Week Thirty

It’s Week Thirty of Season 34 and we had our thirty-fifth winner of the season as a total of four players won a share in this weekends cash on a total of 9 goals. Our winners are BARBARA BARNES (2), our 2014/15 Champion TOBY BICKNELL, PHIL FRANCKSEN and BOB SAWYER. One of our winners Barbara has picked up her second win of the season with her second combination. Barbara last won some cash in our double rollover in week twenty-three which included the Christmas Jackpot. This is the highest that Barbara has been this season to date.
Toby picks up his first win of the season and he became Champion in the 2014/15 Season, which was his first season with us, when he won on a score of 311 goals and won a cool £100 plus two shared weekend wins. Not only that, he won the 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot of £30. He currently lies twelfth in our Champions League. Last Season he finished in 66th place on a total of 249 goals with one weekend win. This season Toby has been as high as 52nd place and that was in week one. He has not had any blank score sheets to date.
Phil is in his very first season with Golden Goals and I would like to thank him for joining in this season. Phil has been as high as 29th place in week seven but he has had three blank score sheets to date.
Bob has been with the competition for seven seasons now and in his first season of 2010/11 Bob finished in the winning frame in second place on 302 goals. He was five goals behind that seasons Champion Tony Guy. Last season Bob finished in 49th place on 254 goals. This season he has also had no blank score sheets and his highest position to date is 19th in week seven. Our four winners picked up just £1.50 pence each and they all have Celtic as their best team.

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
Most of us managed to pick up some more midweek goals this week with the highest score that we had was seven goals and they went to STEPHEN LEADER.  Steve picked them up from Arsenal 2, Hibernian 3 and Newcastle 2. There was again just a few changes in the race for the cash this week with DARYL NICHOLLS remaining in the lead now with a total of 97 goals which means he still needs just three goals to win the £80 cash. In second place still five goals behind Daryl is GRANT PHILLIPS now on a total of 92 goals. In third place all on 90 goals we still have DANIEL GOODSON but he is now joined with ANDY EYLES and MANGO both up from four. In fourth place up from five we have CHRIS SETFORD now on a total of 89 goals. In fifth place is still on STALKY (2) on 88 goals while DAVID SMITHERS is in sixth place on86 goals.

WEEKEND RESULTS
Not a bad weekend for goals as the average score moved up from three goals last weekend to 5 goals this weekend.  We had seven of our teams without a game over the weekend with another ten teams that failed to score any goals. The highest score over the weekend came from two of our teams and they were BRENTFORD and TOTTENHAM.
BRENTFORD from the English Championship won 4-2 at home to Rotherham and that now gives them a total of 55 goals. In the English Premiership TOTTENHAM won 4-0 at home to STOKE. Tottenham are now on a total of 65 goals while Stoke picked up their seventh blank of the season.

EFL Cup Final
Well I hate to say that I was right in that MANCHESTER UNITED picked up the first piece of silver ware as they just managed to beat SOUTHAMPTON 3-2 in the League Cup Final. If you can remember that I was the only person to vote for United on our poll on the Golden Goals blog and that’s only because I have them again this season. Still United are now on a total of 62 while Southampton are on 40.

PREMIERSHIP
CHELSEA are now on a total of 73 goals as they beat Swansea 3-1 at home to remain top of the Premiership. Tottenham moved into second place after their big win while Manchester City fall down to third with Arsenal still in fourth place as both teams had no game this week. Liverpool also had no game and remained in fifth place with Manchester United in sixth place. EVERTON are in seventh place as they win 2-0 at home to Sunderland and that takes their goals tally to 47 goals. WEST HAM drew 1-1 away to Watford and they are now on 39 goals while it’s 40 for BOURNEMOUTH as they lost 2-1 away to West Brom.

CHAMPIONSHIP
We still have the top two teams here with BRIGHTON on top after they won 3-0 at home to Reading. Brighton take their goals tally to 69. Newcastle are now just one point behind Brighton as they drew 2-2 at home to Bristol City. Newcastle are now on a total of 79 goals.
In the play-off zone, we still have two teams with LEEDS UNITED moving up to fourth place at home to SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY. Leeds are now on 54 goals while Wednesday picked up their sixth blank of the season and they have remained in sixth place.
Meanwhile it’s 71 goals for NORWICH as they drew 1-1 at home to Ipswich. ASTON VILLA won 1-0 at home to DERBY to take their goals tally to 32 while Derby picked up their fifteenth blank of the season and now two in a row. CARDIFF drew 2-2 at home to Fulham and they are now on 48 goals. PRESTON are on 53 goals after they won 2-1 at home to QUEENS PARK RANGERS. Rangers picked up their 43rd goal of the season. 

