Our Boxing Day Results

In the Premier League MANCHESTER UNITED won their 8th league game after they won 1-0 at home against NEWCASTLE UNITED. United hit goal number 34 and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. Newcastle picked up their 5th blank of the season. 

In the Championship, MIDDLESBROUGH are still in second place after they drew 0-0 at home against BLACKBURN ROVERS. Brough have picked up their 6th blank of the season and now two in a row. Rovers have also picked up six blank scoresheets after a goal run of 5 league/cup games. BIRMINGHAM CITY drew 1-1 at home to Derby and are on a total of 33 goals. IPSWICH TOWN drew 0-0 away to Millwall and that is their 4th blank of the season after a goal run of 7 league/cup games. LEICESTER CITY lost 2-1 at home against WATFORD and picked up goal number 34. City have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. Watford are on a total of 34 goals and have extended their goal run to 13 league/cup games. NORWICH CITY won their 5th league game 1-0 at home to Charlton. Norwich are on a total of 28 goals and have now scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games.  SOUTHAMPTON lost 2-1 away to Oxford Utd and are on a total of 42 goals. They have now scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games. After a goal run of 11 league/cup games, PRESTON NE drew 0-0 away to Stoke and picked up their 4th blank of the season. BRISTOL CITY won 2-1 away to West Brom and are on a total of 34 goals. WREXHAM picked up their biggest result of the season as they won 5-3 at home to SHEFFIELD UNITED. Wrexham have taken their goals tally to 41 goals while United are now on a total of 32 goals. 

In League One CARDIFF CITY are still top after they won 1-0 at home to Exeter and are on a total of 48 goals and have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. It’s 30 goals for BLACKPOOL after they won 1-0 at home to Doncaster. BOLTON WANDERERS won 2-1 at home against Rotherham and are on a total of 35 goals. HUDDERSFIELD TOWN picked up their biggest result of the season by winning 5-0 at home to Port Vale and have taken their goals tally to 44 goals and have now scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games. LUTON TOWN won 4-0 at home to WYCOMBE WANDERERS and have taken their goals tally up to 36 goals and a goal run of 6 league/cup games. Wycombe have picked up their 7th blank of the season. PETERBOROUGH UNITED won 1-0 at home against LEYTON ORIENT and are on a total of 27 goals. Orient picked up their 6th blank of the season. PLYMOUTH lost 4-1 at home against Reading and are on a total of 31 goals. STOCKPORT COUNTY lost 2-1 at home to Lincoln City and are on a total of 35 goals. 

In League Two WALSALL are top of the table after they won 1-0 at home to CREWE and are on a total of 36 goals. Crewe after a goal run of 6 games, picked up their 6th blank of the season. It’s 40 goals for BROMLEY in second place after they won 3-2 away to Bristol Rovers. Bromley have extended their goal run to 13 league/cup games. CHESTERFIELD won 2-0 at home to NOTTS COUNTY and are on a total of 41 goals and have extended their goal run to 17 league/cup games. County picked up their 4th blank of the season and now two in a row. GILLINGHAM drew 1-1 to Cambridge Utd and are on a total of 33 goals. MK DONS won 1-0 at home to SWINDON TOWN and picked up goal number 49. The Dons have now scored in all of their last 18 league/cup games. Swindon picked up their 5th blank of the season. After a goal run of 5 league games, BARNET picked up their 5th blank scoresheet after they drew 0-0 away to Newport.

Arsenal in Semi-Finals of Cup

 

In the very last game of the Carabao/League Cup Quarter-Finals, ARSENAL drew 1-1 at home to London rivals CRYSTAL PALACE. Then to penalties where Arsenal won 8-7. Arsenal are on a total of 36 goals and have extended their goal run to 17 league/cup games. Palace picked up goal number 26.

The Semi-Finals are between CHELSEA v ARSENAL and NEWCASTLE v MANCHESTER CITY.

