Week Twelve

In Week twelve of the competition we had three winners to share the cash on a total of 13 goals. Our winners picked up their very first win of the season and that brings our winners total to 20. Our winners are KAREN BARNES, BOB BURGIN (Stalky 1) and GEOFF CARTHY.
Karen is in her second season with us and last season she was known as Ms Somerville (So a big congratulations from Golden Goals). Karen then finished in 75th place on a total of 283 goals. This season with her biggest score, Karen has moved up to 100th place, but her highest position is 84th in week one. Her best team to date is Celtic and she has had just one blank score sheet. Bob with his first combination, has been with the competition for a long while now. Last season his first combo finished in 42nd place on 303 goals. His combinations picked him up a total of three wins collecting over £5 in cash. This season Bob has been as high as 86th place in week two and his best team is also Celtic but he has had two blank score sheets to date. Geoff is another long serving player and last season he finished in 96th place on 266 goals. This season Geoff has had two blank score sheets and his highest position is 81st in week two. With his highest score of the season, Celtic is his best team to date. Our winners teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
Only sixty-two of us managed to pick up some midweek goals with five players picking up the four goals from Luton. So the race for the cash has remained much the same as last weeks leaders once again.
In first place we still have RICKY WOOD with 36 goals. In joint second place both on 35 goals is still PHIL FRANCKSEN and CHRIS SETFORD. In third place we have TONY GUY (2) and JULIE SOMERVILLE and up from four SIMON DICKINSON all on 34 goals. In fourth  place all on 33 goals we have MATT DORAN, TONY KING, GRAHAM PHILLIPS, DAVE WOOD and back in then race STEPHEN LEADER.  

WEEKEND RESULTS
This weekend the average score shot up from four goals last weekend to the season’s highest of 8 goals.  All of us picked up some goals and we had some really highest scores once again this weekend. We had two teams with no game and another one who had their game abandoned. Eighteen failed to score any goals.
The highest score that we had over the weekend came from the English Premiership where ARSENAL picked up their highest score of the season with a 5-2 away win over EVERTON. Arsenal have now moved up to fifth place with a total of 18 goals.
Arsenal became our 26th English voted team in our competition and they started with us in our second season of 1984/85. In that season they finished on a total of 75 goals. Their highest score came in the 2002/03 Season with 103 goals. Last season they finished on a total of 101. Arsenal are in their thirty-third season with Golden Goals and over the years they have now netted a total of 2691 goals which gives them an average score of 81 goals per season to date. They have a total of 32 votes this season. Everton are now third from bottom and they are now on a total of 10 goals.

PREMIERSHIP
MANCHESTER CITY are now five points clear at the top of the premiership after they won 3-0 at home to Burnley. City have now scored in all of their ten league/cup games and they have a total of 34 goals. MANCHESTER UNITED are in second place on goal difference but lost 2-1 away to Huddersfield. United are now on 26 goals. TOTTENHAM are in third place on goal difference with United. Tottenham picked up another four goals in their 4-1 home win against LIVERPOOL. Liverpool picked up goal number fourteen. CHELSEA are in fourth place after they won 4-2 at home to Watford. Chelsea are no won a total of 22 goals. NEWCASTLE scored a late goal to beat CRYSTAL PALACE 1-0 at home. Newcastle are now on 12 goals while Palace still rock bottom, picked up their eighth blank of the season. After a two blank score sheets, BOURNEMOUTH are now on 9 goals as they win 2-1 away to Stoke. It’s 18 goals for LEICESTER CITY as they win 2-1 away to Swansea.

CHAMPIONSHIP
WOLVES are still top of the table as they win 3-2 at home to Preston. Wolves are now on a total of 28 goals. CARDIFF are still in second place as they won 1-0 away to MIDDLESBROUGH. After two blank score sheets Cardiff picked up goal number 21. Brough picked up their fifth blank of the season. SHEFFIELD UNITED are in third place after they won 2-1 at home to READING. United are on 22 goals while Reading picked up goal number sixteen. LEEDS UNITED have moved up to fourth place after they won 3-0 away to Bristol City. Leeds after a two game blank score sheets, are now on 32 goals. ASTON VILLA are in fifth place and on 25 goals as they win 2-1 at home to FULHAM who are now on 19 goals. Fulham have now scored in all of their last nine games. NORWICH are in sixth place as they win 1-0 away to IPSWICH. Norwich are now on 23 goals while Ipswich picked up their third blank and now two in a row. HULL picked up goal number 24 as they win 1-0 away to Barnsley. BOLTON drew 0-0 at home to QUEENS PARK RANGERS and are on 12 goals to Rangers 18. BRENTFORD are on 25 goals as they drew 3-3 at home to SUNDERLAND who are now on 19 goals. BIRMINGHAM lost 2-0 away to Millwall and that was their sixth blank of the season. BURTON ALBION picked up their ninth blank and now five games without a goal as they lost 2-0 away to Nottingham Forest.

