England and Sweden in Quarter-Finals

The last of the sixteen games have now been played. The first game of the day was between Sweden finished top of Group F and Switzerland who finished runner up in Group E. Golden Goals do not have them in the tournament this time round but the game ended 1-0 to Sweden with the only goal coming in the second half.
In the last of the 16 games, ENGLAND runners-up from Group G with 8 votes took on COLUMBIA winners of Group H with 5 votes.  England had won both their opening games and even made history by beat Panama 6-1 with their biggest score in a World Cup. They lost their final game to Belgium. Columbian's lost their first game to Japan but won their last two games. The first half was all England really with Columbia having just one shot at goal as England kept up the pressure in the first 30 minutes. The Columbian's then started to get frustrated and suddenly yellow cards started to appear. In the second half things started to get out of hand but England kept their cool and in the 57th minute when England received a penalty. Harry Kane was the man that put England in to the lead with his sixth goal of the tournament. The Columbian's came back and started playing football instead of arguing with every decision the referee made. Things were looking good for England until added time of five minutes was awarded and this is where the Columbia's fought back with attack after attack, until the 93rd minute when they scored the equaliser by Mina. The whistle is blown and extra time for the third game in the last sixteen is played. Columbia took the first half of extra time while England took the second half. The result remained 1-1 after extra time and the one thing that we English like is a penalty shoot-out. But for the very first time in World Cup history, England won 4-3 to go through to the quarter-finals to play Sweden. England are now on a total of 9 goals while Columbia go home with 6 goals. That is their second best score in four World Cups with Golden Goals. In Brazil 2014 they scored their highest total of 12 goals after going out to Brazil 2-1 in the quarter-finals.
