Week Twenty-Five

Here we are with Week Twenty-FIve of  the competition and we are back with our normal weekend cash prize money of £5. The cash went to our 22nd winner of the season PETER PORTER on a score of 8 goals which is the lowest since Week Four. Peter started with Golden Goals in the 1989/90 Season on where he finished in 40th place with a total of 182 goals and he had one shared weekend win. Last season Peter finished in 48th place with a total of 275 goals. This season he has been as high as 29th place in Week Twenty-One. He has picked up a total of five blank weekend score sheets. His best team is Manchester City netting 55 of his total of 146 goals. His teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Forty-two of us have managed to pick up some midweek goals again this week with another small change in the leading pack this week as we now have a total of 15 of our players are now over the half way mark for the cash. It was RICHARD WILLIAMS our 2015/16 Champion that picked up the most number of goals with a total of 6 from his combination of  Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United. The goals have taken his midweek total to 49.

We still have joint leaders this week with JAMES BLYTH and NICK HORTON both are on a total of 57 goals. In second place we still have HAYLEY ADKINS with a total of 56 goals. In third place we still have TOBY BICKNELL our 2014/15 Champion and CHRIS NUNN but joining them this week we have COLIN WEBB moving up from sixth place. All are on a total of 54 goals. In fourth place we still have SIMON DICKINSON and RICK WOOD our 2007/08 Champion  but they are now joined with (me) STEVE REEVE all of us are on a total of 53 goals. In fifth place with a total of 52 goals we still have and KEITH THOMSON but he is now joined with FIONA CARHTY coming back in to the race. In sixth place this week we have on a total of 51 goals CHRIS DICKER and TONY GUY (2) our 2010/11 Champion. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

This weekend we had all but 6 of our teams were in action and out of them 13 failed to score any goals. Now that we are getting back to normal, last weekend we had our first average score of 5 goals to start 2023. This weekend the  average score fell down to just 3 goals. So if you did better than that, well done.

The highest result that we had came from League Two where SWINDON won 5-0 at home against Grimsby. The goals have taken their goals total to 33. Swindon became our 56th voted team back in the 1986/87 Season and they finished with a total of 99 goals. It was not long before they hit their first and only 100 goals in the 1989/90 Season. Last season they finished with a total of 85 goals. This is their 22nd Season with Golden Goals and over that time they have scored a total of 1606 goals, which gives them a average score of 73 goals per season to date. This season they have 3 votes and they have picked up a total of 10 blank score sheets. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

ARSENAL are still top of the league after they won 2-0 away to London rivals TOTTENHAM. Arsenal are on a total of 46 goals while Tottenham picked up their 4th blank of the season. Arsenal are 8 points in front of second place MANCHESTER CITY after they lost 2-1 away to MANCHESTER UNITED after going a goal up. City are on a total of 55 goals as they lost their 3rd league game. United are on  a total of 41 goals and have extended their goal run to thirteen games. NEWCASTLE are now in third place after they won 1-0 at home to FULHAM. They are on a total of 39 goals while Fulham picked up their 4th blank of the season after a goal run of seven games. CHELSEA won 1-0 at home to CRYSTAL PALACE and are on  a total of 22 goals. Palace picked up their 9th blank score sheet. A shock result at the weekend is where BRIGHTON beat LIVERPOOL 3-0 at home. Brighton have taken their goals tally to 46 while Liverpool after a goal run of six games, picked up their 4th blank of the season. EVERTON lost 2-1 at home to Southampton and they are on a total of 18 goals. LEICESTER CITY picked up their 8th blank score sheet and now two games in a row after they lost 2-0 away to Nottingham Forest. WEST HAM lost 1-0 away to Wolves and they have now had a total of nine blank score sheets. BOURNEMOUTH lost 2-0 away to Brentford and that is their 12th blank score sheet and they have now scored just 2 goals in their last six games. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

Top of the table BURNLEY won 1-0 at home to Coventry and that is goal number 61 for them. SHEFFIELD UNITED are in second place after they won 3-1 at home against Stoke. United are now on a total of 49 goals and a goal run of eight games now.

In the Play-Offs WATFORD are now in third place after they won 2-0 at home to Blackpool. Watford are on a total of 33 goals. MIDDLESBROUGH are in fourth place after they won 1-0 at home to MIllwall and they are on a total of 43 goals and a goal run of twelve games now. In sixth place we have WEST BROM who won 3-2 away to LUTON. West Brom are now on a total of 39 goals and a goal run of nine games. Luton are on a total of 36 goals and a goal run of seven games.

