Week Twenty-Two

 

In Week Twenty-Two of the competition we have no prize money for the final games of 2023 due to the limited fixture. So we start 2024 with our fourth Rollover coming up next weekend worth £10. The highest amount of goals came from our 2015/16 Champion RICHARD WILLIAMS with a total of 9 goals. His teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

All but one of us have picked up goals this week and the race for the cash has changed slightly again this week. We have 11 players that are over the half-way mark this week. The highest score that we had in midweek came from our 2007/08 Champion  RICKY WOOD with 15 goals. His teams are Barnsley, Celtic and Southampton. Ricky now has a total of 49 midweek goals.

Remaining in first place this week we still have MARK GREGORY leading the pack, now with a total of 59 goals. Mark has Barnsley, Celtic and Middlesbrough. Remaining in second place we still have PETER PORTER now on a total of 58 goals. In third place down from two we now have JAMES SOMERVILLE on a total of 57 goals. In fourth place down from three we now have our 2017/18 Champion CHRIS BOLBERY now with a total of 56 goals. In fifth place we still have ANDY EYLES now on a total of 55 goals. In sixth place this week we have BAILEY MORAN down from five and ANN WELLARD down from two. Both are now on a total of 54 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

Here are the very last games of 2023. We only had 19 of our teams in action over the weekend and out of them we had 2 of our teams that failed to score any goals. The highest score that we had came from the Scottish League One where FALKIRK won 5-0 at home to Stirling. Falkirk are now on a total of  55 goals.

Falkirk became our 27th Scottish team to enter Golden Goals when they started in the 2002/03 Season. In that season they picked up their highest score of 92 goals. Last time that we had Falkirk was in the 2020/21 Season with them finishing with a total of 40 goals. This is their 11th Season with Golden Goals and over the years they have netted a total of 736 goals. That now gives them a total average of 66 goals per season. This season they have just one vote and they have picked up a total of three blank score sheets to date. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

Liverpool are now top of the table with ASTON VILLA now in second place after they won 3-2 at home to Burnley and are now on a total of 44 goals and they have now scored in all of their 9 league/cup games. In third place we have MANCHESTER CITY who won 2-0 at home to bottom of the table Sheffield United. City are on a total of 45 goals. CHELSEA won 3-2 away to Luton and are now on a total of 40 goals. CRYSTAL PALACE won 3-1 at home to Brentford and they have taken their goals total to 26. NOTTINGHAM FOREST won 2-1 at home against MANCHESTER UNITED. Forest are on a total of 24 goals while United hit goal number 25. FULHAM won 2-1 at home against London rivals ARSENAL and are on a total of 35 goals while Arsenal are on 39 goals. TOTTENHAM won 3-1 at home against BOURNEMOUTH and are now on a total of 43 goals and they have now extended their 100% scoring record to 21 league/cup games. Bournemouth are on a total of 34 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 12 league/cup games. 

SCOTTISH RESULTS 

In the Premiership top of the table CELTIC won 2-1 at home to second place RANGERS in this local derby. Celtic are on a total of 50 goals while Rangers are on a total of 48 goals and have now scored in all of their last 18 league/cup games. ABERDEEN lost 3-0 at home to St Mirren and that is their 10th blank of the season. ROSS COUNTY drew 2-2 away to Hearts and are on a total of 35 goals after they had failed to score in their previous two games. KILMARNOCK drew 2-2 at home to Dundee and they are on a total of 34 goals. 

In League One Falkirk are still top of the table after their win.  COVE RANGERS drew 1-1 away to Montrose and are on a total of 46 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 14 league/cup games. 

In League Two STENHOUSEMUIR are still top of the table after they won 2-1 away to CLYDE. Stenhousemuir are on a total of 36 goals and have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. Clyde who are still bottom of the table are on a total of 27 goals. EAST FIFE drew 0-0 away to Forfar and that is their 11th blank of the season and now two in a row. 

Our BEST three teams this week 

PETERBOROUGH (59) NOTTS COUNTY (58) IPSWICH (56) Total of 173 goals 

Our WORST three teams are 

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY (20) ABERDEEN (24) NOTTINGHAM FOREST (24)  Total of 68 goals 

Our Best performing team are still PETERBOROUGH after they have now scored in all of their 25 league/cup games. They have a total of 59 goals which gives them an average score of 1.9 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is STOKE CITY this week as they have picked up 12 blank score sheets out of their 28 league/cup games. 

Our highest goal scoring teams in our 41st Season are NEWCASTLE UNITED after they won 8-0 away to Sheffield United in Week Eight. BARNSLEY and BRISTOL ROVERS have both pick up our second highest score with 7 goals. Barnsley won 7-0 at home to Port Vale in the first league game of the season in Week One. Bristol Rovers won 7-2 at home to non-league Whitby Town in the first round of the FA CUP in Week Fourteen.

JAMES SOMERVILLE starts 2024 at the top for his second consecutive weekend. James picked up a total of 12 goals from the week. James teams are Celtic, Leicester City and Peterborough.

Scott Thomson (2) remains in second place but now 5 goals behind James. Scott picked up a total of 11 goals this week from his second selection of Celtic, Peterborough, Wrexham.

At the other end at 110 we still have CHARLIE FARLEY (John Wood) for his third weekend. John picked up just 6 goals from the weekend. John has Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir.
