Week Two

Here we are with Week Two of the competition and this weekend we had a near full league fixture, which gave us our second winner of the season. Our winner was PETER PORTER who won on a score of 11 goals and has won himself £6 this weekend. Peter started with us back in the 1989/90 Season, where he finished in 40th place out of 44 on a total of 182 goals. He also picked up one shared weekend win. Last season, Peter finished in 41st place out of 111 with a total of 255 goals and had two weekend wins. This season he has picked up his personal best score and has no blank score sheets to date. His teams for this season are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

We can now have our first look at who is in the lead for our 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot worth a total of £50 this season. The prize money will go to the first person to reach 100 goals from their three teams.

Taking the lead after two weeks of football, we have CHARLIE FRALEY (John Wood)with 26 goals already. His teams are East Kilbride, Rangers and Stenhousemuir. In second place we have our 2010/11 & 2022/23 double Champion TONY GUY (3) and CJEXPRESS26 both with on a total of 18 goals. In third place we have DAVID BARRETT with 15 goals. In fourth place with 14 goals we have MARK WALKER. In fifth place we have MANDYME26 with a total of 13 goals.

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had the start of the lower English fixture’s and we had a few high scores, the overall was a good start to the season. We had 4 teams with no game over the weekend, with another eight of our teams that failed to score any goals and another 14 teams without a gameSo for our very first weekend the average score was just 4 goals, which is good as a total of 16 players failed to pick up any goals. If your combination picked up more than that, then you have done very well this weekend.

The highest score over the weekend was 6 goals and they came from the Scottish League Cup 2nd Round where HEARTS where they won 6-2 at home to Inverness CT. With their biggest result to date, Hearts are now on a total of 11 goals.

Hearts became our 11th voted team back in the 1986/87 season and they finished on a total of 72 goals. Their highest score of 98 goals was reached in the 2014/15 season. Last season they finished on a total of 85 goals. This is their 19th appearance with Golden Goals and over the years they have netted a total of 1249 goals, which gives them an average score of 65 goals per season to date. Hearts have three votes this season and they have started the season well.

CHAMPIONSHIP

CHARLTON have won their first league game 2-1 at home against DERBY COUNTY. Charlton are on a total of 5 goals while Derby are on 2 goals. MIDDLESBROUGH won 2-1 at home to Lincoln City and are on a total of 3 goals. PRESTON NE lost their opening game 2-1 away to Bolton. Preston are on a total of 2 goals. BRISTOL CITY lost 2-0 at home to Millwall and have now failed to score any goals in their first two games of the season, including their cup game. BRIMINGHAM CITY drew 0-0 away to Sheffield United and picked up their first blank score sheet of the season. SOUTHAMPTON have already started the season with a 4 point deduction, so not the result that they wanted as they lost 2-1 away to Watford. Southampton are on a total of 3 goals. BURNLEY drew their first game 2-2 at home to WEST HAM UNITED. Burnley are on a total of 3 goals while West Ham are on 5 goals.

LEAGUE ONE 

BROMLEY won their first game 1-0 away to Barnsley, and are on a total of 2 goals. LEICESTER CITY drew 1-1 in their opening game against Notts County away. Leicester are on a total of 2 goals. OXFORD UNITED have picked up their first goals in their 2-2 draw against MK DONS at home. The Dons are on a total of 3 goals. LUTON TOWN picked up their biggest win to date as they win 4-3 away to READING. Luton are now on a total of 7 goals, while Reading are on 4 goals. CAMBRIDGE UNITED picked up their biggest result after they won 3-2 at home against Wigan, and are now on a total of 5 goals. HUDDERSFIELD TOWN won 3-0 at home to AFC WIMBLEDON and with their biggest result of the season, they are now on a total of 4 goals. Wimbledon picked up their first blank of the season. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY won 2-1 away to Leyton Orient and are on a total of 3 goals. STOCKPORT COUNTY won their opening game 3-1 away to Plymouth. County are on a total of 4 goals.

LEAGUE TWO

BARNET won their opening game 3-1 at home to SALFORD CITY and are on a total of 4 goals. Salford are on a total of 2 goals. PORT VALE lost their opening game 2-0 away to Oldham, and that is their second blank of the season. CHESTERFIELD have picked up their second blank of the season after they lost 1-0 at home to Fleetwood. GILLINGHAM also picked up their second blank score sheet after they lost 3-0 at home to Walsall. GRIMSBY TOWN won 1-0 at home against EXETER CITY and are on a total of 2 goals. Exeter picked up their second blank of the season. YORK CITY have won their first league game and goals in their 3-2 at home to BRISTOL ROVERS. Rovers also picked up their first goals.

SCOTTISH LEAGUES

In the Scottish League Cup 2nd Round, we already know that Ayr United have been knock-out in this round, but we had another 7 of our teams in action.  ABERDEEN are through to the next round after they won 3-0 at home to Dundee and have taken their goals tally to 16 goals. DUNFERMLINE are out after they lost 2-1 at home to Ross County. Dunfermline are on a total of 12 goals. CELTIC won 4-0 away to Dundee Utd and have taken their goals tally to 10 goals. HEARTS have picked up their biggest win of the season as they win 6-2 at home against Inverness CT. Hearts have taken their goals tally to 11 goals in three games. HIBERNIAN won 1-0 at home to PARTICK THISTLE and are on a total of 4 goals. Partick, after a goal run of 6 league/cup games, picked up their first blank of the season. STENHOUSEMUIR drew 0-0 at home against Motherwell after the full 90 minutes but then won 1-0 in extra time. Stenhousemuir are on a total of 10 goals. RANGERS picked up their biggest result of the season as they win 5-1 at home to St Mirren. Rangers have now taken their goals tally to 7 goals.

In League One EAST KILBRIDE have won their second league game, 3-0 at home to Cove Rangers and are now on a total of 22 goals and a goal run of 7 league/cup games.

In League Two, CLYDE have won their second league game 2-1 away to Annan. Clyde are on a total of 11 goals.

Our best performing team are EAST KILBRIDE after they have scored in all of their 7 league/cup games. With a total of 22 goals, their average score is 3 goals per game.

Our worst performing team is ARBROATH,  this weekend, as they have picked up four blank score sheets in their first six league/cup games of the season. They have a total of 3 goals and have just one vote.

Our highest goal scoring team in our 44th Season are LIVINGSTON. They won 8-0 at home against Forfar in the first round group stages of the Scottish League Cup in Week One

CHARLIE FARLEY is at the top this weekend for the second weekend running, after he picked up a total of 9 goals from the weekend. Charlie Farley’s teams are East Kilbride, Rangers and Stenhousemuir. He is now13 goals clear of  Guy Dowsett (2) in second place this week. Guy’s teams are Celtic, Clyde and West Ham.

At the other end at 124 we still have JOHN FILTNESS our joint 2023/24 Champion, for the second weekend running as he failed to picked up any goals from the weekend. John has Gillingham, Liverpool and Wrexham.
