Week Forty


In Week Forty of the competition and the full 90 minutes is now up but there is some added on time, or in the old days, injury time. We still have a few games left but most of our teams have now finished their season. Our top scorer this week was our 2010/11 Champion Tony Guy with eleven goals from his first choice of teams. They came from Arsenal 5, Celtic 3 and Sheffield United 3.

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
JAMES BLYTH is still out in front with his total of 110 goals and I am (Steve Reeve), still in second place still with my total of 109 goals. In third place still on a total of 105 goals we have JUNE TIGHE. In joint fourth place both on 100 goals we have JOHN DAVIES and CHRIS SETFORD.  STEPHEN CADWELL is still in fifth place with 99 goals.  

WEEKEND RESULTS
This weekend was our very last full league fixture for our 35th Season of Golden Goals and what a let down it was. We had three of our teams without a game over the weekend with another nineteen teams that failed to score any goals. So with the very last weekend now finished the average score fell down to a just four goals each.
The highest score that we had came from the English Premiership where ARSENAL won 5-0 at home to Burnley. Arsenal in sixth place in the league, have now taken their goals tally up to 80 goals.
Arsenal are our 26th voted English team and they did not start with us until the second season of 1984/85 where they finished on a score of 75 goals. Their highest score came in the 2002/03 Season with 103 goals. Last season they finished on a total of 101 goals. Arsenal are now in their thirty-third season with Golden Goals and over the seasons they have scored a total of 2753 goals which gives them an average score of 83 goals per season to date. This season they have a total of 32 votes.

PREMIERSHIP
Champions MANCHESTER CITY drew 0-0 at home to Huddersfield and that now their fourth blank of the season. MANCHESTER UNITED are still in second place despite their defeat by Brighton in midweek. LIVERPOOL are still in third place after they lost 1-0 away to CHELSEA in fifth place. Liverpool have now had a total of eight blank score sheets and now two in a row. Chelsea picked up goal number 83. After a goal run of thirty games TOTTENHAM picked up their fourth blank score sheet after they lost 1-0 away from bottom of the table WEST BROM. West Brom are now on a total of 41 goals. BOURNEMOUTH are now on 52 goals as they win 1-0 at home to Swansea. LEICESTER CITY lost 2-0 at home to WEST HAM. As Leicester picked up their ninth blank of the season and now three in a row, West Ham have taken their goals tally up to 54. EVERTON drew 1-1 at home to Southampton after going a goal down and they are now on 48 goals. CRYSTAL PALACE went a goal down in the first half but came back to win 2-1 away to Relegated Stoke. Palace are now on a total of 48 goals. After a two game dry spell, NEWCASTLE are now on 41 goals but lost 2-1 away to Watford.

CHAMPIONSHIP
It’s been a very disappointing last couple of games for Champions WOLVES as they have now lost 3-0 away to relegated SUNDERLAND. Wolves have had a total of ten blank score sheets over the season while Sunderland are now on a total of 55 goals. CARDIFF have remained in second place but they are now promoted to the premiership after they drew 0-0 at home against READING. Cardiff have picked up a total of twelve blank score sheets to Readings twenty.
In the play-off zone we still have three teams out of the four. They are  FULHAM in third place still after they lost 3-1 away to BIRMINGHAM. Fulham are now on a total of 81 goals while Birmingham finished on a total of 47. ASTON VILLA still in fourth place lost 1-0 away to Millwall to pick up their twelfth blank of the season. MIDDLESBROUGH are still in fifth place after they drew 2-2 away to IPSWICH. Brough are now on a total of 75 goals while Ipswich finished on a total of 60 goals..
Meanwhile BOLTON won 3-2 at home to Nottingham Forest and that takes their goals total to 45. BRENTFORD finished on a total of 70 goals after they drew 1-1 at home against HULL who finished on a total of 73.SHEFFIELD UNITED finished on 68 goals after they won 3-2 away to Bristol City. LEEDS UNITED won 2-0 at home to QUEENS PARK RANGERS to finish on a total of 72 goals while Rangers picked up a total of thirteen blank score sheets over the season. NORWICH lost their last game 5-1 away to Sheffield Wednesday to finish on a total of 61 goals.BURTON ALBION have been relegated after they lost 2-1 away to Preston but they end the season on a total of 43 goals.

