Week Twenty-Eight

SIMON DICKINSON has moved to the top this weekend and becomes the ninth person to do so this our 33rd Season.  Simon’s combination picked him up a total of six goals over the weekend. They came from Celtic 2, Manchester City 1 and Portsmouth 3. RICHARD WILLIAMS moves down to second place only on goal difference as his combination picked him up just two goals for the week. His teams are Hibernian, Manchester City and Rangers.

At the other end, it’s still STEPTOE & SON at number 119 for his fourth weekend as his combination picked him up just two goals at the weekend from Queens Park Rangers and Queen of the South. Queens Park failed to score again at the weekend. 

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
 There was twenty-seven of you that picked up some more midweek goals this week and out of them another four players reached that magic score 50 or more goals bringing the total up to 62 this week.
The highest score this week was a total of just four goals and they went to CRAIG EVANS. Craig picked up his goals from Hearts with three and Middlesbrough with one.  Manchester City is his third team. He now has a total of 64 midweek goals.
So this is how the race to £40 is looking this week with the same old names but in different positions. We have three players in joint leadership this week. They are JAMES HUNTER who remains here but now with JOHN DAVIES and DANIEL GOODSON who both moved up from second place all with a total of 65 goals. In second place is still DAVE WESTON but he is now joined with CRAIG EVANS who jumped up from sixth place. Both are on 64 goals. In third place both on 63 goals we have MARK UNSTEAD a none mover and up from four ADRIAN BEW. In fourth place both up from five are CHRIS BOLBERY and JAMES WISE both are on a total of 61 goals while in fifth place up from six we have RICHARD WILLIAMS and TOM MACDONALD both still with 60 goals. 

We had our 39th winner of the season this weekend as DOUG MORBEY wins on a total of 12 goals. This is his personal best and this is the highest that he has been this season for quite a while. Dough has been with Golden Goals since season eight and in that season of 1990/91. Doug finished in 33rd place on a total of 231 goals. Last season he finished in 87th place on 232 goals but the season before last he did finish in the winning frame in 18th place with 309 goals. He also had two weekend wins and so took home over £11 in winnings.This season Doug has had three blank score sheets and 25th place in week eight is his highest position to date. Rangers is his best team. His combination for this season is

WEEKEND RESULTS                      
We have had a better week of football than last week as our average score moved up a place to 4 goals each. We had six teams that had now game and another sixteen teams that failed to net any goals.
The highest score that we had came from the English Premiership where LIVERPOOL beat foot of the table, Aston Villa 6-0 away. That is the highest score that we have had from Liverpool this season and they are now on a total of 53 goals. Liverpool have just 4  votes this season. Liverpool are just one of four teams that have a 100% appearance with Golden Goals. In the first season they picked up a total of 103 goals and in our third season of 1985/86 Season they picked up a record number of 127 goals which they held on to for 24 years before Chelsea beat them in 2009/10 with 128 goals. Liverpool have score 100 or more goals in six of the 32 Seasons and last season they finished on 68 goals. Over the years they have scored a total of 2712 goals which gives them an average score of 82 goals per season. 

PREMIERSHIP
Leicester City have remain top of the table this weekend even though they got beaten by ARSENAL 2-1 away. Arsenal are still in third place on 48 goals. TOTTENHAM are still in second place as they win 2-1 away to fourth place MANCHESTER CITY. Tottenham are on 56 goals and they have now scored in all of their last seven games. City take their goals total up to 72. MANCHESTER UNITED are in fifth place as they lost 2-1 away to Sunderland to pick up goal number 40. CHELSEA picked up another five goals as they win 5-1 at home against NEWCASTLE. Chelsea are now on 50 goals while Newcastle are now on 31. WATFORD after a two game dry spell are now on a total of 31 goals as they win 2-1 away to Crystal Palace. NORWICH also after a two game dry spell drew 2-2 at home to WEST HAM and they are now on 36 goals and West Ham are on 44. EVERTON picked up their 6th blank of the season as they lost 1-0 at home to West Brom.  

