11 Days to go folks!

We are still having a very slow trickle of entries coming in and we have had just three more in since Tuesday of last week.  That now brings our total up to 60 and I would still love to beat our 1999/00 Season record number of 111 entries but that now looks like that record will now stand for another season.
We have had just seven of our past champions taking part in our next season and one of them includes me, so what about the rest of you out there?
Still out of the top 26 winners from last season, 23 of them are back in. In fact out of the top 50 from last season, 41 have come back in already but only 54 in total have replied from last season.
We have nearly had a total of 500 hits on this blog but still no-one to joining in. Would it not be great if you were the only person to represent your country? We have still had plenty of hits from USA and Russia but still, not a word. Well we can only hope that the outside world will take part in this unique competition Golden Goals as we now have only 11 days left for you to get them entry forms in.
The voting is still as it was really with all of our top six teams keeping well out in front. Celtic are still on 28 votes out of 60 while Rangers have picked up a few more and are now on 26. In third place now is Chelsea with 23 votes while Man UTD moved down to fourth place with 20 votes. Fifth is Arsenal with 16 votes and Man City now have 13 votes.

Celtic still lead

We are still having a very slow trickle of entries coming in and we have had a total of four from yesterday. That now brings our total up to 57 and half way to our target. Why only half way? Well I would love to beat our 1999/00 Season record number of 111 entries. It also means that more people that take part in this competition, the more prize money there is for you to win.
We have now had three new names to our list. Last week we had Tony Skinner and yesterday we have added Terrie Goodey and Mark Unstead. It’s great to see new names in the competition so I would like to wish them the very best of luck for the coming season and thanks for joining in with the fun.
So far we have had just seven of our past champions taking part in our next season and one of them includes me, so what about the rest of you out there?
Still out of the top 26 winners from last season, 22 of them are back in. In fact out of the top 50 from last season, 38 have come back in already. So where are the people that are looking at this blog but not asking about how much is it to join in and how can I get my hands on the entry form? Would it not be great if you were the only person to represent your country? We have had plenty of hits from USA and Russia but still, not a word. Well we can only hope that the outside world will take part in this unique competition Golden Goals.
The voting is still as it was really with all of our top six teams keeping well out in front. Celtic are still on 28 votes out of 57 while Rangers have picked up a few more and are now on 24. In joint third place now are Chelsea and Man UTD both with 20 votes each. Fourth is Arsenal with 16 votes and Man City still have that 12 vote.
We have an old team back for this season and they are Brentford. They were in our very first season with Golden Goals back in our 1983/84 season where they finished on a total of 84 goals. They have now been in our competition for a total of twelve seasons and their best was back in our 1998/99 with a total of 95 goals. Last time out was back in our 2004/05 Season and they finished with 68 goals. This will be their 13th season with us and for now just one vote.

Nearly half way to our target

There has not been much to report on lately as there has only been two more entry forms back in the last four days.
In the first week we had a total of 43 returned and last week we had just ten back. Still we are now on a total of 53 which nearly gets us to the half way mark to beat that total of 111.
In the voting of the teams, Celtic remained top with a total of 28 votes out of 53. Rangers are still second with 20 while Chelsea are third with 19 votes. Man UTD moved up to fourth place with 18 votes and Arsenal are down to fifth with 16. Sixth is still man City with 12 votes.
We now have four teams with five votes each. They are Liverpool, QPR, Tottenham and Wolves.
We still have 18 days left before deadline, so let’s hope that we can move this total up more.

More needed

We only picked up another three entries yesterday which now means we have a total of 51.
We had four teams that have played in all of the past 30 years of Golden Goals and the good news is that they are all back in again for this season. They are Celtic, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man UTD.
Most of our popular teams for this season picked up some more votes yesterday. Celtic are still well in front with 27 votes out of 51. Second is Rangers with 20 votes. Next comes Chelsea with 19 and in joint fourth place is still Arsenal and Man UTD both with 16 votes each. Man City is still sixth with now 12 votes. We have thirteen teams that have just one vote each.

Slowly Does it

We had another five entry forms back yesterday which means we now stand at a total of 48.
The blog is still picking up loads of hits as we are now well over 300. We still have no takers from the world outside and still no new members to date.
The voting of the teams has changed today.  Celtic still remain top with 25 votes now out of 48. Rangers are catching up in second place with 20 votes, Chelsea move into third place with 17 votes while Arsenal and Man UTD are in joint fourth place with 16 votes each and they are still followed by Man City with still 11 votes.
We have picked up Reading over the last few days. We did not have them last season but they have been with the competition for 22 seasons. Their best season with Golden Goals was back in our 2005/06 where they finished with 111 goals. Last time out was in 2011/12 with just 70 goals.
Portsmouth have only been with us for fifteen season and the last time that we had them was back in our 2008/09 Season with 40 goals. The highest that they have finished on is 101 back in our 2002/03 Season.
It will be their third time out with Golden Goals this season when Queen of the South take to our pages once more. They first appeared in our 1984/85 Season and finished with 56 goals. The next time that we see them was back in our 2010/11 Season with 64 goals.

