Week Nine

In Week Nine of the competition we had our 13th winner of the season winning on a score of 10 goals. The £5 Weekend Prize Money went to one of our double Champion winners PHIL REEVE.

Phil has been with us for all of our 41 Seasons. He became Champion in the 1987/88 Season finishing with 302 goals and then again in the 2011/12 Season with 308 goals. Last season he finished in 95th place with a total of 219 goals.. This season Phil has been as high as 25th place in Week Two. He has picked up just one blank score sheet and this is his personal best weekend score. His winning teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Over half of us picked up some goals in midweek, which means that there is yet another slight change in the race for the cash. In the lead we still have our 2015/16 Champion RICHARD WILLIAMS now with 28 goals. In second place we have CHARLIE FARLEY (John Wood) now with a total of 27 goals. Remaining In third place we still have BAILEY MORAN now with a total of 24 goals. In fourth place now with 24 goals we still have JAMES SOMERVILLE. In fifth place we have TONY KING with 20 goals. In sixth place we have ANDY EYLES and MALCOLM STUBBS both down from four. They are joined with RICHIE WILLIAMS all are on a total of 19 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had all but four of our teams in action over the weekend, but 11 of our teams failed to score any goals. We had another fantastic weekend of football with plenty of goals again, but the average score moved down from six last weekend to 5 goals this weekend. So if your combination picked up more than that, then you have done very well this weekend.

The Highest score over the weekend was 6 goals and they came from the Premier League where ASTON VILLA picked up their biggest result of the season by winning 6-1 at home to BRIGHTON. Villa have taken their goals tally up to 19 goals while Brighton hit goal number 19.

Aston Villa became our 23rd voted team in our first season. They finished with a total of 73 goals. Their highest end of season score came in the 2018/19 Season with 87 goals. Last season they finished with 58 goals. This is their 23rd Season with Golden Goals and over the years their average score is 62 goals per season. This season they have just one vote and they have picked up just one blank score sheet out of their eight league/cup games played. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

Hanging on to the op of the table is MANCHESTER CITY after they lost 2-1 away to Wolves. City have taken their goals total up to 17 goals.  TOTTENHAM are in second place after they beat nine men LIVERPOOL 2-1 at home. Tottenham are on a total of 18 goals and they have also kept their 100% scoring record after eight league/cup games. Liverpool have also extended their goal run to eight league/cup games and they have a total of 19 goals. ARSENAL won 4-0 away to BOURNEMOUTH and with their biggest result of the season, have taken their goals tally to 16 goals and keep their 100% scoring record after a total of eight league/cup games. Bournemouth picked up their third blank of the season. MANCHESTER UNITED picked up their second blank of the season after a goal run of five league/cup games as they lost 1-0 at home to CRYSTAL PALACE. Palace are on a total of 11 goals after they had failed to score in their last two games. NEWCASTLE won 2-0 at home to Burnley and they are on a total of 19 goals and have a goal run of six league.cup games. WEST HAM won 2-0 at home to Sheffield United and they are on a total of 14 goals and have kept their 100% scoring record after eight league/cup games. NOTTINGHAM FOREST drew 1-1 at home to Brentford and hit goal number 8.  

CHAMPIONSHIP

LEICESTER CITY are still top after they won 4-1 away to Blackburn Rovers. Leicester are now on a total of 23 goals. IPSWICH are still in second place after they drew 1-1 away to Huddersfield. Ipswich have kept their 100% scoring record going after a total of twelve league/cup games. They are now on a total of 25 goals. SOUTHAMPTON won 3-1 at home to LEEDS UNITED and have taken their goals total to 16 goals. Leeds hit goal number 17. BRISTOL CITY lost 3-2 at home against STOKE and they are on a total of 16 goals while Stoke are on 19. PLYMOUTH drew 1-1 away to Hull and are on a total of 21 goals and have now scored in all of their last eight league/cup games. SWANSEA picked up another three goals in their 3-0 away win over Millwall. Swansea are now on a total of 18 goals. NORWICH won 2-0 at home to Birmingham and are on a total of 22 goals. MIDDLESBROUGH won 3-2 away to Watford and are now on a total of 18 goals. 

