Week Twenty-Eight

Here we are with Week Twenty-Eight of the competition and we had a total of three winners to share the cash prize money of £5. They won on a score of  9 goals each. Two are first time winners of the season which takes our winners total to 25. Our winners are TONY KING, MARK LAVER and BAILEY MORAN.

It was Bailey that picks up his second win of the season. He last won in Week Twelve on a total of 11 goals. Since then he has picked up another two weekend blank score sheets bringing his total to four. This weekend we see Bailey at his highest to date. His best team is Celtic.

Tony started with us right from the start in our first season of 1983/84. In that season he finished in the winning frame in 3rd place with a total of 295 goals. Last season he finished in 91st place with 237 goals. This season Tony has been as high as 22nd place in Week One. He has picked up a total of six blank score sheets to date. Rangers are his best team.

Mark is in his very first season with Golden Goals and he has not done all that bad either. Mark has picked up a total of five weekend blank score sheets and his best team is Celtic. This weekend is his highest position to date. Our winners teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Over half of us have managed to pick up some midweek goals again this week with another small change in the leading pack this week as we had another 7 players to reach that half-way mark which now gives us a total of 47 players are now over the half way mark for the £40 cash prize money. We had six players that picked up the most amount of goals with five each again this week.

We now have COLIN WEBB out in front now on a total of 68 goals. His teams are Celtic, Liverpool and Manchester United. In second place we have last weeks leader JAMES BLYTH and now (me) STEVE REEVE moving up from four. We both have a total of 66 goals. In third place both up from six we have FIONA CARHTY with BRUCE SELF both with a total of 64 goals. In fourth place we still have CHRIS DICKER but he is now joined with HAYLEY ADKINS down from three. Both are on a total of 63 goals. Down from three we have NICK HORTON in fifth place with a total of 62 goals. In sixth place this week all coming back in to the race, we have SIMON DICKINSON, MARK GREGORY and KEITH THOMSON all on a total of 61 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had all but three of our teams in action and out of the ones that did play 14 failed to score any goals. We had two of our top teams that failed to score in their games and that made it another poor weekend for goals once again this week. The average score for this weekend has remained at just 3 goals. So if you did better than that, well done.

The highest result that we had came from League One where DERBY won 5-0 at home to Morecambe. Derby have now taken their goals tally to 60 goals. Derby first appeared in the 1985/86 Season on where they finished on a total of 104 goals. That is still their highest score to date. In that season they became our 45th voted English team and this is their 19th season with Golden Goals. Last season they finished with a total of 49 goals. Over the years they have netted a total of 1301 goals which gives them an average score of 68 goals per season. This season they have a total of 7 votes and they have picked up a total of eleven blank score sheets. This is the second time that Derby has hit five goals in a game this season. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

Top of the table ARSENAL lost their second league game 1-0 away to EVERTON. Arsenal picked up, their 3rd blank of the season and now two in a row. Everton hit goal number 19. MANCHESTER CITY are still 5 points behind as they lost 1-0 away to TOTTENHAM. City picked up their 3rd blank of the season while Tottenham are on a total of 45 goals. MANCHESTER UNITED have moved up to third place after they won 2-1 at home to CRYSTAL PALACE. United are on a total of 54 games and a goal run of nineteen games. Palace are on a total of 22 goals. ASTON VILLA lost 4-2 at home to LEICESTER CITY and they are on a total of 32 goals and a goal run of ten games. Leicester are now on a total of 40 goals. BRIGHTON won 1-0 at home to BOURNEMOUTH and they are on a total of 51 goals and a goal run of eight games. Bournemouth picked up their 13th blank of the season. Are LIVERPOOL in trouble after they lost 3-0 away to Wolves? Liverpool picked up their 6th blank of the season and they have now scored just two goals in their last five games. NEWCASTLE drew 1-1 at home to WEST HAM and they are on a total of 43 goals. West Ham picked up goal number 23. LEEDS UNITED lost 1-0 away to Nottingham Forest and picked up their 8th blank of the season. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

Top of the table BURNLEY won 3-0 away to NORWICH and that takes their goals tally to 66 goals. Norwich picked up their 8th blank of the season. SHEFFIELD UNITED in second place drew 0-0 away to Rotherham. After a goal run of ten games, United picked up their 6th blank score sheet.

In the Play-Offs MIDDLESBROUGH are in third place after they won 3-0 at home to Blackpool. Brough are on a total of 48 goals. LUTON are in fourth place as they win 1-0 at home to Stoke and they are on a total of 44 goals. WATFORD are in fifth place as they drew 2-2 away to READING. Watford are on 36 goals to Reading total of 37 goals. West Brom are in sixth place.

