In Week Forty of the competition we are now in injury time as the
season comes ever nearer to the end. With the very last full fixture for our 36th
Season, we all managed to pick up some goals this weekend, with five players
picking up the highest score with nine goals each. They were PHIL FRANKSEN,
DOUG MORBEY,
MIKE PEPPERRELL, ALICE STUBBS and STEPHEN STUBBS.
100
MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
We now have
five players that have now reached 100 Midweek goals this week. GRAHAM HARRIS is on a total of 107
goals. His combination is Hearts, Tottenham and West Brom. Graham is a very long
way off of beating our record held by Daryl
Nicholls with 136 goals from the 2016/17 Season. John Davies is still in second place but with 106 goals. In third
place is now Adam Sansom down from two.
Kellie Stratton is now down to fourth place with 102 goals. In fifth place down
from four is June Tighe now with 100
goals. In sixth place on 98 goals we have Toby
Bicknell.
WEEKEND
RESULTS
We had all
but three of our teams in action over weekend with twelve of them failing to
score any goals. In the last full weekend of football, the weekends average score
went up from three goals from last weekend to 4 goals this weekend.
The highest
score that we had was four goals and they came from the League One where CHARLTON won 4- 0 at home against ROCHDALE. Charlton are now on a total
of 79 goals and they have now scored in all of their last eight games. Rochdale
picked up their twelfth blank score sheet after a goal run of eight games.
Charlton became
our 38th English team to join Golden Goals and this is their twenty-ninth Season. In their
first season they finished on a score of 49 goals and that was in our second
season of 1984/85. Their highest score came in the 1997/98 Season with 91
goals. Last season they netted a total of 65 goals. They have now been in all of
our last twelve seasons. Over the years they have scored a total of 1825 goals
which gives them an average score of 62 goals per season.
PREMIERSHIP
We still have the top nine teams here this weekend with LIVERPOOL
holding on to top place after they won 3-2 away to Newcastle. Liverpool are now
on a total of 89 goals and they have now scored in all of their last eight
games. Manchester City are in second place but with a game in hand. CHELSEA
have moved up to third place after they won 3-0
at home to Watford. Chelsea are now on 76 goals. TOTTENHAM have moved
down to fourth place after they lost 1-0 away to BOURNEMOUTH. Tottenham
have now had a total of seven blank score sheets with two in a row and just one
goal in their last four games. Bournemouth picked up goal number 62. ARSENAL
are still in fifth place after they drew 1-1 at home to Brighton. Arsenal are
on 79 goals this week. MANCHESTER UNITED are still in sixth place
after they drew 1-1 away to relegated Huddersfield. United are now on 75 goals. WOLVES
are still seventh after they won 1-0 at home to relegated FULHAM. That
is Wolves 61st goal of the season while Fulham picked up their
fifteenth blank score sheet. Everton are in eighth place with Leicester
City in ninth place. WEST HAM are on 64 goals after they won
3-0 at home against Southampton.
CHAMPIONSHIP
With Norwich top and Sheffield United in second place, both
teams have now been promoted to the Prem.
In the Play-off Zone, we still have all four teams. LEEDS
UNITED are in third place after they lost 3-2 away to relegated IPSWICH.
Leeds are now on a total of 76 goals while Ipswich have taken their goals total
up to 37. WEST BROM are in fourth place after they lost 3-1 away to DERBY
in sixth place. West Brom are on 92 goals to Derby’s 85.ASTON VILLA are in
fifth place after they lost 2-1 at home to Champions Norwich. Villa are on 82
goals.
Meanwhile BLACKBURN drew 2-2 at home to SWANSEA and
both teams have finished on a total of 78 goals each. BRENTFORD won 3-0
at home to Preston and they end the season on 86 goals. HULL finish on
68 goals after they drew 1-1 at home to Bristol City. It’s 70 goals for NOTTINGHAM
FOREST as they win 1-0 at home to Bolton. After a goal run of seven games, BIRMINGHAM
picked up their fifteenth blank of the season after they drew 0-0 away to
Reading. ROTHERHAM lost 2-1 at home to Middlesbrough and they end on 55
goals. STOKE drew 2-2 at home to Sheffield United and they have finished
on 52 goals.
LEAGUE ONE
LUTON are Champions after they won 3-1
at home to Oxford United. Luton end the season on a total of 93 goals and a
goal run of ten games. BARNSLEY now been promoted in second place after
they lost 2-1 away to BRISTOL ROVERS. Barnsley finished the season on a total of 89 goals while
Rovers finished on 52 goals.
In the Play-off Zone we have ended up with three of the four
teams. Charlton moved up to third place after their big win with PORTSMOUTH
down to fourth place as they drew 1-1 with ACCRINGTON STANLEY.
