Mexico
have just three votes this time round and this is their fifth World Cup games
with Golden Goals. The best that
they have done is five goals from the 2006 games where they made it through to
the second round. In 2010 they scored just four goals and again through to the
second round.
We have
already had some funny decisions given by the officals in the start of this
World Cup and they seemed to be getting even worse when three goals were all
given off-side in the first half. Mexico had two goals off-side, but one was
clearly a goal, while the Cameroon’s had one. In the end Mexico won 1-0 with
the winning goal coming in the 61st minute from Peralta. So Brazil
are top with Mexico in second place both on three points while Cameroon
followed by Croatia with no points.
In Group B one of the biggest games to see
was with SPAIN and
HOLLAND. These two teams should make it through this group but
what a rematch to the last World Cup final when Spain won 1-0 against Holland.
Spain is our second nation that have been in all of our seven World Cup finals
and in this one they had a total of 18 votes out of 50. Spain’s best number of
goals came in the 1994 and 2002 finals with a total of ten goals. In the last
World Cup, they finished on 8 goals. Holland have a total of 13 votes and this
is their sixth World Cup with Golden
Goals. The best that the Dutch have done is 13 goals in the 1998 finals
where they made it to the 3rd and 4th play off’s. Not
being able to see the whole game Spain did go one up before being beaten 5-1 by
Holland.
In the
other game, CHILE
won 3-1 against the under dog’s, Australia which is the best start that they have
had to date with Golden Goals. This
is their only second outting with us and back in 1998 they finished on a total
of 5 goals and they made it through to the second round. They have just two
votes in this World Cup. So in Group B Holland are top and Chile are second
both on three points. They are then followed by Australia and at the bottom of
the table, Spain.
So At the
end of the second day games, all of our five nations have scored goals giving
us a total of 13 goals to date. The highest number of goals from the first
round, after they had all played their first game, came from the 2002 World Cup
with 30 goals, and we only had seventeen teams in that one.
