Week Twenty-Seven

RICHARD WILLIAMS has stayed at the top for four weeks now as his combination picked him up a total of six goals over the week. Three came from midweek with another three at the weekend. They came from Hibernian 2, Manchester City 1 and Rangers 1. Richard has now been top for a total of seven weeks as he was also top for three consecutive weeks from week fourteen to sixteen. Richard is still four goal clear of  SIMON DICKINSON who also picked up a total of six goals for the week. His teams are Celtic, Manchester City and Portsmouth. Both are the first players to score over 200 goals this season to date.

At the other end, it’s still STEPTOE & SON at number 119 for a third weekend as his combination picked him up just one goal at the weekend from Queens Park Rangers. Queens Park and Queen of the South both failed to score at the weekend. 

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
We had another thirteen players to score 50 or more goals this week bringing the total up to 58.
The highest score this week was a total of seven goals again and they went to BRUCE SELF. Bruce picked up his goals from Celtic one and three each from Manchester City and Tottenham. He now has a total of 45 midweek goals.
So this is how the race to £40 is looking this week. In the lead this week we have JAMES HUNTER who moves up from second place with a total of 65 goals. His goals came from Manchester City, Rangers and Wolves. He was one of the lucky ones to have all three teams in midweek action. Down to second place all on 64 goals we have JOHN DAVIES and DANIEL GOODSON both down from first place and DAVE WESTON moves up one to join them. In third place up from four last week is MARK UNSTEAD, now on 63 goals while in fourth place down from three is ADRIAN BEW on 62 goals. In joint fifth place both on 61 goals we have CHRIS BOLBERY and JAMES WISE both down from four place. In sixth place all on 60 goals we have RICHARD WILLIAMS who is a none mover with CRAIG EVANS down from four with TOM MACDONALD down from five. 

We had had four winners this weekend and they all won on a score of just 6 goals each which is the lowest score that we have had for this our 33rd Season. Our winners take a share the cash of £5 and they are all first time winners of this season. The cash goes to CRAIG ALMOND, MATTHEW DORAN, JOHN DOVE and ROBERT FREEMAN and so it takes our winners total to thirty-eight.Craig is in his very first season with Golden Goals and I would like to thank all the new comers for joining in this season. Craig has had a total of three blank score sheets to date and the highest that he has been is 40th place in week sixteen.His best team is Celtic.
Another first time player with us is Matthew and he has also had a total of three blank score sheets. The highest that he has been is 9th place in week one. Matt/s best team is also Celtic.
John started with us back in our 2007/08 Season and he finished in the winning frame in 16th place on 268 goals. With one weekend win, John won over £17 in cash. John has been in eight of the last nine seasons. Last time out in our 2013/14 Season he finished in 100th place on 193 goals. This season, John has also had just three blank score sheets and his best team is Everton scoring 64 of his total of 150 goals total. 85th is his best to date from week nine.
Robert started with Golden Goals back in the 2004/05 Season and he then finished in 31st place on 273 goals. Robert is in his 10th Season with us and in last seasons table, he finished in 60th place on 250 goals. This season he has had just one blank score sheet and this is his highest position to date. His best team is Celtic.

WEEKEND RESULTS                            
This weekend has carried on from midweek, not many goals flying around at the moment. The average score fell from five of last weekend to just 3 goals this weekend. Although we had eight teams that had their games cancelled due to the weather once again, twenty failed to score any goals.
The highest score that we had this weekend came from the Scottish premiership where ABERDEEN won 4-3 away to St Johnstone. The goals keep Aberdeen in second place in the table and they are now on a total of 44 goals. Aberdeen are our very first voted Scottish team in our first season of 1983/84 where they finished on their highest score of 112 goals. They remained with Golden Goals for fifteen consecutive seasons before they fell out of favour. They came back with us in the 2013/14 Season where they finished on a total of 69 goals. This is their 17th season with us and over the years they have netted a total of 1270 goals which gives them an average score of 74 goals per season to date. They have just one vote this time round. 

PREMIERSHIP
Leicester City remain top of the table as they they beat MANCHESTER CITY 3-1 at home. City have picked up two goals in two games this week and they are on a total of 71 goals and they are now down to fourth place in the table. TOTTENHAM move up to second place as they win 1-0 at home to WATFORD. Tottenham are on 54 goals while Watford picked up their 10th blank of the season and now two games in a row. ARSENAL are now third as they win 2-0 away to Bournemouth. Arsenal are on 46 goals. In fifth place is MANCHESTER UNITED but they drew 1-1 away to CHELSEA. United are now on 39 goals to Chelsea’s 45. WEST HAM are in sixth place but they lost 1-0 away to Southampton to pick up their 6th blank of the season. It’s two blank score sheets in a row for NORWICH as they lost again, 2-0 away to Aston Villa. Norwich have now had a total of nine blank score sheets. After a three game dry spell for goals, LIVERPOOL drew 2-2 at home to Sunderland and are now on 46 goals. It’s 30 goals for NEWCASTLE as they win their sixth league game out of twenty-five with a 1-0 home win against West Brom. EVERTON are a hot team of late as they win 3-0 away to Stoke to take their goals tally to 64. They have scored ten goals in their last four games.