Meanwhile HUDDERSFIELD drew 1-1 away to Hull and they are on a total of 27 goals. After failing to score in their previous two games, NORWICH picked up their biggest result of the season by winning 4-0 away to Preston. Norwich have taken their goals total to 40. READING drew 2-2 at home to QPR and that has taken their goals tally to 34. SUNDERLAND lost 3-1 at home to SWANSEA and they are on a total of 41goals and a goal run of nine games. Swansea are now on a total of 42 goals and a goal run of six games. 

LEAGUE ONE

Top of the table PLYMOUTH drew again 1-1 away to IPSWICH. Plymouth are on a total of 48 goals while Ipswich in third place are on 59 goals. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY are in second place as they win 1-0 away to Wycombe and picked up their 58th goal of the season.

In the Play-Offs we have Ipswich in third place with DERBY in fourth place. They won 3-2 away to Cheltenham and they have taken their goals tally to 51.

Meanwhile BRISTOL ROVERS lost 2-0 away to Accrington and that is their 6th blank score sheet after a goal run of seven games. It’s 50 goals for CHARLTON after they won 2-0 at home to Barnsley. FOREST GREEN ROVERS are at the bottom of the table as they drew 1-1 away to Exeter and they are on a total of 28 goals. After they failed to score in their last two games, OXFORD UNITED won 2-1 away to Fleetwood and they are on a total of 39 goals. MK DONS drew 0-0 at home to LINCOLN CITY and picked up their 11th blank score sheet while Lincoln also picked up their 11th blank of the season. 

LEAGUE TWO

In the Play-Offs we have SALFORD CITY in fifth place after they won 2-0 at home to SUTTON UNITED and they are now on a total of 35 goals and a goal run of seven games now. Sutton picked up their 11th blank of the season. Swindon are now in sixth place after their win. BRADFORD CITY are in seventh place after their 0-0 away draw against AFC WIMBLEDON. Bradford have now had a total of nine blank score sheets to Wimbledon’s total of eleven and now two in a row.

Meanwhile GILLINGHAM may be bottom of the table but they won their 3rd league game of the season, 2-0 at home against Hartlepool. Gillingham after scoring just one goal in their last five games, are now on a total of 18. MANSFIELD TOWN drew 1-1 at home to Crewe and that is their 39th goal of the season. STOCKPORT COUNTY won 2-0 at home to Northampton and are on a total of 46 goals. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUE RESULTS

In the Scottish League Cup semi-finals CELTIC won 2-0 at home to Kilmarnock and they are now on a total of 75 goals and a goal run of sixteen games. RANGERS had a tough job in beating ABERDEEN in their game as they had to beat a 10-man Aberdeen in extra time. After going a goal down in the first half, Rangers equalised in the last minutes of injury time in the second half. They went on to win 2-1 in extra time to face their rivals Celtic in the final. Rangers are now on a total of 54 goals and a goal run of seventeen games. Aberdeen picked up goal number 56. 

In the Premiership Champions HIBERNIAN drew 2-2 at home to Dundee Utd and they are now on a total of 39 goals.

In League One ALLOA won 2-1 at home to FC Edinburgh and are on a total of 47 goals. KELTY HEARTS drew 1-1 at home to Airdrie and they are on a total of 26 goals. 

In League Two STENHOUSEMUIR drew 1-1 away to East Fife and they are on a total of 45 goals and they have now scored in all of their last nineteen games. 

Our BEST three teams this week

Our WORST three teams are 

GILLINGHAM (18) WEST HAM (18) EVERTON (18) Total of 54 goals 

Our best performing team are now STENHOUSEMUIR as they have now scored in all of their last 19 league/cup games played. They have a total of 45 goals. That gives them an average score of 1.7 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is GILLINGHAM this weekend as they have picked up 19th blank score sheets out of 33 League/Cup games played. 

Our highest goal scorers in our 40th Season are CELTIC who won 9-0 away to Dundee Utd in the league and LIVERPOOL who won 9-0 at home to Bournemouth in the league both from Week Five.

Our 2010/11 Champion TONY GUY with his second selection, has remained at the top for his 12th consecutive weekend. Tony picked up a total of 8 goals this week from Arsenal, Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday and is now 7 goals in front. James Blyth has moved to second place this weekend. James picked up a total of 3 goals from his combination of Ipswich, Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday.  

At the other end at 108 we still have SANDRA NICHOLLS as she picked up just 2 goals. Sandra’s teams are Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Leicester City. Sandra has now been here for a total of 12 weeks throughout the season. 

There is really no change in the top ten this week due to low scoring.
