So how did the voting of teams for this season finally end up. It was MANCHESTER CITY that picked up the biggest number of votes once again but they came in with just a total of 39 votes. Last season they had a total of 72 and scored a total of 106 goals. So this was no surprise that they would be the most voted teams this season again.
With our Scottish teams the highest voted team comes from the Scottish Premiership again and they are RANGERS with 54 votes which is a lot better than last seasons of just 16. Celtic could only pick up a total of 9 votes due to last seasons performance of just 81 goals.
The Scottish teams had another poor turn out this season with a total of just seven teams being picked. We have four from the Scottish Premiership, with just one from the Championship and two from League Two.
With the English teams things have changed as they always do in this competition. We have a total of 13 Premiership teams in this years competition with MANCHESTER CITY becoming our top team again this season. Next came MANCHESTER UNITED with 30 votes. They were our sixth most voted team last season with 12 votes. In third place with 29 votes we have LIVERPOOL. They were our second most voted team last season with 30 votes. In fourth place down from three last season is CHELSEA. They have 20 votes compared to 21 last season. Our fifth team is BOURNEMOUTH with 18 votes. They were our eighth most voted team last season with 10 votes.
In the Championship we have picked up 14 teams compared to 17 last season, while in League One we have 13 with 7 teams taken from League Two.
We have two news teams to join Golden Goals this season. They are SUTTON UNITED from the English League Two and KELTY HEATRS from the Scottish League Two. Both have one vote each.
Week One in our very first weekend of the new season, we are already starting to pay out the prize money as we had just the one winner for our first £5 weekend prize money for this season. Our winner is our 2017/18 Champion CHRIS BOLBERY who picked up this weekends highest score with a total of 8 goals. Chris is currently in fifth place in our Champions League after he won with a total of 334 goals. Chris’s teams are
BOURNEMOUTH – CELTIC 6, SUNDERLAND 2
WEEKEND RESULTS
The lower English leagues were all in action in our first weekend of the new season as the Scottish played their second game. We had a good start to the season with CELTIC picking up the highest score over the weekend with six goals. They won 6-0 at home to Dundee. Celtic who lost their first league game have moved up to fourth place and are now on a total of 7 goals. Celtic this season have only picked up a total of 9 votes which other players might regret as the season progresses. Last season Celtic scored just 81 goals. Celtic have been in every thirty-nine seasons with Golden Goals and this must be the lowest votes that they have ever had. Over the years they have netted a total of 3704 goals which gives them an average score of 94 goals per season.
