Lucky Holland

It’s another day at the Brazilian World Cup 2014 and no shocks here today although there nearly was for one of our nations.

HOLLAND was next up against MEXICO in which we knew that this was going to be a good game. HOLLAND had won all of their games from Group B beating, Spain, Australia and Chile and they then had the highest amount of goals from the first round with 10. MEXICO are runners up from Group A and they won two of their games and drew 0-0 against Brazil.
This was a very fast game again and in the first half it was all Holland, but it all changed in the second half as Mexico came out and scored in the 48th minute. Holland seemed to be playing against a brick wall as some great shots were saved by the Mexican goal keeper. With just three minutes to go in normal time I did think that the Dutch were out and Mexico would make history by going into the quarter finals. But in the 88th minute, Holland’s Sneijder equalised and it all started to go wrong for Mexico. In injury time 90+4 minutes Holland received a penalty and scored by Huntelaar. Holland go through to the quarter-finals with 12 goals to date. Mexico go home with 5 goals.
In the other game from the Second Round Costa Rica winner of Group D beat Greece runners up from Group C in another spectacular way. The game was 0-0 at half time but Costa Rica came on top in the second half to go one goal up. It was not till the last minute, that Greece equalised 1-1 and into extra time. With both teams having played with all that they had, it still remained 1-1 after extra time and so for the second time in the Second Round, penalties had to be taken. Costa Rica was up first and scored. With three penalties each the result was 3-3. Into the fourth penalty and Costa Rica score but Greece failed. With the fifth and final penalty for Costa Rica they scored and won 5-3 on penalties to go through to the next stage.
So the second Quarter-final game is confirmed as HOLLAND against Costa Rica to be played on 5th July.
Our goals total now stands at 99 goals for the tournament.
Best four teams to date are HOLLAND (12) COLOMBIA (11) FRANCE (8) GERMANY (7) Total of 38 goals.
The Second round games to play
FRANCE v NIGERIA, GERMANY v Algeria to be played on 30th June
ARGENTINA v Switzerland, BELGIUM v USA will be played on 1st July

Brazil through to Quarter-finals

This weekend we saw the start of the 2nd Round games of the World Cup 2014 and the first game up was between BRAZIL and CHILE.
BRAZIL are the winners from Group A and started off the tournament with a 3-1 win against Croatia. They  then drew 0-0 with Mexico and then won their last game in the first round 4-1 against Cameroon. CHILE are the runners up in Group B winning their opening game 3-1 against Australia and then knocked out Spain from the games winning 2-0. Their last game they lost 2-0 to Holland.
This was always going to be a great match between these two and both sides did not let us down. Right from kick-off it was fast and furious but it was Brazil that scored the first goal. Chile played very good football at times and they never gave up. Brazil had their moments but at times they seemed to slow down and that what’s cost them the game as Chile scored from a bad clearance near their goal. So after 90 minutes the score remained 1-1. We then went into extra time, which counts in Golden Goals. But still both teams were unable to break the deadlock and so into penalties. These do not count for us.
Brazil went first and scored but Chile missed their’s, both teams missed the next one and for their third penalty both scored. 2-1 to Brazil. The fourth one Brazil missed and Chile scored, with the last and final penalty Brazil scored and Chile missed by hitting the post with the shot just outside the Brazilian’s goal keeper reach. Brazil are our first team to go through to the Quarter-finals 3-2 on penalties. Brazil take their goals tally to 8 goals while Chile go out with 6 goals.
In the other game of the day, COLOMBIA took on URUGUAY.
COLOMBIA finished top of Group C by winning all of their three games in the first round. They first beat Greece 3-0 and then beat the Ivory Coast 2-1. In their final game they won 4-1 against Japan. URUGUAY were runners up from Group D and after losing their open game 3-1 to Costa Rica, they then won their last two games. 2-1 against England and 1-0 against Italy. Colombia won this game 2-0 and are on a total of 11 goals which now makes them top scorer’s for Golden Goals. Uruguay are our ninth nation to go out and they ended with a total of 4 goals.
So the first Quarter-final game is confirmed as BRAZIL against COLOMBIA to be played on 4th July.
So At the end of day seventeen at the World Cup, our goals total now stands at 96 goals.
Best four teams to date are COLOMBIA (11) HOLLAND (10) FRANCE (8) GERMANY (7) Total of 36 goals.
The Second round games still to play are
HOLLAND v MEXICO, Coast Rica v Greece to be played on 29th June
FRANCE v NIGERIA, GERMANY v Algeria to be played on 30th June
ARGENTINA v Switzerland, BELGIUM v USA will be played on 1st July

