Slowly Does it

We had another five entry forms back yesterday which means we now stand at a total of 48.
The blog is still picking up loads of hits as we are now well over 300. We still have no takers from the world outside and still no new members to date.
The voting of the teams has changed today.  Celtic still remain top with 25 votes now out of 48. Rangers are catching up in second place with 20 votes, Chelsea move into third place with 17 votes while Arsenal and Man UTD are in joint fourth place with 16 votes each and they are still followed by Man City with still 11 votes.
We have picked up Reading over the last few days. We did not have them last season but they have been with the competition for 22 seasons. Their best season with Golden Goals was back in our 2005/06 where they finished with 111 goals. Last time out was in 2011/12 with just 70 goals.
Portsmouth have only been with us for fifteen season and the last time that we had them was back in our 2008/09 Season with 40 goals. The highest that they have finished on is 101 back in our 2002/03 Season.
It will be their third time out with Golden Goals this season when Queen of the South take to our pages once more. They first appeared in our 1984/85 Season and finished with 56 goals. The next time that we see them was back in our 2010/11 Season with 64 goals.

It's been a long weekend

It’s been a week since the new entry forms went out and we stand at a total of 43.

We picked up just two more entries on Friday and nothing in the post on Saturday made it a bit of a dull weekend even though the sun was shining. Still we still have four weeks to deadline and I hope that we will beat our biggest entry of 111.
Although the blog has now had over 300 hits! We still have no takers from the world outside and still no new members to date. So come on, don’t be shy and represent your country in this unique football competition.
So once again, no real big change in the voting of the teams today.  Celtic still remain top with 23 votes out of 43. Rangers move in to second place with 17 votes, while in joint third place on 16 votes we now have Chelsea and Man UTD. In fourth place are Arsenal with 14 votes followed by Man City with still 11 votes. These are the only teams in double figures at the moment.

Golden Goals Friday

It has been a bit of a roller coaster ride in our first week since the new entry forms went out.
After a great start on Monday, it went down on Tuesday, came back up on Wednesday and then yesterday it went back down to just two more entries. We now have a total of 41.
Still we do have another four weeks to go before deadline and I know that there are a few of you that are away on holiday. Still no takers from the world outside and no new members as of yet!
No real big change then in the voting of the teams today.  Celtic remained top with 23 votes out of 41. In joint second place on 16 votes are Chelsea and Man UTD. Just behind them on 15 we have Rangers. In fourth place is Arsenal with 13 votes and Man City are now on 11 votes.

Golden Goals Thursday

Some very good news today as we had another ten people that have signed up again to play in this season’s competition. We now stand at a total of 39.
The most voted team is once again Celtic who have now picked up a total of 23 votes out of 39. Man UTD are still second but with 16 votes while Chelsea are in third place with 15. In joint fourth place with 13 votes each are Arsenal and Rangers. In fifth place it’s Man City with 10 votes.
Last Seasons champion, Alice Stubbs is back with us again to serve her second season with us. Alice wanted to have that winning combination of Chelsea, Man UTD and Rangers, but that selection has already been taken so Alice had to choose another winning combination. Alice has kept Chelsea but has now picked up Man City and Man UTD.

What's it all about then?

Well for those of you who have not played or even heard of Golden Goals, then let me give you some idea of what’s it all about.
The competition started in August 1983 for the 1983/84 Season. We had a total of 23 people that started in our very first season and over the years it has very slowly grown.
I thought that it was about time that the rest of the world should here about Golden Goals and give them the opportunity to take part in this unique competition.
The rules are very simple and all you have to do is to choose three football teams out of any English or Scottish divisions, except that you are not allowed to have Celtic and Rangers as part of the same combination.
These three teams that you have picked and are unique to you as you will be the only person to have that combination in the competition. The idea is that these teams will score a lot of goals throughout the season and all the goals count from League and the two domestic cup competitions.
You will be e-mailed a News Sheet every week which will not only give you where you are in the competition but what your teams are also doing. The more goals they score the higher up the table you will travel.
For a one off payment to the competition, there is prize money throughout the season. The amount of each prize money sections will depend on the number of people taking part.
Now if this has got you interested in what Golden Goals is all about, then please drop me a line at goldengoals1983@gmail.com where I will then send you on the entry form and what prize money you could win. It would be nice to see some people that have looked at this blog and thought what the hell! Be the very first person in your country to play in this unique football competition.
Could you be our 31st Champion?

Golden Goals Wednesday

Well after a crazy Monday when the form first went out, yesterday was the complete opposite as we only had three more to add to our total, which now gives us a total of 29 for the season.

But saying that the voting has changed just a bit as Celtic still lead with 19 votes with Man UTD now is second place with 13 votes. Chelsea moved down to third place with still 11 votes while Arsenal with 10 votes are in fourth place. Rangers come in at five with 8 votes. We now have thirteen teams with a single vote each. This will all change by the end of today.
