Sunderland Start Well

Our first English League game of our 35th Season was played on Friday night in the Championship where SUNDERLAND drew their first game 1-1 at home to Derby.
Sunderland started with Golden Goals back in our second season of 1984/85 where they were our 36th voted English team and finished the season with 52 goals. Their best score came in 1998/99 with 108 goals. This will be Sunderland’s 13th Season with us and it was eight years ago that we last saw them when they finished on 58 goals back in the 2009/10 Season. Over the years they have netted a total of 911 goals which gives them an average score of 75 goals per season, They have four votes this season and now one goal to their total.

Back to Win Again?

We have fourteen Champions playing in our 35th Season but we are missing our Best Champion Laurie King this season who has the record top score of 355 from the 2001/02 Season. That now means that we have four of the top five champions. In second place with 348 goals is Paul Davey from the 2013/14 Season. Third is last season’s champion John Wood with 344 goals. In fourth place is Mike Pepperrell with 338 goals from the 2002/03 Season and finally in fifth place with 332 goals is David Somerville from the 2009/10 Season.
We also have one of our two times Champion Phil Reeve winning in the 1987/88 and 2011/12 Season’s.

Scottish League Cup First Round

The first round of the Scottish League Cup has been played and they have once again played the first round in group stages. In our 35th Season we have a total of eight Scottish teams taking part and five of them played in the first round.
In Group A, FALKIRK finished in top position in this group after they had played all of their four games and won each game. They are the moment are our best team with a total of 13 goals.
In Group B, PETERHEAD finished in second place and won three out of their four games. They have picked up a total of 7 goals. ELGIN CITY finished rock bottom in fifth place after they lost all four games. They do have a total of 2 goals but they also have a total of three blank score sheets to start the season with.
In Group C, is the last of our Scottish teams to be voted in this season, RAITH ROVERS. They finished in third place in this group by winning two of their four games. They currently hold the record for the highest score this season after they won 6-1 away to Buckie Thistle. Rovers have a total of 9 goals.
In Group G, we had STENHOUSEMIUR who finished bottom of their group in fifth place. They won just one of their games and they scored 3 goals in this round.

The second round games, which will be back to the knock out rounds, are to be played on the 8/9th August with the Scottish Premiership teams. Falkirk are the only team to reach this season round which will include Aberdeen, Celtic and Rangers for our Golden Goals fans.

Just Seven Days Left To Join In

It’s been two week since the new entry forms went out and we now have a total of 117. We still need many more to beat last season’s grand total of 136.
Still top with the voting is Celtic where they have picked up a current total of 91 votes. Staying with our Scottish teams and there are still six at the moment Rangers have now picked up seven votes, while Aberdeen are now on two. Elgin City, Peterhead and Stenhousemuir all have just one vote each.
We now have a total of forty-three English teams with Manchester City still well out in front with 32 votes. They are followed by Arsenal and Chelsea with 21 votes each, with Manchester United on18 and Tottenham now on 17. Fulham and Liverpool have 16 votes each while Blackburn are on 10 votes. We now have thirteen out of our 35 Champions playing this season with John Wood last season’s champion, will be with us but he is still sorting out his teams.

Our First Up Date on Season 35

So the first week of the new entry forms being out and we have a total of 104. We still need many more to beat last season’s grand total of 136.
It has been very hard this season to give the players their selected teams and by the way the voting is going, you can see why. Over the years we have had four teams that have appeared in ever season and the good news is that they are all back in. The teams are Celtic, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.
Still top with the voting and smashing their own record is Celtic. They are currently on a total of 84 votes. That beats their highest number of votes from the 2002/03 Season with 70. Staying with our Scottish teams and there are six at the moment, we welcome for their first season with Golden Goals, Elgin City from the Scottish League Two with a single vote. After last season’s performance, Rangers have only picked up six votes, which could be their lowest on record while Aberdeen, Peterhead and Stenhousemuir all have just one vote each.
We had thirty-eight English teams with Manchester City picking up the most with 30 votes. They are followed by Arsenal with 19 votes, Chelsea with 18 and Tottenham with 16. Fulham, Liverpool and Manchester United all with 15 votes while Norwich have 9 votes.
It’s good to see Lincoln City back in the league two after they became National League winners after a stay of six season’s there. Also for the very first time is Forest Green also starting in League Two this season and it’s their first time in their history. Both currently have just a vote each.

We have eleven out of our 35 Champions playing this season but we do hope that a few more will join in. John Wood who was last season’s champion, will be with us but he is still sorting out his teams.

If you have been following Golden Goals over last season, you will know quite a lot of what goes on. So why not join in the fun this season. First Day Of Season 35

We have had a fantastic first day for the New Entry Forms for the Golden Goals Season 35. We have had the biggest number of entries ever on a first day with 74. Last season’s first day from that historic season was 44 entries. So could we be looking at another record breaking season? Out of the 74 entries, eleven of them are new to the competition and we would like to welcome them to their very first season.

So how is the team selection looking so far?
We have thirty-two English teams with Manchester City once again picking up the most votes with 26. In second place we have Chelsea with 16. Third place is Fulham with 11.
We have just four teams at the moment from our Scottish leagues with Celtic leading the votes again with 60. Rangers are second with just 3 votes.
We still have a long way to go yet but we need more players to beat last season’s total of 136 players although we still have a lot of our regulars to send in their teams yet.

We have had quite a few hits from abroad here on our blog and I thought that I would be a great idea if players from other countries who would like to take part could get their families and friends to form teams ie Team USA or Team Russia who are our biggest bloggers here.

Well if you would like to know more or to receive your entry form, then you can email me, Steve at goldengoals1983@gmail.com
