Week Thirty-Five

In Week Thirty-Five of the competition, we had one winner winning on a score of 9 goals. They are for the second weekend running, MIKE HARRINGTON our 1997/98 joint Champion this time collecting the normal £5 Weekend Jackpot. Mike’s winning teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Most of us have managed to pick up some midweek goals this week. So the race for the 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot has changed slightly this week.

We have joint leaders this week with RICKY WOOD our 2007/08 Champion with a total of 87 remaining there with JAMES BLYTH moving up from two. Both are now on a total of 88 goals. Ricky has Bolton, Celtic and Leeds United while James has Birmingham City, Celtic and Leeds United. In second place we now have GRANT PHILLIPS moving up from three with CLARA STEPHENS moving up from four. Both are on a total of 83 goals. In third place we now have MARTIN CORBETT and ALFIE DIMMOCK both moving up from five and are now on a total of 82 goals. In fourth place we now have BARRY BURROUGHS up from five on a total of 81 goals. In fifth place all with a total of 80 goals we now have BARBARA BARNES (2),  and STEVE STUBBS (2) both down from four. Coming back in the race we have MIKE HARRINGTON our 1997/98 Champion and STEVE STUBBS (2).

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had just 3 of our teams without a game over the weekend and we had another 14 teams that failed to score any goals. We had a poor weekend from our teams once again, which means that our average score for last weekend fell from four goals to just 3 goals this weekend.

The highest score over the weekend was 6 goals, and they came from League One where BIRMINGHAM CITY won 6-2 at home against BARNSLEY. With their biggest result of the season to date City have taken their goals tally to 79 goals and have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. Barnsley are on 59 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league games.

Birmingham started with Golden Goals back in the 1989/90 season, where they became our 74th voted English team and finished on a total of 70 goals. Their highest end of season score came in the 1994/95 season with 95. Last time out was in the 2020/21 season and finished with 37 goals. This is their 23season with us and over the years they have now netted a total of 1559 goals which gives them an averard ge score of 67 goals per season to date. This season they have picked up a total of four blank score sheets and they have a total of 13 votes.

PREMIER LEAGUE

Top of the table LIVERPOOL, lost their 2nd league game 3-2 away to Fulham and are on a total of 91 goals. They have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. ARSENAL in 2nd place drew 1-1 away to Everton and hit goal number 68. CRYSTAL PALACE won 2-1 at home to Brighton and are on a total of 58 goals and have extended their goal run to 16 league/cup games. IPSWICH TOWN lost 2-1 at home to Wolvers and are on a total of 41 goals. WEST HAM UNITED drew 2-2 at home against AFC  BOURNEMOUTH and are on a total of 38 goals while Bournemouth are on 57 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. ASTON VILLA won 2-1 at home to Nottingham Forest and are on a total of 58 goals and have extended their goal run to 10 league/cup games. CHELSEA drew 0-0 away to Brentford and picked up their 7th blank of the season. After they had failed to score in their previous 2 games, TOTTENHAM won 3-1 at home to bottom of the table SOUTHAMPTON and are now on a total of 71 goals. Southampton are relegated and are on a total of 36 goals. In the Manchester derby, MANCHESTER UNITED drew 0-0 at home to MANCHESTER CITY. United have now failed to score in their last 2 games as they pick up their 12th blank of the season. City picked up their 5th blank of the season.

CHAMPIONSHIP

BURNLEY are top of the table and 1 point clear after they won 2-1 away to Coventry City and are on a total of 61 goals. Burnley have now scored in all of their last 6 league games. SHEFFIELD UNITED are in 2nd place after they lost 1-0 away to OXFORD UNITED. United picked up their 8th blank of the season after a goal run of 10 league/cup games. Oxford picked up goal number 44 and have extended their goal run to 6 league/cup games.

In the Play-offs we now have two of the 4 teams. They are LEEDS UNITED in 3rd place after they drew 1-1 away to LUTON TOWN. Leeds are on a total of 80 goals while Luton hit goal number 37. Middlesbrough are in 5th place after their game on Friday night.

Meanwhile MILLWALL won 2-1 at home against PORTSMOUTH and are on a total of 46 goals. Portsmouth are on 48 and have now scored in all of their last 5 league games. NORWICH CITY lost 2-1 away to Plymouth and are on a total of 66 goals. Norwich have now scored in all of their last 8 league/cup games. After they had failed to score in their last 2 games, PRESTON NE drew 1-1 at home to Stoke City and are on a total of 53 goals. SWANSEA CITY won 1-0 at home to Derby County and are on a total of 44 goals.

LEAGUE ONE

BIRMINGHAM CITY have remained top of the table again this week after their big win. WREXHAM are still in 2nd place after they won 3-0 at home to Burton and are now on a total of 61 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league games.