CHAMPIONSHIP
HULL are top here again this weekend as they win 2-0 away to Blackburn and that takes their goals tally to 57. With Middlesbrough in second place, we have three teams in the play-off zone again this weekend. BURNLEY are in third place even though they drew 0-0 away to Reading. Burnley have now had a total of ten blank score sheets. BRIGHTON are in fourth place as they win 3-2 at home to BOLTON. Brighton are on 42 goals while Bolton are on 35. DERBY are in sixth place as they lost 1-0 at home to MK DONS. Derby picked up their 9th blank and they have now scored just three goals in their last six games. The Dons are now on 35. Meanwhile it’s 30 goals for BRISTOL CITY as they win 2-1 at home to IPSWICH. Ipswich are on 49. CHARLTON drew 0-0 at home to CARDIFF and that now means that Charlton have failed to score in their last two games giving them a total of fifteen blank score sheets. Cardiff picked up their 11th blank and also two games without a goal. NOTTINGHAM FOREST picked up their 10th blank as they lost 2-0 at home to Huddersfield. Forest have now netted one goals in their last four games. QPR lost 3-1 at home to Fulham and that was their 41st goal of the season. BRENTFORD lost 4-0 away to Sheffield Wednesday and that was their 10th blank and now two games in a row. PRESTON are on 35 gaols as they win 2-1 away to WOLVES who picked up goal number 44. 

LEAGUE ONE
BURTON ALBION are still on top this weekend after their win on Friday night. We still have two teams in the play-off zone with WIGAN moving up to fourth place as they drew 0-0 at home to Oldham. That is their 9th blank of the season.  MILLWALL are also still in there as they win 1-0 away to Rochdale. Millwall are now on 53 goals. BLACKPOOL are now on 30 goals as they lost 3-2 at home to Shrewsbury. After a three game dry spell for goals, SWINDON picked up another four goals in their 4-1 away win over Colchester. SHEFFIELD UNITED are now on 51 goals as they win 1-0 away to Doncaster. PETERBOROUGH lost 4-0 at home to Bradford and that was their 6th blank score sheet. PORT VALE picked up their 12th as they drew 0-0 at home to Fleetwood. It’s 40 goals for SCUNTHORPE  as they win 1-0 at home to SOUTHEND. Southend picked up their 12th blank of the season. 

LEAGUE TWO
PLYMOUTH are in second place here as they win 3-0 at home to Mansfield. Plymouth are now on 47 goals. In the Play-off zone we have again two out of the four teams. WYCOMBE in fourth place beat EXETER 1-0 at home. Wycombe are on 43 goals while Exeter picked up their 9th blank score sheet. PORTSMOUTH who are our other team in the zone in fifth place won 3-1 at home to Bristol Rovers and that now gives them a total of 59 goals. Meanwhile LUTON lost 4-1 away to AFC Wimbledon but it was their 49th goal to date. LEYTON ORIENT lost 4-0 at home to top of the table Northampton to pick up their 5th blank of the season. STEVENAGE won 2-0 at home to Cambridge and that gives them a total of 46 goals. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES
CELTIC won 2-0 against Ross County in the Premiership and the goals now gives them a total of 76 goals and they are catching up on Rangers. RANGERS in the Championship drew 1-1 away to Alloa and that was their 81st goal. FALKIRK drew 2-2 at home to Raith and that takes them to a total of 51 goals. HIBERNIAN picked up their 2nd blank of the season after a goals run of twenty-five games, as they drew 0-0 away to Livingston. QUEEN OF SOUTH won 1-0 at home to St Mirren to pick up goal number 27 while in the lower leagues, STENHOUSEMUIR won 3-2 at home to Airdrie after a two game dry spell and that now takes their goals tally to 36. CLYDE picked up their second blank in a row and now ten this season as they lost 1-0 away to Elgin. QUEENS PARK lost 3-0 at home to East Stirling and that now gives them three blank score sheets in a row and ten over the season. BERWICK lost 2-1 away to Stirling and are on 31 goals.

BOLTON and CHARLTON have both picked up the most number of blank score sheets this season with a total of fifteen each.

The highest scoring team in our 33rd Season is now CELTIC from the Scottish Premiership, when they beat Hamilton 8-1 at home in a midweek league game in week twenty-five.

We have a slight change in the race for this season's champion and the weeks are quickly going by.
