Week Twenty-Nine

In Week Twenty-Nine of the competition we had two winners this weekend to share the £6 Cash Weekend Jackpot on a score of 8 goals. One of our winners is there first win of the season and that is me STEVE REEVE. The other winner is John Wood with his second win with his ZIGGY combination. I now become our thirty-seventh winner of the season.
I became Champion in the 2008/09 Season winning on a total of 290 goals winning a total of  £53. That score has left me in twenty-seventh place in our Champions League. Since them I have had to change my combination and I have had this one for quite a few seasons now. Last season I finished in 128th place out of 136 on a total of 226 goals. This season I have picked up a total of five blank score sheets at the weekend and my highest position is 13th in Week Four.
Ziggy/John Wood has been with Golden Goals for a long while now and we thank him and his family for their support. Although John became Champion last season, Ziggy (the dog) has not just yet. With this selection, John finished in 129th place last season on total of 129 goals. This season, he has been as high as 9th place in Week One. He has picked up just one blank score sheet to date. Our winners combinations are

Me  MANCHESTER UNITED 2, RANGERS 5, WOLVES 1
Ziggy  RANGERS 5, SCUNTHORPE 2, STENHOUSEMUIR 1

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
Half of us managed to pick up some more midweek goals this weeks ANDY EYLES picking up the most amount of goals with a total of nine. They came from Chelsea’s two games with seven goals and two from Blackburn. Celtic is his third team. So there has been a big change in the race for the cash this week.
On a total of 85 goals, I’am still in the lead (Me) STEVE REEVE but none of my teams were in action this week. My teams are Manchester United, Rangers and Wolves. In second place this week all on 83 goals we have  BARBARA BARNES (3), GEOFF CARTHY and ANDY EYLES, all coming straight in this week. In joint third place on 82 goals we have BOB SOPER down from two, JAMES BLYTH and ROBERT FREEMAN both up from four, while GEOFF DOCKERILL our 1994/95 Champion and HARRY CORNEY both coming back in. In joint fourth place all on 81 goals we have RAYMOND HARROD and MIKE PEPPERRELL both down from three with STEPHEN LEADER who has remained there. STEVE CADWELL, MICK LIDDLE and  ALICE STUBBS our 2012/13 Champion have all moved up to join them.

WEEKEND RESULTS
After a great week last weekend, we come down with  a bump as most of our big teams did not have any games over the weekend. So this weekends average score came to just 2 goals which is well below the seasons average score. The reason for this is that most of you have Celtic and Manchester City as part of your combinations as I said last week where Celtic failed to score in their game and City had now game. But that also went for Arsenal and Chelsea.
We had seventeen of our teams with out a game this weekend and another eleven teams that failed to score any goals.
The highest score that we had came from the Scottish Premiership again from RANGERS as they win 5-3 away to Hamilton. Rangers have taken their goals tally to 71 goals with fourteen goals coming from their last four games.

FA CUP Fifth Round
We already know that two of our teams are through to the next round of the cup and they are Chelsea and Leicester CityBut we had another four in action over the weekend but only one has made it through to the next round. That team is MANCHESTER UNITED who won 2-0 away to Huddersfield. United are now on a total of 66 goals. TOTTENHAM might be another one of our teams through if they can win the replay after they drew 2-2 away to Rochdale. Tottenham are now on 63 goals. COVENTRY go out as they lost 3-1 away to Brighton. The goal gives Coventry a total of 46. WEST BROM are also out as they lost 2-1 at home to Southampton. West Brom picked up goal number 31.

Our highest goal scoring team in our 35th Season is PETERHEAD from the Scottish League Two. They picked up our highest score in week eleven as they won 9-0 at home to non-league team Colville Park in the WILLIAM HILL CUP Second Round.
