Week Fourteen

In Week Fourteen of the competition we had 2 winners once again to share the £5 Weekend Prize Money. Our winners are GEOFF CARTHY and IAN SMITH, which now means that we have had a total of 15 winners this season as both are first time winners. Our winners won on a score of 11 goals.

Geoff started with Golden Goals back in the 1986/87 season on where he finished on a total of 201 goals in 36th place. Last season Geoff finished in the winning frame in 12th place on a total of 316 goals. This season, Geoff has picked up just 1 blank weekend score sheet and this his his personal best score for the second weekend running. This is the highest that Geoff has been so far. His best team is Celtic.

Ian started with us back in the 2014/15 season and he finished in 77th place with 242 goals. Last season Ian finished in 72nd place with 283 goals. This season he has picked up his personal best score and no blank weekend score sheets to date. This is the highest that Ian has been all season. His best team is also Celtic. Our winners teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Only 11 players picked up any goals this week so the race for the 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot has remained mostly the same as last weeks. In the lead we still have BARBARA BARNES (2) still with that 6 goal lead with a total of 35 goals. Her teams are Celtic, Falkirk and Manchester United. In second place we still have DAVID BARRETT and ALFIE DIMMOCK both with a total of 29 goals. In third place we now have BRUCE SELF and RICKY WOOD our 2007/08 joint Champion but joining them this week we have STUART KEMP (1). All are on a total of 27 goals. In fourth place with a total of 26 goals we now have CHRIS SETFORD and SCOTT THOMSON (1) but joining them we have PHIL COLLINS. In fifth place we still have STUART KEMPT (2) and MARTIN CORBETT both with a total of 25 goals.

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had just 2 of our teams without a game over the weekend and another 16 of them failed to score any goals. With a total of 18 teams without a goal this weekend, it has effected our average score. The average score for last weekend was five goals, this weekend we are at a poor 4 goals. Well done if you have received more than that from your teams. The highest score over the weekend was 6 goals and they came from League One where PETERBOROUGH picked up their biggest result of the season by winning 6-1 at home against Cambridge Utd and have taken their goals tally up to 35 goals.

Peterborough became our 90th voted English team back in the 1997/98 where they finished the season on a total of 73 goals. Their highest score came in the 2010/11 with 129 goals which is our third highest end of season score. Borough hit another 100 goals last season with 102. This is their 19th season with Golden Goals and over the years they have netted a total of 1502 goals to date. This gives them an average score of 79 goals per season. This season they have a total of 14 votes. They have picked up 5 blank score sheets to date. Here are the other weekend results.

PREMIER LEAGUE

LIVERPOOL are still top after they won 2-0 at home to ASTON VILLA. Liverpool are on a total of 29 goals and have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. Villa picked up their third blank score sheet. MANCHESTER CITY remain in second place after they lost their second consecutive league game 2-1 away to Brighton. City are on a total of 25 goals and have extended their goal run to 13 league/cup games, AFC BOURNEMOUTH lost 3-2 away to Brentford and are on a total of 15 goals. CRYSTAL PALCE picked up their fifth blank of the season after they lost 2-0 at home to Fulham. WEST HAM drew 0-0 at home to Everton and picked up their third blank of the season and now 2 in a row. SOUTHAMPTON lost 2-0 away to Wolves and picked up their fifth blank of the season and are back at the foot of the table. MANCHESTER UNITED won 3-0 at home against LEICESTER CITY and are now on a total of 24 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. Leicester picked up their second blank of the season after a goal run of 6 league/cup games. NEWCASTLE picked up their biggest result of the season by winning 3-1 away to Nottingham Forest. Newcastle are now on a total of 17 goals. TOTTENHAM lost 2-1 at home to IPSWICH TOWN and picked up goal number 27. Ipswich are on a total of 14 goals. CHELSEA drew 1-1 against ARSENAL in the London derby and they are on a total of 26 goals. Arsenal are also on 26 goals.