CHAMPIONSHIP
HULL are top here even though they lost 1-0 away to BURNLEY. Hull have now had five blank score sheets while Burnley picked up their 51st goal of the season. MIDDLESBROUGH are second and after a two game dry spell for goals as they drew 1-1 at home to Blackburn. Brough are on 47 goals. We have three of the four teams in the play-off zone. Burnley and Brighton are two of them but so is DERBY. They drew 1-1 away to Fulham. That was their 44th goal of the season. Meanwhile BOLTON won 2-1 at home to Rotherham and are now on 33 goals. CARDIFF drew 0-0 wth MK DONS to pick up their 10th blank to the Dons 14th. BRISTOL CITY are on 28 after a three game dry spell as they win 1-0 away to CHARLTON. Charlton have now had a total of fourteen blank score sheets to date. After a two game dry spell for goals, NOTTINGHAM FOREST won 1-0 away to LEEDS UTD. Forest are now on 35 goals while Leeds picked up their 10th blank of the season. PRESTON won 2-1 at home to Huddersfield and they are now on 33 goals. QPR beat IPSWICH 1-0 at home to give them a total of 40 goals while Ipswich picked up their 10th blank of the season. WOLVES picked up their 9th blank as they drew 0-0 away to Reading. 

LEAGUE ONE
BURTON ALBION are still on top this weekend as they win 3-1 at home to Bradford. Albion are now on 42 goals. We still have two teams in the play-off zone with WIGAN moving up to third place as they win 2-0 away to SHEFFIELD UNITED. Wigan are now on 51 goals and they have now scored in all of their last nine games. United picked up their 7th blank and now two in a row. MILLWALL are also still in there as they win 3-0 away to Walsall. Millwall are now on 52 goals. Meanwhile PETERBOROUGH won 1-0 away to CHESTERFIELD to give them their 66th goal of the season. Chesterfield picked up their 12th blank of the season. It’s all going wrong for SWINDON as they drew 0-0 away to Gillingham. That’s now their 9th blank of the season and three games in a row without a goal. SOUTHEND are picking up goals now as they win 3-0 at home to rivals Colchester. Southend are on 42 goals and they have scored a total of eight goals in their last three games. It’s 49 goals for PORT VALE as they drew 1-1 at home to Coventry. 

LEAGUE TWO
Not many of our teams managed to play in this one Plymouth was cancelled and they are in second place. In the Play-off zone we have again two of the four teams. LEYTON ORIENT are one of them as they win 1-0 away to PORTSMOUTH who are our other team. Orient are now on 53 goals while Portsmouth picked up their 8th blank. STEVENAGE picked up their 9th blank score sheet as they lost 1-0 at home to Crawley. LUTON are on 48 goals as they win 1-0 away to WYCOMBE who picked up their 9th blank score sheet. Wycombe have now scored just two goals in their last seven games. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES
We had four of our Scottish teams in the Fifth Round of the WILLIAM HILL CUP and out of them only one had made it through so far. That team is CELTIC who beat non-league East Kilbridge 2-0 away. Celtic are on 74 goals and catching up on RANGERS who drew 0-0 at home to Kilmarnock. Rangers have then picked up their very first blank of the season and their goal run comes to an end. Also in a replay are HEARTS and HIBERNIAN as they drew their game 2-2 at home. Hearts are now on 55 goals while Hibs are on 53.
In the Championship, QUEENS OF SOUTH lost 1-0 away to St Mirren to pick up blank number eight while in the League One, STENHOUSEMUIR lost 3-0 at home to Dunfermline. That was their 8th blank and now two in a row. League Two, BERWICK drew 2-2 at home to East Stirling and they are now on 30 goals after a two game dry spell. QUEENS PARK drew 
0-0 at home to Elgin and that was their 9th blank and two in a row.

BOLTON have picked up the most number of blank score sheets this season with a total of fifteen out of thirty-four games played. They have now scored eight goals in their last four games.

The highest scoring team in our 33rd Season is now CELTIC from the Scottish Premiership, when they beat Hamilton 8-1 at home in a midweek league game in week twenty-five.

Once again with the lack of goals this week there was not much movement in the table/
