Week Seventeen

In Week Seventeen of the competition and we can now take our winners total to 25 as this weekend we had two winners to share the £6 weekend cash prize money on a total of 9 goals. They are TOM BAXTER and JAMES BLYTH.
Tom is in his second season with Golden Goals and in his first season last year he finished in 119th place on a total of 246 goals. Tom had one weekend win. This season Tom has had three blank score sheets at the weekend and this is his highest position to date. His best team is Celtic. James has been with us for three seasons. Last season he finished in 81st place on a total of 277 goals. This season James has also had three blank score sheets and this is his highest position to date. Celtic is also his best team. 100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
Most of us managed to pick up some midweek goals this week and the race for the cash has changed around just a bit. We had three players that picked up the most number of goals with 9 each. They were Jessica Barnett, Bob Sawyer and June Tighe. All three have Fulham as part of their combinations.
In first place on 48 goals we now have JAMES BLYTH moving up from two and in second place both on 47 goals we have CHRIS SETFORD and BOB SAWYER who has moved up from fourth place. In third place PHIL FRANCKSEN down from two and last week’s leader JULIE SOMERVILLE both are now on a total of 46 goals. In joint fourth place we have STEPHEN LEADER down from three and RICKY WOOD down from two both are on 45 goals. In fifth place all on 44 goals we have SIMON DICKINSON and TONY KING down from two and (Me) STEVE REEVE down from three, while GUY DOWSETT (1) and JUNE TIGHE join us at five this week.

WEEKEND RESULTS
This weekend the average score fell from five goals last weekend to just 4 this weekend. The reason for that is that we had six teams without a game and another twelve teams that failed to score any goals but also our top voted teams did not pick up many goals.. The highest score that we had over the weekend came from two of our teams. In the English Championship WOLVES picked up their highest score of the season with a 5-1 home win against BOLTON. Wolves have taken their goals total to 44 while Bolton hit goal number 21. In the Scottish League Two with their highest score of the season ELGIN won 5-1 at home to Berwick. Elgin are now on a total of 33 goals.

PREMIERSHIP
We Still have the top six teams here with MANCHESTER CITY still top after they won 2-1 away to Huddersfield. Manchester City take their goals tally to 44. Still eight points behind City in second place is MANCHESTER UNITED. They won just 1-0 at home to Brighton and are now on a total of 34 goals. CHELSEA are still in third place after they drew 1-1 away to LIVERPOOL. Chelsea picked up goal number 31 while Liverpool hit goal number 25 and move into sixth place. Up to Fourth place is ARSENAL as they win 1-0 away to Burnley. Arsenal are on 26 goals. TOTTENHAM are down to fifth place as they drew 1-1 at home against WEST BROM. As Tottenham picked up goal number 24 West Brom are now on 14 after a two game dry spell for goals. CRYSTAL PALACE are still stuck to the bottom of the table after they won their second league game of the season by beating Stoke 2-1 at home. Palace are now on 12 goals. NEWCASTLE picked up their sixth blank of the season after they lost 3-0 at home to on form Watford. Newcastle have now scored just one goal in their last four games. EVERTON lost 4-1 away to Southampton and they are now on 17 goals. BOURENMOUTH drew 0-0 away to Swansea and that was their seventh blank of the season.

CHAMPIONSHIP
We now have the top four teams here with Wolves still on top after their big win and they are now four points clear of second place CARDIFF who won 2-0 away to Nottingham Forest. Cardiff are now on a total of 30 goals. SHEFFIELD UNITED are down to third place as they drew 1-1 at home to BIRMINGHAM.  Sheffield United are now on 36 goals while Birmingham are on 16. ASTON VILLA have moved up to fourth place as they win 2-0 at home to IPSWICH. Villa are now on 34 goals while Ipswich picked up their fourth blank score sheet. LEEDS won 2-0 away to Barnsley to extend their goal run to eight games with a total of 41 goals. SUNDERLAND beat BURTON ALBION 2-0 away to take their goals tally up to 28 while Albion picked up their tenth blank of the season. After their five goals in midweek, FULHAM won 1-0 at home to Millwall and they are now on a total of 27 goals. HULL are on 32 goals as they lost 3-2 at home to Bristol City. MIDDLESBROUGH picked up their sixth blank score sheet after they lost 3-0 at home to Derby. NORWICH drew 1-1 a home to Preston and they are on 28 goals while READING drew 0-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday to get their seventh blank score sheet.

