Week Twenty-Six

It’s Week Twenty-six of Season 34 and we had two winners  to share the cash this weekend on a score of 13 goals each. Our winners this weekend are TONY GUY our 2010/11 Champion who picks his first win of the season which now takes our winners total to thirty-one, while our other winner JOHN WOOD  becomes the first player to pick up their third win of the season.
Tony started with Golden Goals back in the 2010/11 Season on where he became our 28th Champion in his first season. Tony won the competition on a total of 307 goals and won £60 in cash. Tony has two combinations with us this season and he has done this for quite a while now. Last season Tony finished in 42nd place on 257 goals while his second combination finished in 93rd place on 232 goals. This season he has had three blank score sheets and this is the highest that he has been to date.
John last won in week twenty-two where he shared the cash again. With his personnel best score of the season, john has taken his winnings to over £14 in cash. He has still only had three blank score sheets and he has moved back into seventh place this weekend. Our winners combinations are
Tony - ARSENAL 5, CELTIC 4, MANCHESTER UNITED 4
John - ARSENAL 5, CELTIC 4, CHELSEA 4

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
Most of us managed to pick up some more goals this week with the highest score that we had was four goals and they went to PHIL COLLINS.  Phil has Aberdeen, Manchester City and Manchester United. The four goals takes his midweek total to 53. There was hardly any change in the race for the cash this week as we still have DARYL NICHOLLS remaining in the lead now with a total of 88 goals. Six goals behind him in second place we still have  DANIEL GOODSON and MANGO both now on a total of 82 goals.  In third place both on 81 goals we still have GRANT PHILLIPS and STALKY (2). Still in fourth place on 79 goals we still have CHRIS SETFORD. In fifth place we still have DAVID SMITHERS on a total of 77 goals while joining him back in the race is BRADLEY HAYES.
The good news this weekend is that we now have a total of ninety-four players that are now over the 50 goals mark.

WEEKEND RESULTS
We had another fantastic weekend for goals this weekend and we once again had a few high scores from a couple of them. Although we had a total of twelve teams without a game this weekend, we also had nine teams that failed to score any goals. So the good news this weekend is that the average score for the second weekend running, remained at 7 goals each. Out of the thirty-four English teams that we had in action over the weekend, sixteen of them were involved in the FA CUP Fourth Round and this is where the highest scores came from.
ARSENAL picked up the highest score and a place in the next round as they won 5-0 away to SOUTHAMPTON. This is the second time that Arsenal have netted five goals in a game this season and they are now on a total of 63 goals. Southampton picked up their ninth blank of the season.
Arsenal are in their thirty-second season and they started with us in our second season where they finished on a total of 75 goals. They are our 26th voted English team then and their highest score came in 2002/03 when they finished on a total of 103 goals. Last season they finished on just 77 goals which was their worst score in sixteen seasons. Arsenal have netted a total of 2635 goals over the years and that gives them an average score of 82 goals per season. They have a total of 16 votes this season.

FA CUP Fourth Round
We had a total of sixteen of our teams in action in this round but only seven have made it through to the next round so far. We had a total of  seven teams that went out with another two teams involved in a replay. They are Derby and Leicester City who drew on Friday night. We already know about Arsenal getting through and that Southampton are out, but who are the other teams that have made it to round five. Well also through are CHELSEA as they win 4-0 at home to BRENTFORD and that takes their goals tally to 63 while Brentford picked up their tenth blank of the season. MANCHESTER CITY are in the next round as they win 3-0 away to Crystal Palace and City are now on a total of 53 goals. MANCHESTER UNITED won 4-0 at home to Wigan and they take their goals tally to 52. TOTTENHAM went two goals down against Wycombe but finally won 4-3 at home. Tottenham are now on 57 and they have scored in all of their last nine games. MILLWALL are on 57 goals and are in the next round as they win 1-0 at home to Watford. One of the shocks in this round was that LIVERPOOL are out of their second cup competition in a week as they lost 2-1 at home to WOLVES. Liverpool are now on a total of 65 goals while Wolves are now on 42. So the teams that are also out are NEWCASTLE. They lost 3-0 away to Oxford and that was their sixth blank of the season. LEEDS UNITED lost 1-0 away to non-league Sutton United. Leeds have now had a total of eight blank score sheets to date. BRIGHTON may be on a total of 55 goals but they lost to non-league team Lincoln City 3-1. ACCRINGTON STANLEY are also out as they lost 1-0 away to Middlesbrough to pick up their twelve blank of the season.