In the Premier League, NOTTINGHAM FOREST lost 1-0 away to Fulham to pick up their 9th blank of the season.

Week Twenty

 

In Week Twenty of the competition, it’s half-time here at Golden Goals as we had our fifth Rollover of the season worth £10. We had a total of 3 players who had to share the jackpot this time round, and they were MIKE LIDDLE, our 2002/03 Champion MICHAEL PEPPERRELL and SAMUEL STEPHENS. All of our winners won on a score of 10 goals. That now means that we have had a total of 23 winners so far.

Mike started with us in the 1996/97 season where he finished in 92nd place out of 106, with a total of 206 goals. Last season he finished in 53rd place with 269 goals. This season he has been as high as 7th place in Week Two and this is his personal best weekend score. Mike has picked up just two blank weekend score sheets and his best team is Celtic.

Michael started with us before the 2000/01 season where he finished in 89th place out of 102 with 229 goals. Michael became Champion in the 2002/03 season with a total of 338 goals which puts him in fifth place in our Champions League. Last season he finished in 38th place with 280 goals and picked up one weekend win. This season Michael has had two blank weekend scoresheets and this is his personal best weekend score. His highest position is 12th place in Week Six. Celtic is also his best team.

Samuel started in the 2021/22 season where he finished in 29th place out of 113 with a total of 290 goals. He did pick up one weekend win. Last season he finished in 90th place with 243 goals. This season Samuel has been as high as 12th place in Week Eight and he has had a total of three blank weekend scoresheets. This is the second time that he has picked up 10 goals at the weekend this season. Manchester City is his best team.

Nearly all of us managed to pick up some goals this week, which means that our top five have changed slightly again this week. It was BARBARA BARNES (2) picked up the most number of midweek goals with 7. They came from Celtic, Manchester United and Newcastle.

In the lead this week we still have EMMAF now on a total of 47 goals. In second place we still have BARBARA BARNES (1) now with a total of 45 goals. In third place we now have SCOTT THOMSON (1) and down from two with a total of 44 goals. In fourth place with 43 goals we have HAYLEY ADKINS down from third place with a total of 43 goals. In fifth place we now have ALEX DAVEY up from sixth place with a total of 41 goals. In sixth place down from four we have DAVID BARRETT and coming into the race we have MICHAEL FISHER both on a total of 40 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had just 3 of our teams without a game over the weekend, with another 10 of them failing to score any goals. Well it’s about time that we had a decent weekend and just in time for Christmas. The average score last weekend was just four goals but this weekend it has shot up to 6 goals, which I think it’s the highest of the season. So if you have managed to pick up more goals than that this weekend, you have done well.

The highest score over the weekend was 5 goals and they came from two of our teams. They are COVE RANGERS and PLYMOUTH. Lets get on with the results to see how your teams have performed this weekend. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

We now have the top nine teams this weekend with ARSENAL still top of the league, after they won 1-0 away to Everton. Arsenal are on a total of 35 and a goal run of 16 league/cup games. In second place we still have MANCHESTER CITY who won 3-0 at home to WEST HAM UNITED and are now on a total of 48 goals and have now scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games. West Ham picked up their 6th blank of the season. ASTON VILLA are in third place as they win 2-1 at home to MANCHESTER UNITED. Villa are now on a total of 28 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games.  United are on a total of 33 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. NEWCASTLE UNITED drew 2-2 at home against CHELSEA and are on a total of 31 goals. Chelsea are on 38 goals. AFC BOURNEMOUTH drew 1-1 at home to Burnley and are on a total of 26 goals. BLACKPOOL won their 6th league game 2-0 away to Wigan and are on a total of 29 goals. PLYMOUTH picked up their biggest result of the season by winning 5-1 away to Doncaster. Plymouth have taken their goals tally to 30 goals. LEYTON ORIENT won 2-1 at home against Bradford and are on a total of 35 goals. STOCKPORT COUNTY won 2-1 away to Mansfield and are on a total of 34 goals. PETERBOROUGH UNITED won 1-0 away to Port Vale and are on a total of 26 goals. HUDDERSFIELD TOWN won 3-1 away to Rotherham and are now on a total of 39 goals. They have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. In the Premiership, top of the table HEARTS won 2-1 at home against RANGERS. Hearts are on a total of 53 goals while Rangers are on 31 goals. Second place CELTIC beat 10 men Aberdeen 3-1 at home. Celtic are on a total of 41 goals and have now scored in all of their last 11 league/cup games. It’s 30 goals for HIBERNIAN after they drew 1-1 away to Dundee Utd. 

