Week Twenty-Eight

In Week Twenty-Eight of the competition we had another two winners to share the £5 weekend prize money. Both of our winners have picked up their second win of the season, our winners total stands at 30. Our winners are MANGO (Paul Moran) and our 2002/03 Champion MIKE PEPPERRELL both winning on a total of 13 goals, which is both their personal best weekend score. 

Mango, Paul, first won in Week Twenty-Five and that was also a shared win. Although Paul has jumped up to 38th place this weekend, 14th place in Week Two is still his best position to date.

Mike last won some cash in Week Twenty, once again although he has moved up to 43rd place, Week Five saw him at his highest in 36th place to date. Our winners teams are once again

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Most of us have managed to pick up a goal or two this week and the race for the cash has changed once again this week. We can now add another 13 players who are over the half-way mark this week bringing our total to 67. In first place this week we now have ANN WELLARD up from second place with a total of 76 goals. Ann’s teams are Barnsley, Chelsea and Rangers. In second place we now have last weeks leader PETER PORTER with TONY KING up from four. Both are on a total of 75 goals. In third place both down from second place we have ANDY EYLES and JAMES SOMERVILLE and up from five MARK JOHNSTON all on a total of 74 goals. In fourth place we still have BAILEY MORAN he is now joined with GEOFF CARTHY down from three and DOUG MORBEY up from five. All are on a total of 73 goals. In fifth place we still have JOHN FILTNESS but he is now joined with MARK GREGORY and GRANT PHILLIPS both down from four. All three are on a total of 71 goals. In sixth place we still have JAMES BLYTH and our 2017/18 Champion CHRIS BOLBERY  both with a total of 70 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had all but six of our teams in action over the weekend and we had just 7 teams failed to score any goals. It was once again a full fixture this weekend and with some high scoring games. The average score for this weekend went up from five goals from last weekend back up to 7 goals this weekend.

The highest score that we had came from the Premier League with 6 goals where ARSENAL beat London rivals WEST HAM 6-0 away. With their biggest result of the season, Arsenal have taken their goals tally up to 55 goals while West Ham picked up their 6th blank of the season and now two in a row.

Arsenal joined Golden Goals in our second season of 1984/85. They became our 26th English team and ended the season with a total of 75 goals. Their highest score came in the 2003/04 Season with 103 goals. Last season they finished with a total of 92 goals. This is their 39th Season with us and over the years they have netted a total of 3198 goals. That gives them an average score of 82 goals per season to date. This season they have a total of 37 votes and they have picked up just four blank score sheets. Here are all of the weekends results.

PREMIER LEAGUE

LIVERPOOL have remained top of the table, after they won 3-1 at home to Burnley and are now on a total of 75 goals and have now scored in all of their last 12 league/cup games. In second place we now have MANCHESTER CITY after they won 2-0 at home to Everton. City are on a total of 62 goals and have now scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games. With Arsenal in third place TOTTENHAM are in fourth place after they won 2-1 at home to BRIGHTON. Tottenham are on a total of 53 goals while Brighton are on 52 goals. FULHAM won 3-1 at home to BOURNEMOUTH and are on a total of 43 goals while Bournemouth are on 45. NOTTINGHAM FOREST lost 3-2 at home to NEWCASTLE and are on a total of 36 goals. Newcastle have taken their goals tally up to 61 goals and have now scored in all of their last 8 league/cup games. ASTON VILLA lost 2-1 at home to MANCHESTER UNITED and picked up goal number 53. United are on 42 and have now scored in all of their last 8 league/cup games.

CHAMPIONSHIP

We still have LEICESTER CITY at the top here after they won 2-1 away to Watford and they are on a total of 77 and have now scored in all of their last 17 league/cup games. SOUTHAMPTON are still in second place after they won 5-3 at home to Huddersfield. Southampton have taken their goals tally up to 69 goals and have extended their goal run to 26 league/cup games.

In the Play-offs in third place we still have LEEDS UNITED after they won 3-0 at home against bottom of the table Rotherham. Leeds are now on a total of 65 goals and have now scored in all of their last 8 league/cup games. IPSWICH TOWN are still in fourth place after they drew 2-2 at home to West Brom. Ipswich are on a total of 67 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games.

