bottom and now thirteen weeks over the season. Kathy’s teams are Oldham, Tottenham and Yeovil.