LEAGUE ONE
WIGAN have moved to top place as they win 3-1 away to Rotherham. With six goals in a week, Wigan are now on a total of 41 goals. In third place is now SCUNTHORPE after they won 2-0 at home to CHARLTON. Scunthorpe are now on 30 goals while Charlton picked up their fourth blank after a goal run of ten games and have dropped down to sixth place. BRADFORD are in fourth place as they win 1-0 away to second place Shrewsbury. Bradford are now on a total of 33 goals.  BLACKBURN have moved up to fifth place after they won 2-1 at home to Bristol Rovers to take their goals tally up to 36. After a two game dry spell for goals DONCASTER are now on 32 goals as they win 2-1 at home against MK DONS after going a goal down in the first ten minutes. FLEETWOOD picked up their fourth blank score sheet as they drew 0-0 at home to Blackpool. PETERBOROUGH lost 1-0 away to Rochdale and that was their fourth blank of the season. SOUTHEND are on 22 goals as they drew 1-1 at home to Oxford. PLYMOUTH are still bottom of the table after they lost 1-0 away to PORTSMOUTH. As Plymouth pick up their eighth blank of the season, Portsmouth take their goals tally to 26.

LEAGUE TWO
LUTON are now top this weekend after they won 2-1 away to Crewe. Luton are now on 49 goals. EXETER are still in fourth place as they win 2-0 at home to Accrington. Exeter are now on a total of 32 goals.  COVENTRY have moved up to sixth place after they drew 1-1 at home to Crawley. Coventry are now on 24 goals. MANSFIELD have moved up to seventh place as they drew 2-2 at home to Chesterfield. Mansfield are on 33 goals and have extended their goals run to nine games. FOREST GREEN are on 24 goals as they drew 1-1 at home to Cheltenham. LINCOLN CITY won 3-1 at home to PORT VALE to give them a total of 25 goals to Vale’s 22. COLCHESTER lost 2-1 away to Notts County and that was goal number 27 for them.

SCOTTISH RESULTS
In the Scottish League Cup, CELTIC have retained the cup for the fourth season in a row after they won 2-0 against Motherwell. Celtic have now extended their run of goals to seventeen games with a total of 45 goals.
In the Premiership ABERDEEN in second place are now three points behind Celtic as they win 3-1 away to Kilmarnock. Aberdeen are now on 24 goals. In the Championship FALKIRK lost 3-0 at home to Morton to pick up their sixth blank score sheet of the season and two in a row now.  In League One RAITH won 2-0 at home to Queens Park. Raith after a two game dry spell for goals are now on 37 goals. In League Two STENHOUSEMUIR lost 1-0 at home to Montrose that is their third blank of the season.

The only team with a 100% goal scoring run is CELTIC who have now scored in all of their seventeen League/Cup games played with a total of 45 goals. That gives them an average score of 2.6 goals per game.

DONCASTER have picked up the most number of blank score sheets with a total of eleven out of twenty-four league/cup games played.

Our highest goal scoring team in our 35th Season is PETERHEAD from the Scottish League Two. They picked up our highest score in week eleven as they won 9-0 at home to non-league team Colville Park in the WILLIAM HILL CUP Second Round. 

Our 2013/14 Champion PAUL DAVEY is now in his second weekend at  number one as his combination picked him up a total of 9 goals for the week. Paul has Celtic, Luton and Manchester City. He is now five goals clear of Chris Boom and Tom Baxter in second and third place.
At the other end at number 149 we still have COLIN PINDER who is now spending his fourth consecutive weekend there and now six over the Season. Colin picked up six goals from his combination for the week. His teams are Colchester, Crystal Palace and Southend.