In the Championship AYR UNITED won 3-2 away to Dunfermline and are now on a total of 42 goals. Bottom of the table ROSS COUNTY lost their 10th league game and now four in a row, after their 2-0 home defeat by Arbroath. County have now had a total of 7 blank scoresheets and now two in a row. 

In League One after they had failed to score in their last two games, STENHOUSEMUIR now in second in the table won 1-0 at home to Inverness CT and picked up goal number 28. EAST FIFE lost 1-0 at home against Peterhead and picked up their 5th blank of the season. COVE RANGERS picked up their biggest result of the season by winning 5-2 away to Kelty Hearts. Rangers have taken their goals total up to 24. 

In League Two, CLYDE in 3rd place lost their 3rd league game after they lost 2-1 at home to Stirling and are now on a total of 36 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 games. DUMBARTON drew 1-1 away to Stranraer and are on a total of 32 goals.

Our best performing team is now MK DONS after they have now scored in all of their last 17 league/cup games. With a total of 48 goals, their average score is 2 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is still COVE RANGERS this weekend, as they have picked up 11 blank scoresheets in their 23 league/cup games. 

Our highest scoring team in our 43rd season are ROSS COUNTY. They won 8-0 at home against Edinburgh City in the first round group stages of the Scottish League Cup in Week One. 

We still have HAYLEY ADKINS at the top this week as she picks up a total of 9 from the week. This is her 3rd consecutive weekend and now nine over the season. Hayley’s teams are Hearts, Liverpool and Manchester City. Vincent Cruickshank remains in second place this weekend as he picks up a total of 9 goals from his teams this week. Vincent is still just 1 goal behind Hayley with his teams Celtic, MK Dons and Southampton.

At the other end at 111 we still have ANNE HAMMOND making her sixth weekend there. Anne picked up just 5 goals this week. Anne’s teams are Crystal Palace, Rangers and Wolves.

Rangers On The Up

In the Premier League MANCESTER UNITED drew 4-4 at home against AFC BOURNEMOUTH and have taken their goals total to 32. Bournemouth, who had failed to score in their last two games, picked up their biggest result of the season and have taken their goals tally to 25. 

In the Premiership RANGERS have moved into third place after they won 1-0 at home against HIBERNIAN. Rangers are on a total of 30 goals while Hibs picked up their 6th blank of the season.

Week Nineteen

 

In Week Nineteen of the competition, we had a total of 8 players who picked up this weekend’s highest score of 7 goals each. That now means that we will have our fifth Rollover of the season next weekend, worth £10.

Most of us managed to pick up some goals this week, which means that our top five have changed slightly this week. In the lead this week we still have EMMAF now on a total of 46 goals. In sixth place we now have ALEX DAVEY down from five and our joint 2023/24 Champion JOHN FILTNESS down from fourth place. Both are now on a total of 37 goals.

We had 6 of our teams without a game over the weekend, with another 9 of them failing to score any goals. Once again there were not many big results from our teams but we did have a good weekend for goals as most of them scored a goal or two. The average score last weekend was five goals but this weekend it has dropped down to just 4 goals. So if you have managed to pick up more goals than that this weekend, you have done well. The highest score over the weekend was once again 4 goals and they came from three of our teams. They are CARDIFF CITY, CLYDE and CREWE.