It's been a long weekend

It’s been a week since the new entry forms went out and we stand at a total of 43.

We picked up just two more entries on Friday and nothing in the post on Saturday made it a bit of a dull weekend even though the sun was shining. Still we still have four weeks to deadline and I hope that we will beat our biggest entry of 111.
Although the blog has now had over 300 hits! We still have no takers from the world outside and still no new members to date. So come on, don’t be shy and represent your country in this unique football competition.
So once again, no real big change in the voting of the teams today.  Celtic still remain top with 23 votes out of 43. Rangers move in to second place with 17 votes, while in joint third place on 16 votes we now have Chelsea and Man UTD. In fourth place are Arsenal with 14 votes followed by Man City with still 11 votes. These are the only teams in double figures at the moment.

Golden Goals Friday

It has been a bit of a roller coaster ride in our first week since the new entry forms went out.
After a great start on Monday, it went down on Tuesday, came back up on Wednesday and then yesterday it went back down to just two more entries. We now have a total of 41.
Still we do have another four weeks to go before deadline and I know that there are a few of you that are away on holiday. Still no takers from the world outside and no new members as of yet!
No real big change then in the voting of the teams today.  Celtic remained top with 23 votes out of 41. In joint second place on 16 votes are Chelsea and Man UTD. Just behind them on 15 we have Rangers. In fourth place is Arsenal with 13 votes and Man City are now on 11 votes.

Golden Goals Thursday

Some very good news today as we had another ten people that have signed up again to play in this season’s competition. We now stand at a total of 39.
The most voted team is once again Celtic who have now picked up a total of 23 votes out of 39. Man UTD are still second but with 16 votes while Chelsea are in third place with 15. In joint fourth place with 13 votes each are Arsenal and Rangers. In fifth place it’s Man City with 10 votes.
Last Seasons champion, Alice Stubbs is back with us again to serve her second season with us. Alice wanted to have that winning combination of Chelsea, Man UTD and Rangers, but that selection has already been taken so Alice had to choose another winning combination. Alice has kept Chelsea but has now picked up Man City and Man UTD.

What's it all about then?

Well for those of you who have not played or even heard of Golden Goals, then let me give you some idea of what’s it all about.
The competition started in August 1983 for the 1983/84 Season. We had a total of 23 people that started in our very first season and over the years it has very slowly grown.
I thought that it was about time that the rest of the world should here about Golden Goals and give them the opportunity to take part in this unique competition.
The rules are very simple and all you have to do is to choose three football teams out of any English or Scottish divisions, except that you are not allowed to have Celtic and Rangers as part of the same combination.
These three teams that you have picked and are unique to you as you will be the only person to have that combination in the competition. The idea is that these teams will score a lot of goals throughout the season and all the goals count from League and the two domestic cup competitions.
You will be e-mailed a News Sheet every week which will not only give you where you are in the competition but what your teams are also doing. The more goals they score the higher up the table you will travel.
For a one off payment to the competition, there is prize money throughout the season. The amount of each prize money sections will depend on the number of people taking part.
Now if this has got you interested in what Golden Goals is all about, then please drop me a line at goldengoals1983@gmail.com where I will then send you on the entry form and what prize money you could win. It would be nice to see some people that have looked at this blog and thought what the hell! Be the very first person in your country to play in this unique football competition.
Could you be our 31st Champion?

Golden Goals Wednesday

Well after a crazy Monday when the form first went out, yesterday was the complete opposite as we only had three more to add to our total, which now gives us a total of 29 for the season.

But saying that the voting has changed just a bit as Celtic still lead with 19 votes with Man UTD now is second place with 13 votes. Chelsea moved down to third place with still 11 votes while Arsenal with 10 votes are in fourth place. Rangers come in at five with 8 votes. We now have thirteen teams with a single vote each. This will all change by the end of today.

Crazy Golden Goals Monday

It’s been a very frustrating day as the first lot of combinations come rolling in on the first day of our entry forms going out.
The popular combination is, so far, Chelsea, Man UTD and Rangers. For those who played last season, that was our Champion, Alice Stubbs winning teams and she wanted them again for this season to retain her crown, but John Morecraft had beaten her to the post with this combination. Others have tried.
Alice has picked another fine collection of teams and all will be reviled later.
We do have that fine set of teams that everyone is trying to pick they include Chelsea, Celtic, Man City and United plus Rangers. Another team that is also picking up votes is Arsenal.
It’s early days yet for which team will be our top team, with twenty-six forms back already, who knows what the next batch will bring.
If anyone knows any of our past Champions, then twist their arms and get them back in. We could do with more of our past champions in after all they could be our champion of champions.

GOLDEN GOALS MONDAY

Today is Golden Goals Day, which means that the new entry forms are now out.
If you would like to take part in this great football competition, then please e-mail me at: goldengoals1983@gmail.com
The closing date for our 31st Season is the 2nd August 2013.