Meanwhile HUDDERSFIELD drew 1-1 at home to QPR and picked up goal number 28. SUNDERLAND drew 1-1 away to Millwall and are on a total of 45 goals. SWANSEA lost 4-3 at home to Birmingham and they have taken their goals tally to 47. 

LEAGUE ONE

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have moved to the top of the table after they won 1-0 at home to PLYMOUTH. Wednesday are on a total of 61 goals and a goal run of eight games while Plymouth picked up their 5th blank of the season.

In the Play-Offs we still have IPSWICH in third place after they drew 1-1 away to Cambridge Utd. Ipswich picked up goal number 65. Derby are still in fourth place after their win.

Meanwhile after they had failed to score in their last two games, LINCOLN CITY are now on a total of 36 goals after they won 3-0 away to Accrington. BRISTOL ROVERS lost 2-0 at home against MK DONS. Rovers picked up their 7th blank of the season. MK Dons are on a total of 40 goals after they had failed to score in their last two games. CHARLTON won 2-1 away to Exeter and they are on a total of 53 goals. OXFORD UNITED picked up their 12th

blank score sheet as they lost 1-0 at home to Shrewsbury. Bottom of the table FOREST GREEN ROVERS lost 2-0 at home to PETERBOROUGH and that is their 12th blank score sheet. Borough are on a total of 51 goals. 

LEAGUE TWO

The highest teams that we have in this league are all in the Play-Offs. They are SALFORD CITY still in fifth place after they won 2-1 at home against Rochdale. Salford are on a total of 41 goals and have now scored in all of their last eleven games. MANSFIELD TOWN have moved up to sixth place after they drew 1-1 away to BRADFORD CITY.  Mansfield are now on a total of 44 goals and a goal run of seven games. Bradford hit goal number 34 after they failed to score inn their last two games. STOCKPORT COUNTY are now in seventh place after they won 3-2 at home to Tranmere. Stockport have taken their goals tally to 50.

Meanwhile GILLINGHAM are still improving after they won their fifth league game 1-0 at home to CRAWLEY TOWN. Gillingham are on a total of 24 goals. Crawley picked up their 9th blank of the season. AFC WIMBELDON lost 1-0 away to Leyton Orient and that is their 12th blank of the season and now just one goal in their last three games. SUTTON UNITED drew 0-0 at home to Sevenage and they have now had a total of twelve blank score sheets. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUE RESULTS

In the Premiership, Champions CELTIC won 4-1 away to St Johnston and the goals have now taken them up to 93. They have now scored in all of their last twenty-one games. RANGERS are still in second place after they won 2-1 at home to Ross County. Rangers are on a total of 65 goals and a goal run of twenty-two games now. HEARTS in third place won 3-1 at home to Dundee Utd. After they had failed to score in their last two games, Hearts are now on a total of 48 goals. ABERDEEN won 3-1 at home against Motherwell and they have taken their goals tally to 60. 

In League One ALLOA won 1-0 at home to Peterhead and they are on a total of 49 goals. KELTY HEARTS lost 2-1 at home to Falkirk and have taken their goals tally to 30. 

In League Two STENHOUSEMUIR drew 1-1 at home to Dumbarton and they are on a total of 49 goals and they have now scored in all of their last twenty-two games. BONNYRIGG ROSE lost 2-1 at home to Anna and after they failed to score in their previous three games, are now on a total of 31 goals.

Our best performing team are now RANGERS as they have now scored in all of their last 22 league/cup games played. They have a total of 65 goals. That still gives them an average score of 2.3 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is GILLINGHAM as they have picked up a toal of 19 blank score sheets out of 36 League/Cup games played. 

Our highest goal scorers in our 40th Season are CELTIC who won 9-0 away to Dundee Utd in the league and LIVERPOOL who won 9-0 at home to Bournemouth in the league both from Week Five.

Our 2010/11 Champion TONY GUY with selection number two, has remained at the top for his 15th consecutive weekend. Tony picked up a total of 8 goals this week from Arsenal, Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday and is now 3 goals in front. Mark Gregory remains in second place this weekend. Mark picked up a total of 7 goals from his combination of Celtic, Manchester City and Norwich.  

At the other end at 108 we still have SANDRA NICHOLLS as she picked up 7 goals. Sandra’s teams are Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Leicester City. Sandra has now been here for a total of 15 weeks throughout the season. 

Once again this week, we have a very slight change in our top ten.
