In the First games of the second round or
round of 16, the first game was between NETHERLANDS who were winners of Group A and
they have a total of 15 votes. They took on the USA runners up in
Group B. They have just one vote. It was the Netherlands that scored the first
goal in the 10th minute by Depay
his first of the tournament. They scored again by Blind just before half time making it 2-0. In the second half the USA
pulled one back in the 76th minute through Wright his first and last of the tournament, but the Netherlands
responded and score their third by Dumfries in the 81st minute.
The Netherlands go into the quarter-finals winning 3-1. With their biggest result of the tournament, they are now on a total of 8 goals. The USA finished with a total of 3 goals. They become our 11th nation to leave the World Cup in Qatar. The USA are in their 5th World Cup with us and their best World Cup was in the Korea/Japan 2002 where they netted a total of 7 goals. They went out in the quarter-finals.
In the other game of the day ARGENTINA winners of
Group C have 20 votes. They had to play Australia
runners up in Group D. The game was very evenly
matched in the first 35 minutes of the game before that man Messi scored his
third goal of the tournament. At half
time Argentina were in the lead 1-0. The second half started as the other half
finished and Australia was playing some good football. In the 57th
minute Argentina scored their second goal through Alvarez. Australia kept up
their pressure and managed to get a home goal in the 77th minute a
present from Fernandez. The final result was 2-1 to Argentina and they are now
on a total of 7 goals.
The first game of the quarter-finals is set between Netherlands v Argentina on the 9th December.
