Golden Goals Winners From Brazil 2014

Here is the winner's list from Brazil 2014 and we ended with eighteen winner's and not fifteen. As you can see that I did manage to finish top with a record breaking 54 goals, beating Tony King's score of 52 from the 2002 World Cup.
My winning combination was BRAZIL, FRANCE, GERMANY and HOLLAND

As this is the very last posting for the 2014 Golden Goals World Cup, I thought that we might take a look at how some of the nations performed.
The host nation Brazil did not do very well in the tournament but it was their best total number of goals since the highest scored of 18 goals back in 2002 with 11. Holland picked up their highest number of goals with 15 beating their last record of 13 back in the 1998 tournament. Italy picked up their worst score with just two goals. In the last World Cup they picked up four. England and Russia both picked up their lowest score with just two goals each while Spain picked up their lowest on record with just four. Previous to that was six goals back in our 1990 World Cup. Uruguay picked up their highest score with four goals beating their only other appearance back in 1990 with just two goals. Germany picked up their highest with 18 goals to equal Brazil's record. Colombia picked up their highest score with 12 goals while Belgium cannot score more than six. Chile picked up their highest score with six goals beating their previous outing of five goals back in the 1998 World Cup. Portugal picked up their lowest score on record with four goals while Ecuador the new nation to Golden Goals finished on three goals.

Germany Are World Champions

First we had the third and fourth play-off where after a disastrous Semi-final against Germany, The host nation BRAZIL took on HOLLAND.

Brazil from group A started off their campaign very well from the first round by winning two of the games and drawing one. They finished top of their group and went in to the next round against Chile and drew 1-1 after extra time. They went in to the quarter-finals after winning 3-2 on penalties. In the quarter-finals they met Colombia and won 2-1 in a thrilling match. Then it went all wrong as they then lost 7-1 to Germany in the Semi-finals.
Holland had a much better start by winning 5-1 in their opening game against Spain and then went on to beat Australia and then Chile. Top of their group B, Holland then faced Mexico in the second round and won 2-1 after going down a goal in the second half. In the quarter-finals they drew 0-0 after extra time against Costa Rica and picked up their first blank score sheet. They won 4-3 on penalties to face Argentina in the semi-finals. This game also ended 0-0 after extra time and they then lost 4-2 on penalties.
There was still great hope in Brazil that they could finish third but that soon got taken away from them when a penalty scored by van Persie in the 3rd minute gave Holland the lead. Both teams seemed to pass the ball around a lot but no goals until the 16th minute when Holland go two up with a goal by Blind. As we have seen over the past four weeks none of the games have been very memorable and this one did not live up to its name either. Although Brazil tried to come back in the last few minutes, Holland scored their third and final goal in the very last minute of normal time by Wijnaldum. Result 3-0 to Holland and a total of 15 goals for the tournament. Brazil have been very disappointing over their last couple of games but they did finish with a total of 11 goals.

The final was played between GERMANY and ARGENTINA. Germany with 24 votes had won the trophy three times with the last being in our very first World Cup of 1990. Germany from group G won two of the three games while drawing the third. In the second round games, Germany beat Algeria 2-1 in extra time and then faced France in the quarter-final. A hard game for the Germans but they won that one 1-0. In the Semi-finals they played Brazil the host nation and won 7-1 in a very easy game for them to win. With 30 votes, Argentina from group F had an easy first round by winning all of their three games. In the second round they played Switzerland and won just 1-0 after extra time. In the quarter-finals they beat Belgium 1-0. Argentina had won the World Cup two times and their last was back in the 1986.
The game seemed to be evenly matched but again a lot of passing the ball with no real results. In the first half, Argentina had a goal off side and throughout the game never really had a shot on target. Germany hit the post just before half time. Nothing happened much in the second half and extra time had to be played to split these two teams. But Gotze in the 113th minute in the second half of extra time scored the only goal in this poor final. Germany are crowned World Champions and now for the fourth time. Argentina finished on 8 goals while Germany picked up the joint highest score of 18 goals the same as Brazil in Korea/Japan in 2002.

The best nations that we had in the World Cup Brazil 2014 are
GERMANY (18) HOLLAND (15) COLOMBIA (12) BRAZIL (11) total of 56 goals
We had three nations that picked up just two goals each and went out after the first round. They were England, Italy and Russia.
GERMANY holds the record for the highest score at Brazil 2014 with the 7-1 thrashing of BRAZIL in the Semi-finals.
The fastest goal was scored by USA’s Clint Dempsey after just 29 seconds of play against Ghana in their opening game in the first round.
So how did your teams do in the Golden Goals World Cup 2014? Below are all of our nineteen nations with the number of votes in RED followed by the nations and number of goals in each of the six stages of the World Cup.
FIRST ROUND
(18) SPAIN 4, (8) PORTUGAL 4, (4) IVORY COAST 4, (3) ENGLAND 2, (2) RUSSIA 2,

