One More Week To Go

We have now finished all of our league games this weekend and another season nearly finished.

Saturday RANGERS played their second leg Premiership final play-off game against Hibernian and lost that one 1-0 but the good news is that although Rangers picked up their 8th blank score sheet of the season, they win the round 2-1 on aggregate. They will play Motherwell in another two leg final game this week. Staying in Scotland, Champions CELTIC picked up the biggest score for us on the day when they beat Inverness 5-0 at home. Celtic finished on a grand total of 110 goals.

In the English Premiership last league games of the season, Champions CHELSEA won 3-1 at home to Sunderland and they finished on a total of 89 goals. MANCHESTER CITY finished in second place as they win 2-0 at home to Southampton and finished on a total of 92 goals which is a far cry from last season’s total of 137. ARSENAL finished third as they win 4-1 at home to West Brom. Arsenal are now on a total of 83 goals and they still have the FA Cup final to play this weekend. In fourth place is MANCHESTER UNITED as they drew 0-0 away to Hull. That was their 10th blank score sheet of the season and they have scored just three goals in their last six league games. They end on just 71 goals which is not their worst score with Golden Goals. We had to go back to 1989/90 to see one of their lowest scores of just 64 goals. TOTTENHAM finished on 75 goals as they beat EVERTON 1-0 away. Everton picked up their 13th blank of the season. LIVERPOOL lost 6-1 away to Stoke to pick up goal number 68. CRYSTAL PALACE win their last game of the season with a 1-0 win at home to Swansea. Palace finished on 60 goals. QUEENS PARK RANGERS lost 5-1 away to Leicester City and finished on a total of 42 goals.

In the League One Play-off Final, PRESTON are back into the Championship as they beat Swindon 4-0. Preston are now become our fifth team to score 100 goals as they finish on a grand total of 101 goals which is the best they have ever done with us.

Today NORWICH are promoted back in to the Premiership as they beat Middlesbrough 2-0 at Wembley in the Championship Final Play-off. Norwich have ended on a total of 97 goals which becomes their second best end of season goals total with Golden Goals. Their best was back in our 2009/10 Season with 102 goals.

So we are now left with just two of our teams left in action. ARSENAL (with 22 votes) take on Aston Villa in the FA Cup Final and from Scotland, RANGERS (with 40 votes) take on Motherwell in that Premiership Final Play-off.

In the Scottish Premiership play-off final, RANGERS takes the first leg as they beat Hibernian 2-0 at home. Rangers are now on a total of 86 goals and the second leg is to be played on Saturday.

Chelsea Feeling Blue

CHELSEA lost their third league game of the season to West Brom 3-0 away.  Chelsea have so far won 25 of their 37 league games to date but this is their third blank score sheet with Golden Goals.
Although they have scored more goals than last season’s 79, they are a long way from their biggest end of season total of 128 goals back in our 2009/10 Season.

THE BEST THREE TEAMS ARE…

MK DONS (115) CELTIC (105) BRISTOL CITY (103) Total of 323 goals.

THE WORST THREE TEAMS ARE…

WIGAN (40) QPR (41) ROTHERHAM (48) Total of 129 goals.

WIGAN have picked up the most number of blank score sheets this season with a total of 22 after playing a total of 48 games this season and they have now finished as our worst team of the season this weekend.

HEARTS have picked up the highest score for this season with a 10-0 home win against Cowdenbeath in the league.

Manchester City had that record breaking end of season score of 137 goals last season and in week forty-one last season, their season was over with that fantastic total of 137 goals for the season after forty-nine games played. They had four blank score sheet’s and their highest score was seven goals against Norwich in the league.
This season they picked up the four goals at the weekend. City are now on a total of 90 goals this weekend and they have had a total of five blank score sheet after forty games played. They are still 47 goals behind last seasons record run.

JOHN NICHOLLS  has remained at that number 106 position after he picked up two goals at the weekend from Everton. John’s combination is Bristol City, Everton and Wigan. With a total of 194 goals this weekend and with just Everton still left in action, John is still has our fifth best loser’s score to date.

TOBY BICKNELL has remained in the lead this weekend and he has now been there for twelve weekends and now eleven straight weeks at number one. Toby failed to pick up any goals from Celtic in midweek and the only other team that Toby has is Preston and they are still yet to play their final game. He has had four blank score sheets to date and he is now seven goals clear of  James Somerville who remains in second place this weekend. TOBY is still in 22nd place this weekend. His combination is Celtic, Derby and Preston.

We still have just fourteen of our teams left in action over the next week of football. This is the last News Sheet from Golden Goals until the final sheet which will be out after the FA Cup Final against ARSENAL and Aston Villa which will be played on Saturday May 30th. The very best of luck to you all.

Celtic No Goals

Last Friday night, Scottish Champions CELTIC drew their fifth league game out of 39 played this season and picked up their fifth blank score sheet of the season when they drew 0-0 away to St Johnstone. Celtic have a total of 41 votes this season and that result was a bit of a blow to all of them.

At the moment Celtic are our third best team and remain on a total of 105 goals. Last season they finished on 110 goals.

Stevenage Remain in Second

STEVENAGE will stay in League two next season as they lost the 2nd leg of the Play-offs 3-1 against Southend in extra time last night. Southend win 4-2 on aggregate after they drew 1-1 in their first game.
Stevenage have had a very good season in the professional League and although they only received one vote in Golden Goals this season, they have finished on a grand total of 65 goals and finished in 6th place in the league. Perhaps a team to look out for next season?
