Celebrations To Golden Goals

It took us sixteen years to beat our record number of players of 111 back in our 1999/2000 Season when last season we had a grand total of 119 joining in.
I thought that this would take some time before we would beat that record number, but how worng was I.
This season we have had a fantastic total of 136 players and now I think anything is possible.
Many thanks for all those taking part and this increase will also see our prize money go up, so where we said that our 34th Champion will pick up a total of £100, this has now been changed to £105.

But back to the games and a ctach up on last Fridays game between Fulham and NEWCASTLE. Newcastle were relegated last season to the Championship where a few of you are banking on them come straight back up. But in their very first Championship game they lost 1-0 away. A bit of a disapointment to start the season with a blank score sheet but we do have a long way to go.

This Season we have forty-five English teams with just nine Scottish teams voted for and this is how it looks.
From the English Premiership we have 12 teams with Manchester City picking up the highest number of votes with 50. We also have 12 Championship teams with Newcastle picking up the second most votes with 42. In League One we have 13 teams while in League Two we have eight.
From the Scottish teams we have a total of 5 from the Premiership with Celtic taking in the most number of votes again this season with 69 with Rangers second with 31. In the Championship we have just two teams and In League One also just two teams.

I have a lot to catch up on after being away for a long weekend but keep as eye on this blog for more up dates to follow. The first News Sheet will be sent out very soon, I hope!

Scottish League Cup First Round

You will already know that the Scottish have already started their season with the first round of the SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP or now known as the BETFRED CUP. These games started playing on 15th July
The Scottish FA has changed the normal format of a knock-out round and came up with groups like they do in the World Cup and Euros.
The teams were split into eight groups of five where the eight group winners and the best four runners-up progressed in the second round where it then goes back to knock-out rounds from there on. The Final will be played on 27th November 2016.
Now we had six of our nine Scottish teams in cup action from this season’s Golden Goals teams.

From Group A: PETERHEAD are through as they win the group with two wins a draw and one lost. Number of goals scored 8.

Group B: ST JOHNSTONE are through as they win three and drew one to go top of this group. They have a total of 11 goals. FALKIRK finished in second place with two wins and two loses but failed to make it through. They are on a total of 5 goals.

Group E: STENHOUSEMUIR go out as they finished bottom of the group as they did not win any of their four games. They start their season with 2 goals.

Group F: RANGERS finished top with four wins and a total of 10 goals.

Group H: KILMARNOCK finished in second place but went out with two wins and one draw and lost. They have a total of 5 goals.

All of these goals will count as midweek goals.

The Second Round games are to be played on 9/10th August 2016.

PHIL REEVE has won the competition twice first in the 1987/88 season with 302 goals in twenty-second place and then again in the 2011/12 Season with 308 goals and that finished him in fifteenth place. Join In The Fun This Season

We are just over half way before we close the books for season 34. The good news is that we have had 100 entries back and this is beginning to look like we might beat last season’s record score of 119.
But we have no interest from the world outside the UK. Golden Goals is a very simple and unique football competition. All you have to do is chose three football teams from any English or Scottish leagues or from both pay an entry fee of £8/ Sit back and watch your three team’s results as it’s their goals that count.
The goals come from League games, League Cup and the the FA Cup. Cash prize money is paid out every week with £100 to our next Champion at the end of the season.
If you would like to know more about the rules and entry form, then you can e-mail me Steve at goldengoals1983@gmail.com  once the deadline of midnight 29th July 2016, you will not be able to take part.

The most popular combination that I have been asked for this season is Celtic Manchester City and Newcastle. PLEASE DO NOT PICK THESE AS THEY HAVE ALREADY BEEN TAKEN.

Now with the team voting we are now up to 37 English teams with still Manchester City out in front with 39 votes. In second place on 29 votes we still have Newcastle and in third place with 29 votes is Manchester United. Fourth is Arsenal with 13 votes.
With our Scottish teams they are starting to be picked up as the last post I gave you we had just four teams, well that has now risen to nine. Celtic led the way by far with 53 votes while Rangers in second place have 18. Hibernian are third with 10 votes.
The good news is that Last season’s champion is also back Richard Williams and a few more including the top leading four which I will tell you in a following post.

So if you would like to join in the fun with the sport you like, then it’s Golden Goals for you.

Half Way?

We had a crazy Monday this week when the New Entry Forms went out for our 34th Season. But over the last three days the entry forms are now slowly trickling in. In fact the number in is a total of 63 with 22 days left to go before deadline.

We have now had 26 English teams in with Manchester City still pulling in the votes with 29 votes. In second place we still have Newcastle with 22 votes with Manchester United still third with 14 votes. Arsenal are in fourth place with 10 votes.
Our Scottish teams have Celtic way out in front with 36 votes with Rangers second with 13.  Hibernian are in third place now on 7 votes. Our fourth team is Kilmarnock with just a single vote.

We had thirteen of our Champions in last season’s competition but after day four we have only six out of our past thirty-three winners.

So with 22 days still to go and over half way of besting that record score of 119, we still need loads more.

If you have been looking at Golden Goals over over the years and wondered what it is all about, then you can contact me at goldengoals1983@gmail.com
to find out about the competition rules and entry form. Once the deadline of midnight 29th July 2016, you will not be able to take part.

The New Season Starts Here

We have had a good first day for the New Entry Forms for the Golden Goals Season 34. We are near par with last season’s first day with 44 players.
So could we be looking at another record breaking season? Out of the 44 entries, four of them are new to the competition and we would like to welcome them to their very first season.

So how is the team selection looking so far?
We have just nineteen English teams with Manchester City once again picking up the most votes with 19. In second place we have relegated Newcastle with 12. Third place is Manchester United with 10. Last season’s premiership champions Leicester City have picked up just 1 vote to date.
We have have just four at the moment with Celtic leading the votes again with 25. Rangers are second with 11 votes while Hibernian are third with 4.
We still have a long way to go yet but we need more players to beat last season’s total of 119 players.

We do have quite a few hits from abroad here on our blog and I thought that I would be a great idea if players from other countries who would like to take part could get their families and friends to form teams i.e Team USA or Team Russia who are our biggest bloggers here.

Well if you would like to know more or to receive your entry form, then you can email me, Steve at goldengoals1983@gmail.com