(13) HOLLAND 15

Argentina to play Germany in Final

Last night we saw the second match of the Semi-finals and what a contrast in play we had here against HOLLAND and ARGENTINA. Holland with 13 votes playing Argentina with 30, both teams have not played that well in this tournament but I was hoping that we would see the same fight between these two teams as in the Brazil and Germany’s game. But that was not to be as both teams seemed to be playing like school boys, kick and rush sort of thing. So after a very boring 90 minutes we went into extra time and after that it was still 0-0 and into penalties once again. I will not go into a long story over who did what, but the end result was a 4-2 win to Argentina. Argentina picked up their very first blank score sheet of the tournament while Holland picked up their second in a row.
So we can now confirm that in the 3rd and 4th play-offs to be played this Saturday we have BRAZIL playing HOLLAND and in the Final on Sunday it’s GERMANY v ARGENTINA.
Our goals total now stands at 120 goals for the tournament.
Best four teams to date are GERMANY (17) HOLLAND (12) COLOMBIA (12) BRAZIL (11) Total of 52 goals.
So who will win the World Cup Germany or Argentina? My money will be on Germany.
So this is what our top fifteen positions now look like after the Semi-finals.

Brazil's Nightmare!

Last night we saw the first of the Semi-final games between BRAZIL and GERMANY. Before the game, I thought that this game might go into extra time and then penalties. Oh How I was wrong, the result was a 7-1 thrashing to the host nation.
Brazil playing without Neymar through injury, and their captain Silva, who was suspended for the game felt that they could still win the World Cup at home. The first ten minutes got off very well for the Brazilians but in the 11th minute of the first half, things look very different as Muller scored for Germany. In the next 18 minutes, Brazil collapsed as Germany went 5-0 up in less than 30 minutes with goals scored in the 23rd, 24th, 26th and the 29th. After half time the Brazilians came out fighting but the Germanys were really on form or was it that Brazil made them look good. But Germany were not finished with two more goals in the 68th and 79th minutes both scored by Schurrle. With the home crowd booing their team, Oscar scored in the 90th minute leaving them well and truly beat. Never have Brazil been beaten by such a high score in a World Cup Tournament. Brazil has a total of 11 goals.
Germany took their goals tally to 17 goals and are now our best team of the World Cup. But this is not Germany’s highest score with Golden Goals. In the Korea/Japan 2002 Germany won 8-0 in their opening game against Saudi Arabia. From there they made it to the finals to get beaten by Brazil 2-0. Isn’t football a funny old game?
Our goals total now stands at 112 goals for the tournament.
Best four teams to date are GERMANY (17) HOLLAND (12) COLOMBIA (12) BRAZIL (11) Total of 52 goals.
So who will join Germany in the Final, Argentina or Holland?

We had seven of the eight teams that were to play in the Quarter-finals of the World Cup and the draw looked very promising.  The first game up was between FRANCE with 11 votes against GERMANY with 24 votes. The game stated off very well but when the Germans scored in the 12th minute, the game seemed to go very stale. Both teams did not perform very well on the day although we must take the heat in to consideration. Not a very good game to watch but Germany are now on 10 goals and keep their 100% goal scoring record going. France went out with 10 goals.
The BRAZIL and COLOMBIA was a completely a different game and was fantastic to watch Brazil warming up at last. Brazil have a total of 45 votes while Colombia had 5 votes. The game really was end to end stuff and it was Brazil that took the lead in the 7th minute but we had to wait till the 68th minute for Brazil to go 2-0 up. Colombia then had to fight back and received a penalty in the 80th minute and scored. The 2-1 by Brazil means that they will face Germany in the Semi-finals. Brazil have a total of 10 goals while Colombia go out with a total of 12 goals.
ARGENTINA with 30 votes took on BELGIUM with 14 votes and another disappointing game, where both teams failed to give their best. In the end Argentina scored and won 1-0 in the 8th minute of play. Belgium go out with their first blank score sheet of the tournament with 6 goals. Argentina are now on 8 goals and have a 100% scoring record.
HOLLAND with 13 votes faced COSTA RICA, this was always going to be a tough game for Holland as Costa Rica have played very well till then. With all the extra time in the Second Round that we had, this was the only game to go into extra time and penalties after a 0-0 draw. Holland made sure that they were the last nation to go through to the Semi-finals and won 4-3 on penalties. This was Holland’s first blank score sheet and they have a total of 12 goals.
Our goals total now stands at 112 goals for the tournament.
Best four teams to date are HOLLAND (12) COLOMBIA (12) BRAZIL (10) GERMANY (10) Total of 44 goals.
We have all four nations in the Semi-finals from the Golden Goals collection of teams.
They are BRAZIL v GERMANY, HOLLAND v ARGENTINA
