Week Eight

Here we are with Week Eight of the competition and there was no Weekend Prize Money to be won this week, due to the International games being played over the weekend. This means that we will be looking for our first Rollover of the season, which stands at £12.

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Just three of us managed to pick up some goals in midweek, as the International games kicked in. That means that the top five remains the same as last week’s News Sheet.

We have joint leaders again this week and they are ASHLEY LEGG and STALKY (1). Both are on a total of 39 goals. In second place we have GUY DOWSETT (1) and TIM WOOD both on a total of 37 goals. In third place we have ROBERT NETTING on a total of 36 goals. In fourth place we have MANDY WRIGHT (2) and TONY GUY (3), both on a total of 35 goals. In fifth place we have RICHIE WILLIAMS and MANDYME26, both with a total of 34 goals.  

WEEKEND RESULTS

Not much has happen over the weekend as we only had 11 of our teams in action. Out of our 11 teams, only two failed to score any goals. That means that a load of us picked up another blank weekend score sheet or our very first of the season. The highest score, over the weekend was 4 goals they came from the League Two where SALFORD CITY won 4-1 away.

Salford became our 111st team to join Golden Goals in the 2019/20, where they finished the season with a total of 51 goals. Their highest score came first in the 2022/23 and then again in their last time with us, in the 2023/24 season with 75 goals. This is their 6th season with us and over that time, they have netted a total of 336 goals, which gives them an average score of 56 goals per season. This season they have just one vote and have picked up 2 blank score sheets to date.

LEAGUE ONE  

Sheffield Wednesday remained in 2nd place, after they had no game over the weekend. CAMBRIDGE UNITED drew 1-1 at home to AFC WIMBLEDON and are on a total of 15 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. Wimbledon are on a total of 7 goals. STOCKPORT COUNTY won 1-0 at home against Peterborough and are on a total of 18 goals. READING drew 2-2 away to Wycombe and they are on a total of 21 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games.

LEAGUE TWO

Barnet are still top of the table after they no game over the weekend. After they had failed to score in their lats two league games, BRISTOL ROVERS won 1-0 at home to EXETER CITY and hit goal number 13. Exeter picked up their 6th blank of the season and now 4 games without a goal. CHESTERFIELD lost 2-1 away to Cheltenham and are on a total of 11 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games.  GRIMSBY TOWN lost 2-1 away to Newport. Grimsby are on a total of 13 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. YORK CITY won 3-0 at home to GILLINGHAM. York are on a total of 16 goals. Gillingham after a goal run of five games, picked up their fourth blank of the season. SALFORD CITY have picked up their biggest win of the season 4-1 away to Oldham. Salford have taken their goals tally to 13 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league games.

Our WORST three teams are

PORT VALE (3) EXETER CITY (4) COVENTRY CITY (6)  Total of 13 goals

Our best performing team are now WEST HAM UNITED after they have scored in all of their 11 league/cup games. With a total of 31 goals, their average score is 2.8 goals per game.

Our worst performing team is EXETER CITY, this weekend, as they have picked up six blank score sheets in 9 league/cup games. They have a total of 4 goals.

Our highest goal scoring team in our 44th Season are LIVINGSTON. They won 8-0 at home against Forfar in the first round group stages of the Scottish League Cup in Week One.

GUY DOSWETT (2) is celebrating his fourth weekend at the top this week, although he had none of his teams in action this week. Guy’s teams are Celtic, Clyde and West Ham United. He also remains in second place with his first selection this week, as again, none of his teams were in action over the week. Guy’s other teams are Clyde, Manchester City and West Ham United.

At the other end at 124 we still have our 2023/24 Champion JOHN FILTNESS, who has now been there for two consecutive weeks and now five over the season. John failed to picked up any goals from Gillingham at the weekend. His teams are Gillingham, Liverpool and Wrexham.

Things are not going to change much over the next couple of weeks, but here are out top ten as they stand.
