News Sheet Now Out

As you can see that the next news sheet for Golden Goals is now out but it seems that a lot of the
e-mails that were okay last time are now bouncing back to me. So if you have not received your news sheet, please let me know.
Chris Challis is two goals clear of last weekend’s leader Colin Webb. But this could all change by next week as we have had some big results this week for the domestic cup rounds.
Last night we had more of the Capital One Cup Second Round with 5 of our teams in action. Out of them four have made it through to the next round. Biggest score of the night was from Aston Villa as they win 3-0 at home to Rotherham. Villa are now on a total of 7 goals.  Everton, Nottingham Forest and Watford have all made it through to the next round.
At this stage of the season, we still have 21 of our teams that have that 100% scoring record.
One thing that I did not publish on the new news sheet is the Midweek race for the £60 cash prize money. This is how it is looking at the moment.
In joint first place on 17 goals we have C. Challis and D. Goodson. In second place on 15 goals we have C. Bolbery, P. Hudson and T. King. In third place we have M. Harrington on 14 goals while in fourth place all on 13 goals we have G. Britton, P. Davey, G. Dowsett (2), C. Nunn and P. Reeve.

Bad night for our English teams

The next news sheet for Golden Goals will be with you tomorrow. I have just got to add the finishing touches tonight. You will also see that we will have a new leader in the competition and that is Chris Challis.
The table has really changed over the last two weeks and it looks as if it’s going to change again on our next sheet, next week.
To catch up with the football, we had a very disappointing game on Bank holiday Monday between Manchester United and Chelsea with the game ending in a 0-0 draw. Both picked up their first blank score sheet of the season.
Last night we had the Capital One Cup Second Round with 17 of our teams in action. Out of them only seven have made it through to the next round. Biggest score of the night was from Peterborough as they win 6-0 at home to Reading. Liverpool have picked up their highest score of the season with a 4-2 home win against Notts County. Leicester City also did well with a 5-2 away win over Carlisle.
In the Scottish Communities League Cup Second Round, all three of our teams are through to the next round. Wins for Morton and Queen of the South but Aberdeen had to win on penalties 6-5 against Alloa.

Back to work and Golden Goals

After a fantastic week’s holiday I have now got to get back into the football and what a couple of weeks we have had.
Colin Webb remained in second place for our week two on a total of 28 goals just one goal clear of second place Tony King.  Colin has in his combination CELTIC, PETERBOROUGH and WATFORD.
After a total of 17 games between our six Scottish teams, they finally picked up their first blank of the season as Aberdeen lost 2-0 at Celtic.
In their fourth game of the season Gillingham finally scored their first goal as they drew 1-1 at home to Brentford, but it still took them 40 minutes of play to score. Brentford came back in the very last minute of the game to pick up a point.
We had three teams to pick up their first blank score sheet and they were Bolton, Crystal Palace and Wigan.
Our top three teams in our second week were Watford (13) Peterborough (12) and Leyton Orient (12) total of 37 goals. At this stage, 26 of our teams have still that 100% scoring record.
At last the English premiership teams are in action and Manchester United picked up the weekends highest score with a 4-1 away win over Swansea.
We had our second winner of the season and they were Mark Unstead with a total of 10 goals. Mark has Man UTD, Rangers and Watford.

Doncaster's Day?

We only have one game for midweek this week and that’s between Doncaster and Blackburn who play tonight. Doncaster has only one vote this season and they have just two goals in their two games at the moment. In their first league game against Blackpool they lost 3-1 at home. They did better in the first round of the league cup with a 1-0 home win over Rochdale.
At the weekend we have our first full league fixtures for both North and South of the country.
Tony King won the first weekend prize money of £5 with a total of 11 goals. Who will it be this weekend for another £5?

NEWS SHEET 1

So the very first news sheet is out today and as you have seen that we have a clear leader with a total of 22 goals, Colin Webb. Colin has in his combination CELTIC, PETERBOROUGH and WATFORD.
At the other end of the table last season’s champion, Alice Stubbs is rock bottom but none of her teams have played just yet. She has CHELSEA, MAN CITY and MAN UTD.
Our top three teams in our first week are Leyton Orient (11) Watford (10) and Peterborough (10) total of 31 goals.
Gillingham are our worst team so far after one cup game and two league games, they have failed to pick up a single goal. They have just one vote this season.

WEEK ONE

It’s week one for Golden Goals and not a bad first weekend of football even though the English premiership has still yet to play.
We had seven teams that failed to score any goals and it looks really bad for Gillingham who have now picked up three consecutive blank score sheets in their first three games, which are two league and one cup game. Still the season has a long way to go yet.
After a two game dry spell, Wolves picked up their first set of goals with a 4-0 home win against Gillingham. Watford picked up the highest weekend score with a 6-1 home win against Bournemouth. Bristol City also picked up their highest score so far even though they lost 5-4 away to Coventry.
In Scotland no game for Celtic this week but all of the other five teams did score with Aberdeen, Queen of the South and Rangers all picking up their highest score to date.
So who are our top three teams in our first week? that will be Leyton Orient (11) Peterborough (10) and Watford (10) total of 31 goals.

More Capital One Cup games

In the League Cup first round games from last night, Leeds UTD picked up another two goals and into the next round as they win 2-1 at home to Chesterfield taking their goals total after two games this season to four. Fleetwood Town lost 3-2 away to Notts County but take their goals tally to five.

So the competition really starts this weekend and as I have said before, that the very first news sheet for this season will be with you by Wednesday 14th August.

Wednesday 7 August 2013

Capital One Cup First Round

Over the last couple of days we have had the start of the old League Cup first round games being played.
In this first round we had a total of 25 teams that have played so far with some more in action tonight. Out of them, 16 have made it through to the next round so far.
Once again we had some high scores from our teams. Peterborough picked up the highest score last night with a 5-1 away win over Colchester.  Charlton won 4-0 at home to Oxford. Preston picked up their first goal of the season with a 1-0 home win against Blackpool. Wolves have still yet too score as they went down 1-0 away to Morecombe.

Here we go!

The first news sheet for this season will be in your mail box by Wednesday 14th August. That’s when most of our teams have played it will only be the English premiership teams that have not. So all the games, from Friday the 2nd August up till Friday the 9th August will count as midweek goals. Saturday the 10th & Sunday the 11th August will start counting as weekend goals.

Our teams did fairly well over the weekend. Top teams Celtic got their campaign under way with a  2-1 home win against Ross County. In the Scottish Communities League Cup first round, we had four of our six Scottish teams playing and the best came from Morton 6-2 away to East Fife. Rangers are out in the very first round losing 2-1 to Forfar after extra time.
In the league, Leyton Orient got off to a flying start as they win their first game 5-1 away to Carlisle. Wigan won 4-0 away to Barnsley while Fleetwood won 3-1 at home to Redbridge. The team with the highest votes to play this weekend was QPR with 16. They won their first game 2-1 at home to Sheff Wed. We had six teams that picked up their first blank of the season. Two played each other and they were Preston and Wolves. They drew 0-0 in thier first game of the season.

The very first game of the new season will be played tomorrow night in League One between SHEFF UTD and Notts County.  We do have Sheffield United in this game and they have just two votes this season at the moment compared to 18 last season. They finished on a total of 64 goals. This will be their 14th season with Golden Goals and the best that they have done is a total of 104 goals back in our 2011/12 Season. If Sheffield UTD score any goals, these will counted as midweek goals.