Day's Eleven & Twelve

In Day eleven we start  with GROUP G, where out of form PORTUGAL took on the USA. After a quick goal by Portugal in the first five minutes of play, The Americans came back fighting and actually went in front but Portugal equalised in the very last minute of injury time to draw 2-2. Germany are top here with 4 points, USA are second also with four points and 4 goals. Ghana are third with one point and at the bottom of the pack comes Portugal with one point and 2 goals. In GROUP H, BELGIUM picked up their 3rd goal of the tournament as they beat RUSSIA 1-0. In the other game, Algeria beat South Korea 4-2. So Belgium are top with six points and 3 goals with Algeria second with three points and then follow Russia with one point and 1 goal. South Korea are fourth also with one point.

So At the end of day eleven at the games and the end of the second games in the first round, our goals total now stands at 64 goals. We had five teams that have failed to score in their second game and they are Brazil, Italy, Mexico, Russia and Spain.

Best four teams to date are FRANCE (8) HOLLAND (8) GERMANY (6) COLOMBIA (5) Total of 27 goals.

On Day twelve we started the third and final games from Round one.

In GROUP A, The host BRAZIL took on the Cameroon’s and this should have been an easy game for them. But as always with football, things can and do not go to plan. Brazil went a goal up only to be cancelled out by Cameroon a bit later on. That was the first and only goal for the Cameroon’s as Brizil put the pressure on and won the game 4-1. In the other game MEXICO took on Croatia in their third and final game in this round and won 3-1. Brazil finished top of this group with seven points and 7 goals. In second place Mexico also finished on seven points but had a total of 4 goals. Croatia finished third with three points and then the Cammeroons with no points at all. We say good-by to Croatia and the Cameroon’s.

In GROUP B, HOLLAND beat CHILE 2-0 and finally but too late, SPAIN win 3-0 against Australia. Holland have won all of their first three games and have a total of 10 goals. Chile finished on six points and have 5 goals. We say good-by to Spain with three points and only 4 goals which is the worst they have ever had with Golden Goals. Australia also go home with no points but they have done well by netting three goals.

Our only team out at this point, which we already know is Spain from Group B with 18 votes.

So the games are starting to form as we get ready for Round Two of the World Cup finals. Game One is BRAZIL v CHILE. In Game Three HOLLAND v MEXICO.

There will be another up date as soon as I can.

In Group D, ITALY have knocked England out of the World Cup, no they did not play again, but we needed Italy to beat Costa Rica to have a slim chance of staying in the tournament. Colombia have now scored a total of 5 goals and are top of the group with six points. Ivory Coast picked up their 3rd goal and now in second place with three points. In the other game Japan drew 0-0 with Greece. Japan are now in third place with one piont with Greece fourth also with one point.
In Group D, ENGLAND needed to win this game to stay in the World Cup against URUGUAY but they lost their second game 2-1. After a great start with Itlay, England slipped back into the zone of playing like a Sunday league team. Still it’s another goal for England which gives them a total of two. Urugauay picked up their first three points of the games and are now on a total of 3 goals.
So At the end of day eight at the games, our goals total now stands at 48 goals. We have three teams that have failed to score in the second set of games and they were Brazil, Spain and Mexico.