CHAMPIONSHIP

SHEFFIELD UNITED move up to second place after they won 1-0 at home to rivals Sheffield Wednesday. United are on a total of 23 goals. LEEDS UNITED moved down to third place this weekend after they won 2-0 at home to QPR. Leeds are now on a total of 24 goals. MIDDLESBROUGH picked up their biggest result of the season as they win 5-1 at home against LUTON TOWN. Middlesbrough have taken their goals tally up to 26 goals. Luton hit goal number 18. MILLWALL drew 1-1 away to Stoke and are on a total of 19 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. NORWICH CITY picked up their fifth blank score sheet after they lost 2-0 at home to Bristol City. PORTSMOUTH won their second league game 3-1 at home to PRESTON NE. Portsmouth are now on a total of 16 goals. Preston picked goal number 23. After they had failed to score in their previous 3 games, BURNLEY won 1-0 at home to SWANSEA CITY and are now on a total of 18 goals. Swansea picked up their ninth blank of the season.

LEAGUE ONE

BIRMINGHAM CITY are now in second place after they drew 1-1 at home to Northampton. Birmingham are on a total of 26 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. WREXHAM won 1-0 at home to Mansfield and are on a total of 24 goals. HUDDERSFIELD TOWN drew 2-2 away to Crawley Town and are on a total of 26 goals. CHARLTON lost 1-0 away to Exeter City and picked up their fourth blank of the season after a goal run of 6 league/cup games. BLACKPOOL lost 3-0 away to Leyton Orient and picked up their fourth blank of the season. BOLTON picked up their sixth blank of the season after they lost 5-0 away to Stockport County.

LEAGUE TWO

NOTTS COUNTY are our highest team here in third place after they drew 1-1 away to DONCASTER ROVERS. County are on a total of 31 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. Doncaster are on a total of 24 goals. BROMLEY drew 1-1 away to Cheltenham and picked up goal number 21 and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. After a goal run of 9 league/cup games, CHESTERFIELD picked up their third blank of the season after they lost 3-0 at home against Accrington. AFC WIMBLEDON lost 1-0 at home to Grimsby. That is Wimbledon’s sixth blank of the season. MK DONS won 3-1 at home to Swindon and have taken their goals total to 24.

SCOTTISH LEAGUES

In the Premiership leaders Celtic have remained top on goal difference after they won 2-0 away to KILMARNOCK. Celtic have kept their 100% scoring record after 14 league/cup games and are on a total of 45 goals. Kilmarnock after a goal run of 8 league/cup games, picked up their fifth blank of the season. RANGERS won 1-0 at home to HEARTS and are on a total of 23 goals. Hearts after a goal run of 8 league/cup games, picked up their fifth blank of the season. ROSS COUNTY lost 3-0 away to Dundee Utd and picked up their eighth blank score sheet and now 3 games without a goal.  DUNDEE lost 4-1 away to Aberdeen and are on a total of 42 goals.

In the Championship FALKIRK are now 6 points clear at the top after they won 2-0 at home to Airdrie and are on a total of 42 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. 

In League One, COVE RANGERS have moved down to second place after they lost 2-1 at home to Inverness CT and are now on a total of 25 goals. They have now scored in all of their last 14 league/cup games. STENHOUSEMUIR drew 1-1 away to Annan and are on a total of 21 goals.

In League Two PETERHEAD are now top after they won 3-2 away to Stirling and are now on a total of 28 goals. EAST FIFE drop down to second place after they lost 2-1 at home to Stranraer and are on a total of 34 goals. CLYDE picked up their fifth blank of the season after a goal run of 5 league/cup games, lost 1-0 away to Edinburgh City.

Our WORST three teams are

Our best performing team is still CELTIC after they have now scored in all of their 14 league/cup games. They have a total of 45 goals which gives them an average score of 3.2 goals per game.

Our worst performing team is SWANSEA CITY this weekend after they picked up their 9th blank score sheet from 17 league/cup games. They have a total of 13 goals.

Our highest goal-scoring teams in our 42nd Season are MANCHESTER UNITED after they won 7-0 at home to BARNSLEY in the Carabao/League Cup 3rd Round in Week Seven. DUNDEE won 7-1 away to Bonnyrigg Rose in the Scottish League Cup in the very first game in the first round group stages.

Our leader is still BARBARA BARNES (2) at the top for her second weekend and her third over the season. Barbara picked up a total of 7 goals this weekend. Her teams are Celtic, Falkirk and Manchester United. Jed Wearden has moved up to second place this weekend and is only 2 goals behind Barbara. Jed’s teams picked up a total of 10 goals this weekend from Celtic, Liverpool and Peterborough. 

At the other end at 114 we still have MANDY WRIGHT with her eighth weekend. Mandy’s teams picked up just 2 goals this weekend. Her teams are Bournemouth, West Ham and AFC Wimbledon.

Once again this week we have had a slight change in the table.
