Week Twenty-One


In Week Twenty-One of the competition we have started our second half here at Golden Goals and the good news is that we had a total of two winners this weekend to share the £10 Christmas Weekend Jackpot.  Both of them are first time winners this season and they were BRUCE SELF and our 2016/17 Champion JOHN WOOD. They won on a score of  14 goals each and it takes our winners total in our 36th Season up to twenty-four.
Bruce is in his twelfth season with Golden Goals as he started with us back in the 2006/07 Season. In his first season he finished in the winning frame in 18th place on a total of 260 goals. With one weekend win, Bruce won over £8 in cash. Last season he finished in 107th place on 250 goals. This season Bruce has been as high as 83rd place in Week One. With three blank score sheets at the weekend, Celtic is his best team.
John started with us back in the 197/98 Season where he finished on a total of 209 goals and finished in 87th place. John became Champion in the 2016/17 Season winning on a total of 344 goals and winning over £100 in cash. John’s score has put him in third place of our Champions League. Last season John finished in 115th place with 247 goals. This season, John has been as high as 109th place in Week Ten picking up four blank score sheets.Arsenal is his best team to date. 100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
Only six players failed to pick up any goals in midweek this week including me. It was SARAH MARSHALL that picked up the most amount of goals with eight goals which now gives Sarah a total of 29 goals. They came from Aberdeen 5 and Celtic 3. Manchester United is her third team. So the race for the cash has changed once again this week.
GRAHAM HARRIS is still out in front and is still the only player to reach the half way mark to the cash as he picks up two goals from Tottenham. Graham now has a total of 54 goals. His combination are Hearts, Tottenham and West Brom. In second place and still nine goals behind Graham, we have JOHN DAVIES now with a total of 45 goals. In third place with a total of 43 goals we now have ANN WELLARD moving up from fifth place. In joint fourth place all on 42 goals we still have JAMES BLYTH, JUNE TIGHE, and DAVE WOOD. In joint fifth place we have TERRY WARWICK down from third place with DANNY HARRINGTON and MARK GREGORY who have moved back into the race and they are all on a total of 41 goals.

 WEEKEND RESULTS
This weekend all of us have picked up some goals and what a crazy week we have had from our teams. Starting Christmas early, we had just two teams without a game this weekend and another sixteen teams that failed to score any goals. So the average score went up back up from six five goals from last weekend to 6 goals this weekend.
The highest score that we had this weekend came from the English Premiership where TOTTENHAM won 6-2 away to EVERTON. With their highest score of the season, Tottenham are now on a total of 44 goals and they have now scored in all of their last ten games.  Everton have taken their goals tally up to 30.
Tottenham are in their 35th Season with Golden Goals and they are one of our original teams from our very first season. They were our tenth voted English team in and they finished on a total of 71 goals. The season that they missed out on was the 2000/01 Season. Their highest score is 109 goals and they have reached that twice. First was in the 1986/87 Season and then again in the 2016/17 Season. last season they finished on 97 goals. This season they have picked up just one blank score sheet out of their twenty-one games played. They have a total of twenty-three votes this season. Over the years they have now scored a total of 2567 which gives them an average score of 73 goals per season.

PREMIERSHIP
We are down to the top six teams now in the prem with Liverpool remaining top after they win on Friday night. MANCHESTER CITY are still in second place after they lost their second league game of the season, 3-2 at home to Crystal Palace. City have now taken their goals tally to 56 goals. Tottenham are still in third place after their big win with CHELSEA still fourth after they lost their third league game 1-0 at home to LEICESTER CITY. As Chelsea pick up their third blank of the season, Leicester are now on a total of 27 goals. ARSENAL are still in fifth place after they won 3-1 at home to Burnley. Arsenal are now on a total of 45 goals. MANCHESTER UNITED are still in sixth place as they picked up their biggest result by winning 5-1 away to Cardiff. United are now on a total of 36 goals. After a three game dry spell for goals, BOURNEMOUTH won 2-0 at home to Brighton and that now gives them a total of 35 goals. FULHAM are still on the bottom of the league after they drew 0-0 away to Newcastle to pick up their tenth blank score sheet and now two in a row.  WEST HAM lost 2-0 at home to Watford and they have picked up their seventh blank score sheet of the season.

CHAMPIONSHIP
In the Championship, LEEDS UNITED are still on top here and one point in front Norwich, after they won 3-2 away to ASTON VILLA after being 2-0 down at half time.  Leeds have taken their goals total up to 41 and they have now scored in all of their last seventeen games. Villa have take their goals tally up to 46 goals. WEST BROM are now in third place after they won 4-0 away to ROTHERHAM. West Brom are now on a total of 53 goals while Rotherham picked up their seventh blank score sheet after a goal run of seven games. BLACKBURN lost 1-0 at home to Norwich and after a goal run of eleven games, Blackburn have now had a total of four blank score sheets. It’s 40 goals for BRENTFORD as they win 1-0 at home to Bolton. DERBY drew 1-1 at home to Bristol City and they are now on 42 goals. HULL won 3-2 at home to SWANSEA and they are now on 27 goals to Swansea’s 29. IPSWICH drew 1-1 at home to Sheffield United. Ipswich are now on a total of 20 goals but they are still bottom and now just three points behind Bolton. NOTTINGHAM FOREST picked up their fifth blank score sheet and now three in a row after they lost 1-0 at home to Queens Park Rangers. STOKE won 1-0 at home to Millwall and that was their 34th goal of the season. BIRMINGHAM are on 35 goals now as they win 3-0 away to Wigan.