Day Seven and Spain are out

Day seven at the World Cup and we are now starting to see some teams going out of the competition even though they still have a game to go in the first round. One of the Golden Goals teams went out last night with 18 votes.

In Group  A, Croatia beat Cameroon’s  4-0 to pick up their first points in the competition. But could it be too late for them. Top of the table in group A is BAZIL and MEXICO both with 4 points each. Third is Croatia with three and the Cameroon’s are out as they not only failed to get any points but no goals either.
In Group B, The shock of the day was of SPAIN going out. They have lost both of their games and have only picked up 1 goal as they lost their second game 2-0 to CHILE. This is the worst that they have performed in any Golden Goals World Cup finals. So as the table stands now  HOLLAND are top with 6 points and through to the next round, with CHILE second with 5 points. Both Australia and SPAIN are out.
So At the end of day seven at the games, our goals total now stands at 42 goals. We have had three teams that have failed to score in the second set of games and they were Brazil, Spain and Mexico.

Day Six

Day six we had the very last two games from the first round games from Group H. BELGIUM were first up and they wen t down 1-0 in the first half against Algeria but came back and won 2-1. Belgium have fourteen votes in this Wrold Cup and this is their fourth World Cup with us. The last time that Golden Goals picked them was back in the 2002 finals where they finished on their highest total of goals with six.
In the other game RUSSIA in their fourth Golden Goals World Cup drew 1-1 against South Korea. Russia have two votes from us and they were last in the 2002 finals picking up just 4 goals. The best that they have done was in the 1994 finals with 7 goals but failed to go beyond the first round games.
So At the end of the six day games, seventeen Golden Goals nations have now all scored goals giving us a record breaking total of 37 goals. We had two teams that have failed to score and they were Nigeria and Portugal.
Also last night we saw the start of the second set of games in Round One. The host nation, BRAZIL take on second place MEXICO from Group A. Both sides showed a little of what they could do in the first game, but last night both teams seemed to be a little nervous as both teams had to win. But that was not to be and the result was a very disapointing 0-0. Both teams picked up their first blank score sheet in these games. So Brazil remain top with Mexico second with the Cameroons and Croatia playing tonight.

Tuesday, 17 June 2014

Day Five

In Day five we start with the first Group G games with GERMANY playing against PORTUGAL. Since the reform of Germany, they have been with us in the last six World Cup finals and this year  they have a total of twenty-four votes. Germany have ended with  very high goals totals over the years with their highest score of 16 goals coming from the last World Cup finals. Portugal have eight  votes this time round as they play in their fourth consecutive Golden Goals World Cup. Their best is a total of 7 goals scored in the last two World Cups.
Germany played very well in this game and won 4-0 and they should of done as Portugal had a player sent off in the first half. Portugal have picked up our very first blank score sheet for 2014.
In the other game USA played Ghana and won 2-1. Would have to give Howard the USA goalkeeper the man of the match as he stopped all but one of the Ghana’s strikes at goal. USA have only one vote this time round but they are now playing in their fourth Golden Goals World Cup. Best that they have done is 7 goals back in the 2002 World Cup. So Germany are top with USA in second place followed by Ghana and Portugal.
In Group F the second game from that group was between Iran and NIGERIA. Nigeria are playing in their fifth Golden Goals World Cup and they have just two votes. They drew 0-0 in their first game and become our second blank score sheet to date. Nigeria’s best goals total is 7 goals back in our 1994 World Cup finals.
Argentina are top with three points followed by Iran and Nigeria both with one point each. Bosnia are bottome of this group.
So At the end of the fifth day games, fifteen nations have now all scored goals giving us a total of 34 goals to date which is a Golden Goals record. We have two teams that have failed to score and they are Nigeria and Portugal. Still a long way to go as we still have BELGIUM and RUSSIA to play tonight in Group H. The first News Sheet should be out very soon.
