Week Two

Here we are with Week Two of the competition and this weekend we had a total of three winners to share the £6 weekend cash prize money.  All three won on a score of 8 goals each and one of them is our first lady winner to win this season and it is also her very first season with Golden Goals. That lady is LUCY POULTON and a very big welcome to the competition. Lucy did not pick up any goals in our first week so these are all she has to date. Our other two winners are well know to the rest of us and they are STALKY 2 (Bob Burgin) and KEITH THOMSON. Bob has also picked up his first lot of goals this weekend with his second combination and he has had two combination with us for some while now. Last season his combinations came in at 101 (1) with 226 goals and 98 (2) with 229. Keith is doing very well with his teams this week after picking up eight goals in midweek as well. Keith finished in 82nd place on 241 goals last season. All three winners then pick up £2 each and here are their teams

L. Poulton – ARSENAL 3, MAN CITY 2, MAN UTD 3

At last we can have our first look at who is in the lead for our 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot worth £80 this season. The prize money will go to the first person to reach 100 goals from their three teams. ROB FREEMAN picked up the most number of midweek goals this week with 14 goals. They came from Briughton’s two games total of 7 goals, Celtic 5 and Portsmouth 2. So we have two joint leaders this week with JOHN FILTNESS and JAMIE WOOD both are on 22 goals. In Second place we have JACQUI WILLIAMS with 21 while in third place on 20 is RICKY WOOD. Then we have all on 19 goals BARRY BURROUGHS, CHRIS SETFORD, STEPTOE & SON and ZIGGY.

WEEKEND RESULTS
So we had our very first full weekend fixture but it was not as good as our first weekend score’s. We had just four teams with no game over the weekend with another fourteen teams that failed to score any goals. So our weekend average score was just 4 goals. So if your teams picked up more than that, then you have done well. The Highest score over the weekend came from the English Premiership where LIVERPOOL beat ARSENAL 4-3 in their first game of the new season. Liverpool are just one of four of our teams that have a 100% record in that they have been with us in every season. (The other teams are Celtic, Chelsea and Manchester United) They were our highest voted team back in our first season of 1984/84 and they finished on a total of 103 goals. Two seasons later in 1985/86 they picked up their highest score of 127 goals. Last season they finished on 79. Over the 34 years they have now netted a total of 2742 goals which gives them an average score of 80 goals per season. they have 11 votes this season compared to just four last season.

PREMIERSHIP
So the Premiership played their first league game and it was not a great start from our teams. CHELSEA and WEST HAM had no game this weekend so MANCHESTER UNITED are top of the Prem which we have not seen for a few seasons now as they beat BOURNEMOUTH 3-1 away.