In the Play-offs we now have two of the 4 teams. Down to 5th place we have CHARLTON after they drew 2-2 at home to Lincoln City. Charlton are on a total of 66 goals. BOLTON WANDERERS have moved up to 6th  place after they won 1-0 at home to Bristol Rovers. Bolton are on a total of 67 goals.

Meanwhile after they had failed to score in their last 2 games, HUDDERSFIELD TOWN won 2-1 at home to Mansfield Town and are on a total of 59 goals. PETERBOROUGH UNITED lost 4-0 at home to Northampton Town and picked up their 12th blank of the season after a goal run of 5 league/cup games. BLACKPOOL lost 2-1 away to Rotherham Utd and are on a total of 72 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games.

LEAGUE TWO

In the Play-offs we have three of the 4 teams with DONCASTER ROVERS being our highest team still in 4th place. They won 2-0 away to Cheltenham. Rovers are now on a total of 67 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league games. AFC WIMBLEDON are still in 5th place after they won 1-0 at home to Harrogate Town. Wimbledon are on a total of 61 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league games. NOTTS COUNTY are still in 6th place after they lost 1-0 away to Colchester Utd. County picked up their 10th blank of the season.

Meanwhile CHESTERFIELD lost 4-0 away to Tranmere Rovers and picked up their 11th blank of the season. BROMLEY won 4-0 at home to Accrington and have now taken their goals tally to 64 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 8 league games. MK DONS lost 3-0 at home to Barrow and picked up their 17th  blank of the season and now 2 games without a goal.

SCOTTISH LEAGUES

In the Premiership Champions CELTIC lost their 4th league game of the season, as St Johnston beat them 1-0 away. After a goal run of 15 league/cup games, Celtic picked up their 3rd blank of the season. RANGERS in 2nd place lost their 7th league game 2-0 at home to Hibernian and picked up their 6th blank of the season. It’s 80 goals for DUNDEE after they won 2-0 at home to St Mirren. KILMARNOCK won 2-0 at home to Motherwell and are on a total of 38 goals. ROSS COUNTY lost 1-0 at home to Aberdeen and picked up their 15th blank of the season and have now failed to score in their last 3 league games. HEARTS lost 1-0 at home to Dundee Utd and picked up their 9th blank of the season and now 2 in a row.

In the Championship Champions FALKIRK won 5-0 at home to Greenock Morton. Falkirk have taken their goals tally to 85 goals.

In League One COVE RANGERS are still in 2nd place after they lost 3-0 at home to Inverness CT. Rangers have picked up their 9th blank of the season and have now failed to score in their last 3 league games. STENHOUSEMUIR are still in 3rd place after they lost 4-1 at home to Alloa. Stenhousemuir are on a total of 55 goals.

In League Two PETERHEAD have remained top after they won 5-0 at home to Bonnyrigg Rose. Peterhead have now taken their goals tally up to 62. EAST FIFE are still in 2nd place after they lost 1-0 away to Forfar. Fife have picked up their 9th blank of the season. CLYDE lost 2-1 away to Edinburgh City and are on a total of 48 goals.

Our BEST three teams this week are

Our WORST three teams are

  SOUTHAMPTON (36) LUTON TOWN (37) LICESTER CITY (38) Total of 111 goals

Our best performing team this weekend are CRYSTAL PALACE after they have now scored in all of their last 16 league/cup games. They have a total of 58 goals, which gives them an average score of 1.5 goals per game.

Our worst performing team is now MK DONS this weekend as they have had a total of 17 blank score sheets from 43 league/cup games. They have a total of 51 goals.

Our highest goal scoring team that we have in our 42Send ason are MANCHESTER CITY after they won 8-0 at home to Salford City in the FA Cup 3rd Round in Week Twenty-Three.

Our leader CLARA STEPHENS celebrates her 4th weekend at the top as her team’s picked up a total of 11 goals this week. Clara has Birmingham City, Celtic and Liverpool. Clara has now moved up to 36th place in our “Champions League”. Clara has now beaten our 1988.89 Champion Alec Short’s total of 280 and Adam Porter’s score of 284 from the 2006/07 Season. Jed Wearden is still in 2nd place and is now 10 goals behind Carla, Jed picked up a total of 7 goals from the week. His teams are Celtic, Liverpool and Peterborough United.

At the other end at 114, we have CHARLIE FARLEY with his 21st  consecutive weekend. Charlie’s team’s pick him a total of 3 goals once again this weekend. His teams are Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir. Charlie this weekend had remained in 41st place in our “Losers League” 

Well we did not have a great weekend for goals and that is shown in the table below.