LEAGUE ONE
WIGAN have moved back down to second place even though they won 3-1 away to Blackpool. Wigan have now scored in all of their last ten games and they are now on 32 goals. BRADFORD are still in third place after they lost 1-0 at home to CHARLTON. As Bradford picked up their fourth blank of the season, Charlton are now on a total of 25 goals and in fourth place. PLYMOUTH are now on 11 goals as they win 1-0 away to AFC Wimbledon. BLACKBURN won 3-0 at home to PORTSMOUTH to take their goals tally to 22 while Portsmouth picked up their fourth blank of the season. DONCASTER picked up their ninth blank score sheet after they lost 3-0 at home to Walsall. MK DONS have picked up their biggest score of the season after they drew 4-4 at home to Oldham. It’s 18 goals for SCUNTHORPE as they win 2-1 at home to PETERBOROUGH. Borough are now on 25 goals. FLEETWOOD lost 1-0 away to top of the table Shrewsbury and that is their first blank of the season after a goal run of fourteen games. SOUTHEND are on 19 goals as they win 1-0 at home to Bury.

LEAGUE TWO
LUTON are back on top after they drew 0-0 away to Crawley Town. Luton have picked up their sixth blank of the season. EXETER have moved down to fourth place after they lost 1-0 at home to PORT VALE. Exeter have now had four blank score sheets while Port Vale are now on 17 goals. LINCOLN CITY lost 1-0 away to Cheltenham and that is their sixth blank score sheet. COVENTRY drew 0-0 at home to COLCHESTER to pick up their seventh blank and now four in a row. Colchester picked their fourth. MANSFIELD are now on 21 goals as they drew 1-1 away to Newport Co. FOREST GREEN won 2-1 away to Stevenage and have taken their goals tally to 14.

SCOTTISH RESULTS
In the BETFRED CUP Semi-finals we had two of the four teams left in the competition.  Only one of them has made it through to the final and they are CELTIC. They won 4-2 to Hibernian and that takes their goals total to 34 goals. Celtic have now scored in all of their twelve league/cup games. RANGERS was our other team in action and they lost 2-0 to Motherwell to pick up their third blank score sheet of the season.
In the Championship, FALKIRK drew 0-0 at home to St Mirren to pick up their fourth blank of the season and now just one goal in their last five games. In League Two PETERHEAD now in third place, won 4-1 away to Clyde. Peterhead with thirteen goals in two games are now on 36. ELGIN CITY won 2-0 at home to STENHOUSEMUIR and they are now on 21 goals while Stenhousemuir picked up their second blank of the season after a goal run of nine games.

Our Best team is RAITH ROVERS who have now scored in all of their last twelve League and Cup games with 33 goals.

BURTON ALBION have now picked up nine blank score sheets after sixteen games played and they have failed to score in their last five games.

Our highest goal scoring team in our 35th Season is PETERHEAD from the Scottish League Two. They picked up our highest score in week eleven as they won 9-0 at home to non-league team Colville Park in the WILLIAM HILL CUP Second Round. 

CHRIS BOOM is celebrating his second week at the top as his combination picked him up a total of 11 goals all coming from the weekend. He has Celtic, Manchester City and Peterhead. Our 2013/14 Champion Paul Davey has remained in second place and is still two goals behind Chris as his combination  picked him up a total 11 goals for the week. Paul has the combination of Celtic, Luton and Manchester City.
At the other end at 149 we still have JOHN DOVE spending his seventh consecutive weekend there as his teams picked him up his highest score of the season with a total of 8 goals. John has Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool.
