Week Twenty-Four

This weekends average score moved up one to just 4 goals even though we had a couple of  teams that scored a hat full of goals. We had five teams that had no game and another eight teams that failed to score any.
The highest score that we had was five goals and we had two teams to hit that number. Premiership leaders CHELSEA won 5-0 away to Swansea and they are now on a total of 61 goals and are now our second best team this weekend. Chelsea have scored in all of their last eleven games. The other team to hit five was WATFORD. They beat CHARLTON 5-0 at home to take their goals tally to 51. Charlton picked up their 10th blank score sheet and now two games in a row. Charlton have scored just two goals in their last six games.

PREMIERSHIP
CHELSEA are now five points clear of MANCHESTER CITY after they lost 2-0 at home to ARSENAL. City picked up their 3rd blank of the season after a goal run of thirteen consecutive games. Arsenal are now on 42 goals and are now fifth in the league. MANCHESTER UNITED are still fourth even after they won 2-0 away to QPR. Its 46 goals for TOTTENHAM as they win again 2-1 away to Sunderland.

CHAMPIONSHIP
DERBY have moved down to third place as they lost 2-1 at home to NOTTINGHAM FOREST. The single goal takes Derby's goals total to 60. Forest are now on 39 goals after a two game dry spell for goals. FULHAM have picked up some more goals at the weekend as they win 2-1 at home to READING. Fulham are now on 45 goals while Reading picked up goal number 36. LEEDS picked up their 30th goal of the season as they drew 1-1 at home to Birmingham. NORWICH won 3-2 at home to CARDIFF and are now on 52 goals while Cardiff are on 43. BRISTOL CITY have fallen to second place on goal average after they won 2-0 away to SCUNTHORPE. City are now on 55 goals while Scunthorpe picked up their 7th blank and have now failed to score in their last two games this week. We have two teams in the play-off zone this week. MK DONS are third as they win 1-0 at home to SHEFFIELD UNITED. The Dons are on 65 goals while United picked up their 5th blank of the season.  PRESTON are in fourth place as they drew with Orient on Friday night. It’s 36 goals for DONCASTER as they win 1-0 at home to BARNSLEY. Barnsley picked up their 8th blank of  the season and have now scored two goals in their last four games. COVENTRY lost 3-1away to Gillingham to get goal number 29 while PETERBOROUGH picked up goal number 33 after a two game dry spell as they lost 2-1 away to Port vale.

LEAGUE TWO
LUTON are out best team here in fourth place in the play-off zone and they are now on 37 goals as they win 1-0 away to Plymouth. STEVENAGE are also there as they win 2-0 away to York. Stevenage are now on 38 goals. BURY drew 1-1 at home against Wycombe and that was their 42nd goal of the season. PORTSMOUTH are on 30 goals as they drew 1-1 at home to Burton.

SCOTTISH LEAGUES
In Scotland only three of our five teams were in action again over the weekend. CELTIC won 2-0 away to Hamilton and Celtic are now on a goals total of 51. DUNFERMLINE drew 2-2 at home against Airdrie which now gives them a total of 43 goals while STENHOUSEMUIR lost 1-0 away to Forfar. That was their 8th blank score sheet of the season.

THE BEST THREE TEAMS ARE…

MK DONS (65) CHELSEA (61) DERBY (60) Total of 186 goals.

THE WORST THREE TEAMS ARE…

QPR (23) ROTHERHAM (23) WIGAN (27) Total of 73 goals.

QPR are still our worst team this weekend as they failed to score any goals at the weekend against Manchester United. Rangers have played a total of 24 games and they have picked up a total of ten blank score sheets.

ROTHERHAM have picked up the most number of  blank score sheets in our 32nd season.  After a total of 29 games played, Rotherham have picked up twenty-three goals and  had a total of 13 blank score sheets to date.

We have had two teams that have picked up the highest score this season. First MANCHESTER CITY won their Capital One Cup third round tie against Sheffield Wednesday 7-0 at home.  MK DONS won 7-0 at home to Oldham in the league.

Manchester City had a record breaking end of season score of 137 goals from last season and I think that that score will not be beaten this season. In Week twenty-four last season, City scored five goals in midweek and another four goals at the weekend. Their goals tally has now risen to 85 goals after twenty-eight games played. They have had two blank score sheet’s and their highest score was seven goals against Norwich in the league.
This season they had no midweek game again and they failed to score at the weekend. So City are still on a total of 54 goals this weekend. They have now had three blank score sheet after twenty-five games played. They are now 31 goals behind last seasons record run. They are home to Middlesbrough in the Fourth Round of the FA CUP at the Weekend.

As you can see that there has been a bit of a change in the running for Champion and in red is our two winners for the weekend.