LEAGUE ONE
We still have the top two teams here with SHEFFIELD UNITED still on top after they won 2-0 at home to Bolton to take their goals tally to 70. In second place SCUNTHORPE drew 1-1 away to BRISTOL ROVERS. Scunthorpe hit goal number 63 while Rovers are on 60 goals.
In the Play-off zone we have BRADFORD who are still in fifth place after they win 2-1 away to PORT VALE. Bradford are now on a total of 45 goals while Vale are on 40.  SOUTHEND are still in sixth place as they lost 2-1 away to GILLINGHAM. Southend hit goal number 53 while Gillingham are on 54.
Meanwhile WALSALL picked up their twelfth blank of the season as they lost 1-0 away to AFC Wimbledon. CHARLTON picked up their second blank in a week and that gives them twelve this season after they lost 1-0at home to Bury. After a run of three games with out a goal, MK DONS won 2-1 at home to Shrewsbury.MK Dons are now on a total of 53 goals.
OLDHAM drew 0-0 at home against MILLWALL and that was their twenty-first blank score sheet and now two in a row. Millwall picked up their ninth and also two games in a row. It’s 60 to PETERBOROUGH as they win 3-1 at home to Rochdale.

LEAGUE TWO
We also have the top two teams here again this weekend with DONCASTER still on top after they drew 2-2 at home to ACCRINGTON STANLEY. Doncaster are now on 65 goals while Accrington are on 42. In second place is still PLYMOUTH after they drew again 1-1 away to fifth place LUTON. Plymouth are now on 55 goals and still three points behind Doncaster. Luton are on 62 goals.
In the play-off zone we have Luton in fifth place with PORTSMOUTH moving up to fourth as they win 3-0 away to Carlisle and that now gives them a total of 51 goals. COLCHESTER  have moved up to seventh place after they won 2-1 at home to Hartlepool to take their goals tally to  51 goals. LEYTON ORIENT picked up their thirteenth blank of the season as they lost 1-0 at home to Cheltenham. YEOVIL drew 0-0 away to Notts County and that was their thirteenth blank score sheet and now two in a row.

SCOTTISH RESULTS
In the Scottish Premiership, Champions CELTIC march on as they win 2-0 at home to Hamilton to extend their goals run to thirty-two games. They are now on a total of 89 goals. Still 24 points in behind them is ABERDEEN who won 1-0 at home to Ross County. Aberdeen are now on 60 goals with Rangers are still in third place. St JOHNSTONE lost 2-0 at home to KILMARNOCK to pick up their eight blank score sheet while Kilmarnock are now on 29 goals.
In the Championship,  HIBERNIAN are still top as they drew 2-2 at home to Dunfermline and they are now on a total of 53 goals. FALKIRK are still in third place as they drew 2-2 at home to Dumbarton and they are now on 46 goals. In League One, PETERHEAD drew 1-1 at home to East Fife and they are now on a tally of 42 goals.

Our Worst Three Teams Are

OLDHAM (27) KILMARNOCK (29) ASTON VILLA (32) Total of 88 goals

Our Best team on form is still CELTIC after they have scored in all of their thirty-two League and Cup games played and netting a total of 89 goals which still gives them an average score of two goals per game.

Our worst teams is  OLDHAM  this weekend as they have picked up a total of  twenty-one blank score sheets out of thirty-eight games played.

Our highest goal scorers in our 34th Season are  HIBERNIAN after they won 8-1 away to non-league team Bonnyrigg Ross in the Fourth Round of the Scottish WILLIAM HILL CUP in Week Twenty-Five.

STEPHEN STUBBS remains in first place for the fourth weekend running as his combination picks him up a total of nine goals. Two came from midweek with the other seven  from the weekend. The goals at the weekend came from Celtic 2, Chelsea 3 and Newcastle 3.This has given Steve a two goal gap between him and  Grant Phillips who has remained in second place, as he picks up a total of seven goals from his combination of Celtic, Newcastle and Norwich.

At the other end at that dreaded number 136 we have back KATHY SOMERVILLE as her combination picked her up a total of four goals for the week. Kathy is now in her fourteenth weekend at the bottom over the season to date and her combination is Oldham, Tottenham and Yeovil. Emma Sawyer moves up on goal difference as she picks up a total of five goals for the week. Her teams are once again Charlton, Hibernian and Leicester City.