Meanwhile STOKE lost 3-1 away to Blackburn Rovers and are on a total of 39 goals. SWANSEA won 1-0 away to Hull and picked up goal number 47. MIDDLESBROUGH lost 2-1 at home to BRISTOL CITY and are on a total of 60 goals while City are on 43 goals. NORWICH drew 2-2 away to QPR and are on 59 goals. SUNDERLAND won 3-1 at home to PLYMOUTH and are on a total of 45 goals. Plymouth hit goal number 58 and have now scored in all of their last 12 league/cup games.

LEAGUE ONE

Our highest team here is still DERBY in second place after they drew 1-1 at home to Shrewsbury. Derby are on a total of 57 goals.

In the Play-offs we still have two teams and they are BARNSLEY now in fourth place after they won 2-1 at home against Leyton Orient. Barnsley are on a total of 63 goals and have now scored in all of their last 15 league/cup games. PETERBOROUGH are down to fifth place after they lost 5-2 away to Wycombe. Borough are on 71 goals.

Meanwhile BLACKPOOL drew 1-1 at home to Oxford Utd and are on a total of 59 goals. BRISTOL ROVERS lost 2-1 at home to Burton and they are on a total of 54 goals. READING won 2-0 at home to CHARLTON and are on a total of 49 goals while Charlton picked up their 8th blank score sheet and now two in a row.

LEAGUE TWO

In the Play-offs we are back to  two of the four teams. They are WREXHAM now in fifth place after they lost 1-0 at home to Bradford City. Wrexham picked up their 6th blank of the season. MK DONS are still in sixth place after they won 2-1 at home to Accrington. The Dons are on a total of 51 goals.

Meanwhile it’s 60 goals for AFC WIMBLEDON after they won 2-0 at home to Barrow. After a goal run to 7 league/cup games, SUTTON UNITED lost 1-0 away to Morecambe and picked up their 9th blank of the season. SALFORD CITY drew 1-1 away to Swindon and are on a total of 52 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games.

SCOTTISH RESULTS

SCOTTISH CUP Fifth Round. We had 6 of our teams in action and out of them 5 have made it through to the next round. Teams through are ABERDEEN after they won 2-0 at home against Bonnyrigg Rose and are on a total of 35 goals. HIBERNIAN won 3-1 away to Inverness CT and are now on a total of 39 goals. KILMARNOCK won 2-0 at home against COVE RANGERS and are on a total of 43 goals and have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. Rangers picked up their 7th blank of the season. RANGERS won 2-0 at home to Ayr Utd and are on a total of 66 goals and have extended their goal run to 25 league/cup games. CELTIC won 2-0 away to St Mirren and are on a total of 64 goals and have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games.

In League One top of the table Falkirk had no game again this week. So the only team to play here are KELTY HEARTS who drew 0-0 at home to Queen of the South. Kelty have now had a total of seven blank score sheets.

In League Two top of the table STENHOUSEMUIR drew 1-1 away to EAST FIFE and hit goal number 44 and have now scored in all of their last 15 league/cup games. Fife after they had failed to score in their last two games, they picked up goal number 32. CLYDE lost 2-1 away to Stranraer and picked up their 9th blank of the season and they are still rooted to the bottom of the league.

Our Best performing team are now SOUTHAMPTON after they have now scored in all of their last 26 league/cup games. They have a total of 69 goals which gives them an average score of 2 goals per game.

Our worst performing team is SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY this week as they have picked up 15 blank score sheets out of their 36 league/cup games.

Our highest goal scoring teams in our 41st Season are NEWCASTLE UNITED after they won 8-0 away to Sheffield United in Week Eight. BARNSLEY and BRISTOL ROVERS have both pick up our second highest score with 7 goals. Barnsley won 7-0 at home to Port Vale in the first league game of the season in Week One. Bristol Rovers won 7-2 at home to non-league Whitby Town in the first round of the FA CUP in Week Fourteen.

JOHN FILTNESS celebrates his second weekend at the top as he picks up a total of 10 goals from the week. He’s teams are Leicester City, Liverpool and Manchester City. James Somerville is still in second place this weekend as he picked up a total of 9 goals this week. James is now just 2 goals behind John. James teams are once again Celtic, Leicester City and Peterborough.

At the other end at 110 we have CHARLIE FARLEY (John Wood) for his ninth consecutive weekend. John picked up another 4 goals this weekend. John has Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir. 

We had yet another good weekend for goals and but the top ten has only slightly changed.