LEAGUE ONE
Champions WIGAN won their last game 1-0 away to DONCASTER. Wigan have finished on a total of 106 goals while Doncaster picked up their twentieth blank for the season and they have failed to score in their last five games. BLACKBURN are promoted after they finished in second place with a 2-1 home win against Oxford. Blackburn end on a total of 92 goals.
In the play-off zone we still have just two of the four teams. They are CHARLTON now in sixth place after they lost 1-0 away to Rochdale. That is Charltons thirteenth blank of the season. SCUNTHORPE move to fifth place after they drew 1-1 at home to BRADFORD. Scunthorpe picked up goal number 69 while Bradford finished on a total of 64 goals. 
Meanwhile PLYMOUTH lost 5-2 away to Gillingham and they end on a total of 60 goals. FLEETWOOD TOWN. Won 2-0 at home to Walsall and they finish on a total of 65 goals. PORTSMOUTH finished on a total of 58 goals after they won 2-0 at home to PETERBOROUGH who finished with a total of nine blank score sheets. SOUTHEND drew 0-0 at home to Bristol Rovers and that was their seventeenth blank of the season. Relegated MK DONS won 1-0 away to Shrewsbury and they end on a total of 54 goals.

LEAGUE TWO
LUTON finished in second place behind Accrington Stanley but they have been promoted as they drew 0-0 away to Notts County. That was their tenth blank of the season.
We have three teams in the play-off zone and they are EXETER in fourth place as they win 1-0 at home to COLCHESTER. Exeter are now on 73 goals while Colchester finished with fifteen blank score sheets. In sixth place we have COVENTRY who drew 0-0 at home to Morecambe picked up their thirteenth blank score sheet. LINCOLN CITY behind them in seventh place drew 1-1 at home to Yeovil.  Lincoln are now on a total of 65 goals.
Meanwhile MANSFIELD drew 1-1 at home to Crawley and they end on a total of 74 goals. FOREST GREEN end with sixteen blank score sheets after they lost 3-0 at home to Grimsby PORT VALE lost 5-0 away to Cambridge to pick up a total of fifteen blank score sheets this season.  

SCOTTISH RESULTS
In the Scottish Premiership,  CELTIC won 3-1 away to Hearts to take their goals tally up to 103 goals. ABERDEEN in second place drew 0-0 at home to Hibernian and that is their fourteenth blank of the season. RANGERS remain in third place after they won 1-0 at home to Kilmarnock. Rangers are now on a total of 92 goals.
In the Championship Play-off Semi-Final 2nd leg games  RAITH ROVERS who lost their first leg game 2-0 against Alloa also lost the second leg 2-1 to go out 4-1 on aggregate and finish on a total of 78 goals.
In League One Play-off Semi-Finals, PETERHEAD are in the final after they won their second leg game 3-0 to Stirling to win
4-0 on aggregate. Peterhead are now on a total of 104 goals and they have scored in all of their last fifteen games. STENHOUSEMUIR will be playing Peterhead in the final as they win their second leg game against Queens Park 2-1 to win 3-2 on aggregate. Stenhousemuir are now on a total of 65 goals.

BURTON ALBION have picked up the most number of  blank score sheets this season with a total of twenty-two out of a total of fifty games played.

Our highest goal scoring team in our 35th Season is PETERHEAD from the Scottish League Two. They picked up our highest score in week eleven as they won 9-0 at home to non-league team Colville Park in the WILLIAM HILL CUP Second Round.  

CHRIS BOLBERY is now celebrating his fourth week at the top as he picks up a total of four goals all coming at the weekend. His combination is Celtic, Manchester City and Wigan. Chris has moved up two more places in our Champions League to sixth place. Chris has beaten Ian Sweeney’s total of 326 goals in the 1985/86 Season and Peter Christopher’s score of 327 in our very first season of 1983/84. Chris’s lead has now been cut down to just two goals this week as Chris Boom returns to second place after he picked up a total of seven goals for the week.

At the other end at number 149 we still have COLIN PINDER for his twenty-eighth weekend. Colin picked up just two goals at the weekend from Crystal palace. Colin has the combination of Colchester, Crystal Palace and Southend. Colin has remained at thirty-one in the Losers League. 

We are now down to a few games left for this season but we will have another week up here next week.