In League One STENHOUSEMUIR lost 3-0 away to Montrose and picked up their 8th blank of the season and now 2 games without a goal. COVE RANGERS lost 1-0 at home to EAST FIFE and they picked up their 11th blank of the season. Fife picked up their 25th goal of the season. 

In League Two, CLYDE are in 3rd place after they won 4-1 away to Edinburgh City and are now on a total of 35 goals. DUMBARTON won 2-0 at home to East Kilbride and are on a total of 31 goals.

Our highest scoring team in our 43rd  season is ROSS COUNTY. They won 8-0 at home against Edinburgh City in the first round group stages of the Scottish League Cup in Week One.

We still have HAYLEY ADKINS at the top this week as she picks up a total of 7 goals all coming from the weekend. This is her second consecutive weekend and now 8 over the season. Hayley’s teams are Hearts, Liverpool and Manchester City. Vincent Cruickshank remains in second place this weekend as he picks up a total of 8 goals from his teams again this week. Vincent is just 1 goal behind Hayley with his teams Celtic, MK Dons and Southampton.

At the other end at 111 we still have ANNE HAMMOND making her fifth weekend there. Anne picked up just 2 goals this week. Anne’s teams are Crystal Palace, Rangers and Wolves. 

As you can see that we had a very slight change in our top ten this weekend as we approach half-time here at Golden Goals.

United Still 17th Place

In the Championship, after a goal run of 5 league games, SHEFFIELD UNITED lost 2-0 away to West Brom and picked up their 8th blank of the season. 

In the Scottish Championship, AYR UNITED lost 4-3 at home to St Johnstone and they are on a total of 39 goals.

Another Win for Walsall

In the Championship, it’s 30 goals for BRISTOL CITY after they drew 2-2 at home to LEICESTER CITY. Leicester are on a total of 29 goals. IPSWICH TOWN won 1-0 at home to Stoke and are on a total of 35 goals, and they have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. WREXHAM lost 2-0 away to Hull and that is their 4th blank of the season. 

In League One BLACKPOOL won their 5th league game 3-0 away to Rotherham and are now on a total of 25 goals. 

In League Two top of the table WALSALL won 1-0 away to Oldham and picked up goal number 34. CREWE ALEXANDRA drew 2-2 at home against Newport and are on a total of 31 goals.

Wins for Middlesbrough, Cardiff and Notts County

In the Championship, it’s 30 goals for MIDDLESBROUGH in second place after they won 2-1 away to Charlton. Brough have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. It’s 20 goals for BLACKBURN ROVERS after they drew 1-1 at home to Oxford Utd. It’s 30 goals for PRESTON NE after they drew 1-1 at home to top of the table Coventry. Preston have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. SHEFFIELD UNITED drew 1-1 at home to NORWICH CITY and picked up goal number 26 and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. Norwich have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. SOUTHAMPTON won 3-2 at home to West Brom and are now on a total of 39 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. WATFORD drew 1-1 at home to bottom of the table Sheffield Wednesday and are on a total of 29 goals. They have extended their goal run to 10 league/cup games. BIRMINHAM CITY lost 2-1 away to QPR and are on a total of 31 goals and a goal run of 8 league/cup games.

STOCKPORT COUNTY won 2-0 away to Doncaster Rovers and are on a total of 31 goals. LEYTON ORIENT drew 1-1 at home to LUTON TOWN and are on a total of 31 goals. Luton are on 28 goals. It’s 30 goals for BOLTON WANDERERS as they win 1-0 away to Mansfield. HUDDERSFIELD TOWN drew 1-1 away to Northampton and are on a total of 35 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. After they had failed to score in their last 2 league games, PLYMOUTH won 1-0 away to WYCOMBE WANDERERS and are on a total of 24 goals. Wycombe picked up their second consecutive blank scoresheet and now five over the season. PETERBOROUGH UNITED won 2-1 away to Reading and are on a total of 23 goals. 

