Last of the Second Round Games

Last night we saw the last of the Second Round games and the good news is that Golden Goals has seven of the eight nations that have made it through to the Quarter-finals.
ARGENTINA are the winners from Group F and they had won all of their three games from the first round. They took on the runners up from Group E Switzerland.  They had started off this tournament very well in the first round. They won their first and last games but lost their second game 5-2 to France. The game ended 0-0 in normal time and Extra time was played. But the Swiss had put everything into the first 90 minutes that they could not keep up with Argentina. In the end Argentina won just 1-0 and that took their goals tally to 7 goals and a 100% scoring record.
In the other game of the day, BELGIUM winners of Group H played the runners up of Group G USA. Belgium had also won all of their first three games from Round One and looked very good in all three games. But you could not take away the Guts from the American team. They had won their first game, drew the second and lost their last game against Germany. This match was very much a packed game. The USA had most of the first half while the Belgium’s did a lot better in the second half but the result also ended 0-0. So once again extra time was played and Belgium went 2-0 up in the first half of extra time. The American’s fought back and scored their 5th of the tournament and nearly scored again a few seconds later. But the Belgium’s have made it to the Quarter-finals by winning 2-1. Belgium have taken their goals total to 6 goals.
So the last Quarter-final game is confirmed as ARGENTINA against BELGIUM to be played on 5th July.
Our goals total now stands at 107 goals for the tournament.
Best four teams to date are HOLLAND (12) COLOMBIA (11) FRANCE (10) GERMANY (9) Total of 42 goals.
We have seven of the eight nations through to the Quarter-finals from the Golden Goals collection of teams.
They are BRAZIL v COLOMBIA, FRANCE v GERMANY, HOLLAND v COSTA RICA, ARGENTINA v BELGIUM