LEAGUE ONE

BARNSLEY picked up their first blank of the season as they went down 1-0 at home to BLACKPOOL  after a total of ten league/cup games Blackpool are now on a total of 11 goals. DERBY drew 0-0 at home to Cambridge Utd and that is their second blank score sheet after a goal run of seven league/cup games. PETERBOROUGH won 2-0 at home to BRISTOL ROVERS and are on a total of 19 goals while Rovers picked up their third blank of the season. READING drew 0-0 at home to Burton and that is their fourth blank of the season. CHARLTON drew 0-0 away to Shrewsbury and picked up their second blank score sheet after a goal run of six league/cup games. 

LEAGUE TWO

NOTTS COUNTY top of the table lost 5-4 away to Colchester. County are now on a total of 23 goals and a goal run of seven league/cup games. AFC WIMBLEDON picked up their highest result of the season by winning 4-1 at home to Tranmere. Wimbledon have taken their goals tally to 22 and have now scored in all of their last eleven league/cup games. SUTTON UNITED lost 3-0 away to Crawley and that is their fourth blank of the season. MK DONS lost 1-0 at home to Harrogate and they have now had a total of two blank score sheets after a goal run of eight league/cup games. SALFORD CITY lost 2-1 at home to Newport and they are on a total of 16 goals. WREXHAM drew 3-3 at home to Crewe and they are now on a total of 20 goals. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES

In the Premiership CELTIC are still at the top of the table after they won 2-1 away to Motherwell. Celtic have taken their goals tally to 16. RANGERS are still in third place, after they lost 3-1 at home to ABERDEEN. Rangers are on a total of 16 goals while Aberdeen are now on a total of 14 goals. HIBERNIAN drew 0-0 at home to Dundee and that is their first blank of the season after a goal run of eight games. KILMARNOCK drew 1-1 at home against St Mirren and they are on a total of 18 goals. ROSS COUNTY lost 1-0 at home to Hearts and that is their third blank of the season. 

In League One FALKIRK are still top after they won 3-2 at home to Montrose. Falkirk have now scored in all of their last nine league/cup games and have a total of 31 goals. KELTY HEARTS won 3-1 at home to Queen of the South and they are now on a total of 22 goals. COVE RANGERS drew 2-2 away to Stirling and are on a total of 22 goals. 

In League Two STENHOUSEMUIR are down to second place this weekend after they drew 2-2 at home to CLYDE.

Stenhousemuir are on a total of 16 goals and have now scored in all of their last six league/cup games. Clyde are on a total of 10 goals. EAST FIFE drew 1-1 at home to Forfar and are on a total of 10 goals. 

Our BEST three teams this week

Our WORST three teams are 

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY (7) CHELSEA (8) NOTTINGHAM FOREST (8) Total of 23 goals 

Our Best performing team is FALKIRK after they have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. They have a total of 31 goals which gives them an average score of 2.5 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is BLACKPOOL this weekend as they have picked up six blank score sheets in their 11 league/cup games. 

Our highest goal scoring team in our 41st Season are now NEWCASTLE UNITED after they won 8-0 away to Sheffield United in Week Eight.  BARNSLEY pick up our second highest score after they won 7-0 at home to Port Vale in the first league game of the season in Week One.

RICHARD WILLIAMS our 2015/16 Champion is at the top for his eighth consecutive weekend. Richard picked up a total of 5 goals from the week. His teams are Falkirk, Manchester City and Ross County.  He is still out in front but now down to 10 goals clear of Andy Eyles who has remained in second place. Andy picked up a total of 6 goals this week from his teams of  Barnsley, Leicester City and Manchester City.

At the other end at 110 we now have STEVE STUBBS who now becomes our the sixth player to stay there. Steve picked up just 3 goals from the week His teams are Celtic, Chelsea and Reading.

The top three have remained the same this weekend but the rets of the field is catching up now.