In League Two, second place NOTTS COUNTY won 3-2 at home against MK DONS and are now on a total of 35 goals and a goal run of 12 league/cup games. The Dons are on are on 43 goals and they have extended their goal run to 15 league/cup games. BARNET have picked up their biggest result of the season by winning 4-0 at home to Bristol Rovers. Barnet have taken their goals tally to 29 goals. BROMLEY won 3-1 at home to Crawley and are now on a total of 34 goals and a goal run of 10 league/cup games. CHESTERFIELD drew 1-1 away to Cambridge Utd and are on a total of 35 goals and a goal run of14 league/cup games. After a goal run of 6 games, SWINDON TOWN lost 1-0 at home to Cheltenham and that is their 4th blank of the season.

 In the Premier League bottom of the table WOLVES lost 4-1 at home to MANCHESTER UNITED. Wolves after they had failed to score in their last 5 games, picked up goal number 16. United have taken their goals tally to 28.

Week Eighteen

In Week Eighteen of the competition, we had our fourth Rollover of the season, worth £10 and the whole lot went to our 20th winner of the season CHRIS BOOM. Chris now becomes the second player to win the Rollover in full this season.

Chris started with Golden Goals back in our 2008/09 Season and finished in 31st place out of 102 players with a total of 262 goals. Although Chris has not been with us in every season since then, he was in last season’s competition and finished in 47th  place out of 114 players with a total of 273 goals. So it’s nice to see him back and win some cash. This weekend, with his personal best weekend score, we can see Chris at his highest position this season. He has picked up a total of four blank weekend scoresheets to date. Manchester City is his best team this weekend. Chris’s teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

All but two of us managed to pick up some goals this week, which means that our top five have changed slightly this week. LUCIFER (John Wood) picked up the most goals in midweek with 10. They came from Brighton, Manchester City and Newcastle United. In the lead this week we still have EMMAF but she is now joined by BARBARA BARNES (1) who has moved up from fifth place. Both are on a total of 42 goals. In second place we still have SCOTT THOMSON (1) and he is now joined by HAYLEY ADKINS up from fifth place. Both are now with a total of 41 goals. In third place we still have DAVID BARRETT now with a total of 39 goals. In fourth place we still have our joint 2023/24 Champion JOHN FILTNESS but we now have COURTNEYP moving up from sixth place both now with a total of 37 goals. In fifth place, we now have ALEX DAVEY with a total of 36 goals. In sixth place we now have LUCIFER (John Wood) with a total of 35 goals.

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had 10 of our teams without a game over the weekend, with another 13 of them failing to score any goals. Once again there were not many big results from any of our big teams. The average score has remained the same as last weekend with 5 goals for the third weekend running. So if you have managed to pick up more goals than that this weekend, you have done well.

The highest score over the weekend was once again 4 goals and they came from three of our teams. They are BLACKPOOL, SHEFFIELD UNITED and SWINDON TOWN.

FA CUP 2nd Round

We had 10 of our teams in cup action this weekend, but only 4 have made it through to the third round. They are MK DONS who won 3-2 at home against Oldham and are now on a total of 41 goals. The Dons have now scored in all of their last 14 league/cup games. SWINDON TOWN picked up their biggest win of the season by winning 4-0 at home to BOLTON WANDERERS and have taken their goals tally to 38 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. Bolton picked up their 5th blank of the season. WALSALL won 2-0 away to non-league Gateshead and are on a total of 33 goals. BLACKPOOL picked up their biggest result of the season as they won 4-1 at home against non-league Carlisle Utd. Blackpool have taken their goals tally up to 22 goals.