CHAMPIONSHIP
We still have the same four of the top six in this league with Brighton going back on top with Newcastle in second place and Leeds United in fourth place. Sheffield Wednesday are still in sixth place. But we did have four of our teams that did play as they are out of the FA Cup. They are NORWICH who won 2-0 at home to Birmingham and that takes their goals total to 59. PRESTON picked up goal number 45 in their 1-0 home draw against Ipswich. QUEENS PARK RANGERS lost 2-1 at home to Burton and that was their 33rd goal of the season. CARDIFF are also on 33 goals as they lost 2-1 away to Reading.

LEAGUE ONE
We still have just three of the top six teams here with SCUNTHORPE going back on top after they won 3-2 at home to PORT VALE. Scunthorpe are now on 60 goals while Port vale are now on 37. Sheffield United moved down to second place a sthey had now game while BRADFORD are still in fifth place after they won 2-1 away to OLDHAM. Bradford are now on 37 goals while Oldham are on 22 goals and still second from bottom. GILLINGHAM drew 1-1 at home to Shrewsbury and they are on 45 goals while CHARLTON after going a goal down came back to win 2-1 with ten men away to Bolton. Charlton take their goals tally to 39. BRISTOL ROVERS are on a total of 57 goals as they win 1-0 at home to Swindon. WALSALL were two goals down at half time but drew 3-3 in the end with Bury away. Walsall are now on a total of 36 goals. SOUTHEND are on 41 goals as they drew 1-1 away to Fleetwood. MK DONS picked up another high score as they win 4-0 away to PETERBOROUGH. It’s nine goals in their last two games for MK Dons and they are now on a total of 49 goals. Borough picked up their seventh blank and now two in a row.

LEAGUE TWO
We are back to just four teams out of the top seven teams here this weekend with DONCASTER still on top after they won 3-0 away to YEOVIL. Doncaster are now on a total of 60 goals while Yeovil picked up their eleventh blank of the season. Plymouth are still in second place while LUTON moved up to fourth place after they won 2-0 at home to Cambridge United. Luton are now on 52 goals. PORTSMOUTH have moved down to fifth place after they lost 1-0 at home to Exeter. Portsmouth have picked up their sixth blank of the season. It’s been a while since LEYTON ORIENT have played but they lost 2-0 away to Manfield to pick up their eleventh blank score sheet of the season.

SCOTTISH RESULTS
In the Scottish Premiership I think that we can say that CELTIC will be Champions again as they win 4-0 at home against Hearts to take their goals tally to 73. Celtic have now scored in all of their twenty-seven league and cup games and they are twenty-two points in front of rivals Rangers. RANGERS won 2-0 away to Motherwell to take their goals total to 52.
St JOHNSTONE won 3-0 at home to Hamilton and that takes their goals tally to 44.  After a four game dry spell of goals, KILMARNOCK are now on 24 goals as they win 3-2 at home to Ross County.
In the Championship top of the table HIBERNIAN won 1-0 away to Queen of South and that now gives them a total of 45 goals. FALKIRK in fourth place won 2-1 away to St Mirren and they are now on 37 goals.
In League One, PETERHEAD won 4-0 at home to Queens Park and that was their biggest result of the season. Peterhead are now on 36 goals. STENHOUSEMUIR are on a total of 38 goals as they win 4-2 at home to Airdrie.

Our Best Three Teams Are

CELTIC (73) NEWCASTLE (69) LIVERPOOL (65) Total of 207 goals

Our Worst Three Teams Are

OLDHAM (22) KILMARNOCK (24) ASTON VILLA (29) Total of 75 goals

Our Best team on form is still CELTIC after they have scored in all of their twenty-seven League and Cup games played and netting a total of 73 goals which still gives them an average score of two goals per game.

Our worst teams is  OLDHAM  this weekend as they have picked up a total of eighteen blank score sheets out of thirty-two games played.

Our highest goal scorers in our 34th Season are  HIBERNIAN after they won 8-1 away to non-league team Bonnyrigg Ross in the Fourth Round of the Scottish WILLIAM HILL CUP in Week Twenty-Five.

DANIEL GOODSON is now in his tenth weekend in a row at the top and now eleven weeks over the season. His combination picked him up a total of six goals over the week. One came from midweek and the rest came from the weekend. The goals came from Celtic 4, Newcastle 0 and Liverpool 1 which are once again our best three teams this weekend. Dan has kept his lead of two goals as our 2002/03 Champion Mike Pepperrell and Stephen Stubbs move up to joint second place this weekend.

At the other end at that dreaded number 136 we still have KATHY SOMERVILLE as her combination picked her up a total of seven goals for the week. Kathy is now in her fifth weekend at the bottom and now eleven weeks over the season. Kathy’s teams are Oldham, Tottenham and Yeovil. Kathy is now just three goals behind Malcolm Stubbs who has remained at 135th place this weekend.