Portsmouth are on 91 goals and a goal run of twelve games. Accrington finished
the season on 57 goals. SUNDERLAND are down to fifth place after they
lost 2-1 away to SOUTHEND. Sunderland are on 83 and a goal run of ten
games. Southend finished on 66 goals.
Meanwhile COVENTRY lost 2-0 away to Doncaster and that
was their eleventh blank of the season. PETERBOROUGH won 3-1 at home to BURTON
ALBION and they have finished on a total of 80 goals to Albion’s 76. PLYMOUTH
won 3-2 away to SCUNTHORPE. Both teams have been relegated with Plymouth
finishing on 61 goals to Scunthopre’s 56. SHREWSBURY drew 0-0 at home to
Walsall and they have had a total of fourteen blank score sheets this season. WYCOMBE
end the season with 61 goals as they win 1-0 at home to Fleetwood.
LEAGUE TWO
Champions LINCOLN CITY lost yet again 3-0 at home
against Colchester. Lincoln have now failed to score in their last four games. MK
DON have moved up to third place and promoted after they won 1-0 at home
against MANSFIELD. The Dons have finished on a total of 75 goals while Mansfield
are in the play-off’s in third place with their tenth blank of the season.
They are now the only team we have in the play-off’s.
Meanwhile EXETER drew 0-0 away to Forest Green and
that was their twelfth blank of the season. OLDHAM lost 5-2 at home to
Northampton and they end the season on 74 goals. SWINDON won 3-1 at home
to NOTTS COUNTY who are now relegated. Swindon end their season on 61
goals while County go out of the football league with 51 goals.
SCOTTISH LEAGUES
In the
Scottish Premiership, Champions CELTIC won 3-0 away to ABERDEEN. Celtic have taken their goals
total to 96 goals and have now won the title for eight consecutive seasons. Aberdeen picked up their twelfth blank of the
season and now two in a row. RANGERS
are still second as they win 1-0 at home
to HIBERNIAN. Rangers are now on 95 goals while Hibs picked
up their thirteenth blank score sheet. HEARTS lost 1-0 at
home to Kilmarnock to pick up their twelfth blank score sheet. HAMILTON are in the play-off’s after
they won 1-0 away to Dundee. Livingston and they are now on 31 goals.
In the Championship, ROSS COUNTY are Champions after they lost 3-2 away to relegated FALKIRK. County have finished on a
total of 77 goals while Falkirk end on 43.
AYR UNITED are in the play-off’s after they drew 1-1 to ALLOA Ayr are now on 68 goals while Alloa finished on 52 goals.
In League One, RAITH ROVERS are still in third place and in the play-off’s after
they drew 1-1 away to Montrose. Raith are
on 84 goals and have now scored in all of their last twelve games. DUMBARTON drew 1-1 away to Arbroath and
they end the season on a total of 63
goals. STENHOUSEMUIR drew 1-1 away to Brechin and that is their
45th goal of the season and a spot in the play-off’s.
In League Two, PETERHEAD are Champions after they won 2-0 away to Queen’s Park.
Peterhead end their season with a total of 69 goals.

Our Best
teams this week are ASTON VILLA after they
have scored in all of their last thirteen League and Cup games
played. They have a total of 82 goals from forty-nine games which gives them a
average score of 1.6 goals per game.
Our worst
team this week is IPSWICH as they have picked up
a total of twenty-one blank score sheets out of thirty-eight League and Cup games
played this season. They have scored just four goals in their last six games.
Our biggest
result in our 36th Season comes from MANCHESTER CITY as
they win 9-0 at home against league one BURTON
ALBION in the Carabao/League Cup semi-final
first leg tie in Week Twenty-Four.
BOB SAWYER is back on
top this weekend as he picks up six goals from the weekend. Bob has now been at
the top for a total of five weekends over the season. He has also moved up the Champions League to 12th place and has
beaten three past Champions. They include our 1998/99 joint Champions Paul
Locker & Eddie Draper’s score of 311 goals, Toby Bicknell’s score also of
311 goals in the 2014/15 Season. Bob is
now above Jon Lynch’s score of 312 goals in the 1996/97 Season. Bob’s teams are once again. Celtic, Luton and Manchester City. Kellie Stratton moves back down to second place as she picks up a
total of just four goals all from the weekend from Celtic, Manchester
City and West Brom.
At the other end at 133 we still have
John Filtness at the bottom for a
total of thirty-one consecutive weekends as he picks up a total of four goals all
coming from the weekend. He has now had thirty-four weeks at the bottom but he
is now twelve goals adrift this weekend.
His teams are Birmingham, Hamilton and Liverpool. John has made more progress
in our Loser’s League by moving up the table by beating our past three lowest
scores. John is now above Peter Porter 1992/93, Jeremy Hillier’s 1988/89 and
Jon Lynch’s score all of 182 goals. John has moved up to 11th place
in our Losers League.