Other teams that went out are WYCOMBE WANDERERS lost 4-0 away to Exeter City and picked up their 4th blank of the season. PETERBOROUGH UNITED lost 1-0 at home to Barnsley and picked up their 7th blank of the season. CHESTERFIELD lost 2-1 at home to Doncaster Rovers and are on a total of 34 goals and have extended their goals run to 13 league/cup games. LUTON TOWN drew 2-2 after extra time against Fleetwood and then lost 4-2 on penalties. Luton are on a total of 27 goals. STOCKPORT COUNTY drew 0-0 at home to Cambridge Utd after extra time and then lost 5-4 on penalties. As County picked up their 4th blank of the season, they have now scored just 1 goal in their last 4 league/cup games.

PREMIER LEAGUE

We now have only the top five teams this weekend with ARSENAL still top of the league, after they lost their second league game 2-1 away to ASTON VILLA. Arsenal are on a total of 32 and a goal run of 14 league/cup games. Villa move up to third place and are on a total of 23 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. In second place we have MANCHESTER CITY who won 3-0 at home to SUNDERLAND and are now on a total of 40 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. Sunderland picked up their 5th blank scoresheet. AFC BOURNEMOUTH drew 0-0 at home to CHELSEA and picked up their second consecutive blank scoresheet and now five over the season. Chelsea. after a goal run of 14 league/cup games, picked up their 2nd  blank of the season. NOTTINGHAM FOREST lost 3-0 away to Everton and picked up their 8th blank of the season. NEWCASTLE UNITED won 2-1 at home to Burnley and are on a total of 27. They have now scored in all of their last 12 league/cup games. TOTTENHAM won 2-0 at home against Brentford and are on a total of 28 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. We have not had a big score from LIVERPOOL since the start of the season, after they drew their second league game 3-3 away to Leeds Utd. Liverpool are now on a total of 26 goals. BRIGHTON drew 1-1 at home to WEST HAM UNITED and are on a total of 37 goals while West Ham picked up goal number 19. CRYSTAL PALACE won 2-1 away to Fulham and are on a total of 24 goals.

CHAMPIONSHIP

While Middlesbrough keep their second place spot in the league, LEICESTER CITY won 3-1 away to Derby and are now on a total of 27 goals. WATFORD won 3-2 at home against NORWICH CITY and are now on a total of 28 goals and have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. Norwich are on a total of 23 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. BRISTOL CITY lost 1-0 at home to Millwall and picked up their 6th blank scoresheet of the season. IPSWICH TOWN won 3-0 at home against Coventry and are now on a total of 34 goals. PRESTON NE drew 1-1 at home to WREXHAM and picked up goal number 29. They have now scored in all of their last 8 league/cup games. Wrexham are on a total of 33 goals. SHEFFIELD UNITED picked up their biggest win of the season, 4-0 at home against Stoke. United have taken their goals tally to 25 and have now scored a total of 13 goals in their last 4 games. SOUTHAMPTON won 3-1 at home to BIRMINGHAM CITY and are now on a total of 36 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. Birmingham picked up their 30th goal of the season and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games.

LEAGUE ONE

CARDIFF CITY are still at the top after they won 3-2 at home to HUDDERSFIELD TOWN and are now on a total of 40 goals. Huddersfield are on a total of 34 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. PLYMOUTH picked up their second consecutive blank scoresheet and now 9 over the season, lost 1-0 at home to Bradford City.

LEAGUE TWO

We had just one of our teams in action here and they were GILLINGHAM in 6th place. They drew 0-0 away to Colchester and after a goal run of 6 league games, picked up their 3rd blank of the season. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES

In the Premiership top of the table HEARTS, won 2-1 away to CELTIC and are on a total of 49 goals. Celtic in second place, lost their third league game and are on a total of 36 goals and have now scored in all of their last 8 league/cup games. RANGERS have won their 6th league game 3-0 away to Kilmarnock. Rangers are currently in 4th place in the table and they are now on a total of 29 goals. HIBERNIAN won 3-0 at home against Falkirk and are now on a total of 29 goals.

In the Championship AYR UNITED drew 0-0 at home to Partick and picked up their 6th blank scoresheet. Bottom of the table ROSS COUNTY lost 2-1 at home against Airdrieonians and are on a total of 31 goals.