LEAGUE ONE
We have the top six now here with PORTSMOUTH still top after they won 3-1 at home to SUNDERLAND in third place. Portsmouth are now on 45 goals and they have now scored in all of their last thirteen games. Sunderland are also on 45 goals. LUTON are still in second as they win 2-0 at home against BURTON ALBION. Luton are now on 48 goals while Burton picked up their fifth blank score sheet and now just one goal in their last three games. CHARLTON have moved up to fourth place after they won 2-0 at home to Gillingham and they are now on a total of 44 goals. PETERBOROUGH are down to fifth place as they drew 1-1 at home to Walsall to pick up their 50th goal of the season. BARNSLEY are now in sixth place after they won 1-0 away to Blackpool and they are now on 45 goals. SCUNTHORPE picked up their tenth blank score sheet and now five games without a goal as they lost 2-0 away to Bradford. BRISTOL ROVERS are on 25 goals as they win 2-1 at home to Fleetwood.  It’s 30 goals for ACCRINGTON STANLEY as they win 3-0 away to PLYMOUTH. Plymouth have now had eight blank score sheets. SHREWSBURY have extended their goal run to ten games as they win
1-0 at home to COVENTRY who picked up their seventh blank score sheet. SOUTHEND are on 40 goals as they lost 2-1 at home to ROCHDALE who are now on 36 goals. WYCOMBE lost 2-1 at home to AFC Wimbledon and that is their 39th goal of the season.

LEAGUE TWO
Top two here with LINCOLN CITY on top after they won 3-2 at home to Newport County. Lincoln are now on 51 goals. MK DONS lost 1-0 at home to Colchester to pick up their third blank of the season after a goal run of seventeen games. NOTTS COUNTY lost 4-0 away to Grimsby and that is their ninth blank of the season. OLDHAM lost 3-2 at home to EXETER. Oldham are now on 38 goals while Exeter are on 36. It’s 40 goals for MANSFIELD after they won 3-1 away to Stevenage. SWINDON drew 0-0 at home to Northampton to pick up their tenth blank of the season.

SCOTTISH LEAGUES
In the Premiership, CELTIC are back on top after they won 3-0 at home to bottom of the table Dundee. Celtic are now on a total of 50 goals. RANGERS are down to second place and a point behind Celtic as they win 2-1 away to St Johnstone after going a down down in the first half. Rangers are now on 48 goals. ABERDEEN are up to third place after they won 2-0 at home against HEARTS. Aberdeen are now on 34 goals while Hearts picked up their eighth blank score sheet and now two in a row. After a run of three games without a goal, HAMILTON drew 1-1 at home to Kilmarnock and they are now on 18 goals. HIBERNIAN drew 1-1 at home to Livingston and they have taken their goals tally up to 32 goals.   
In the Championship, ROSS COUNTY are now top here after they won 2-0 at home to Partick. County are now on a total of 41 goals. AYR UNITED are down to second place after they drew 0-0 away to Dunfermline. That was their fifth blank of the season. ALLOA won 2-0 at home to Queen of South to take their goals total to 28 goals while FALKIRK are still bottom of the table as they lost 2-1 away to Dundee United. Falkirk are now on 20 goals.
In League One, STENHOUSEMUIR are still bottom of the league after they lost 3-1 away to Montrose but they are now on 25 goals. RAITH ROVERS in second place won 2-0 away to Arbroath to take their goals tally up to 46 and they have now scored in all of their last nineteen games. DUMBARTON lost 1-0 at home to Stranraer and that is their seventh blank of the season.
In League Two, PETERHEAD are back in action and they won 4-1 at home against Stirling to take them up to 40 goals.

Our Best teams this week are RAITH ROVERS after they have scored in all of their last nineteen League and Cup games out of twenty-three played. They have a total of 46 goals which gives them a average score of 2 goals per game.

Our worst team is HAMILTON again this weekend as they have picked up a total of twelve blank score sheets out of twenty-three league and cup games played this season. They have now scored just one goal in their last four games.

Our biggest result in our 36th Season are now WEST HAM UNITED who won 8-0 at home against Macclesfield in the Carabao/League Cup Third Round in Week Nine.

KELLIE STRATTON is back on top this weekend after she collected a total of thirteen goals with nine of them coming from the weekend. Kellie has now been top for two weeks this season with her combination of Celtic, Manchester City and West Brom. James Sommerville is back down to second place after been top for a total of four weeks over the season. His teams are once again Ayr United, Celtic and Manchester City.
At the other end at 133 we still have John Filtness at the bottom for his twelfth consecutive weekend as he picks up a total of six goals for the week. He has now had fifteen weeks at the bottom and he is now twelve goals adrift this weekend. His teams are  Birmingham, Hamilton and Liverpool.
