The final whistle has now been blown on our historic 36th
Season of Golden Goals
and what a great season it was for goals. But it was not the season that we managed
to beat our highest ever recorded number of entries with 149 from last season.
The success of this season was all down to you. The good news is that we do not
have to wait long for the next season to start. Although we once again lost a
few friends this season, we have also gained some new ones. Lets hope that we
can continue with this nice run as we have had a lot of success over our full
36 year history of Golden Goals.
This season we have had a few records that have been broken this season, but
more on this later. I hope that you have had a lot of fun watching your name go
up and down the table and as shown above is where your combination of teams
have left you standing in the final position of the season. But before we go
all into that, lets take a look at what happened to the last few games of the
season.
Scottish WILLIAM HILL Cup Final
Champions CELTIC won the Scottish Cup final for the 39th time after they beat HEARTS 2-1 at Hampden Park to become the first Scottish team to win three successive
domestic Trebles. All of the goals came in the second half where Hearts
scored in the 52nd minute from Edwards. Celtic’s goals came in the 62nd
minute with a penalty scored by Edouard. Edouard scored his and Celtic’s second
goal in the 82nd minute. Hearts finished on a total of 72 goals,
which is the same amount of goals when we last saw Hearts in the 2015/16
Season. Their highest score came a season earlier in the 2014/15 Season with 98
goals. They had just one vote this season. Celtic became our second team this
season to finish on 100 goals. They have now scored 100 or more goals in nine
consecutive seasons. They finished the season nine points clear of second place
Rangers in the Premiership. They had a total of 70 votes this season.
Championship
Play-Off Final
DERBY went a goal
down against ASTON VILLA in a very
poor first half with a goal from El Ghazi.
In the second half, Villa scored their second goal in the 59th
minute from Mc Ginn but it took Derby a hell of a long time to get into this
game and scored in the 81st minute from Waghorn. From then on it was
end to end but the score remained 2-1 to Villa after the final whistle. Villa
finished the season on a total of 87 goals, which is a Golden Goals record for
them. They beat their previous highest score of 80 goals from the 2009/10 and
last season of 2017/18. They had a total of six votes this season. Derby picked
up goal number 90 which is their best in our last three seasons. They had a
total of ten votes
League
One Play-Off Final
CHARLTON scored all
three goals in this final, starting with a og from Sorr in the first five
minutes of play to give SUNDERLAND the
lead. Charlton came back to level the score 1-1 at half time with a goal from
Purrington in the 35th minute. The game looked as if extra time was
needed to separate these two teams, but Bauer for Charlton scored in the fourth
minute of added on time to win 2-1. Charlton finished on a total of 85 goals
and had scored in all of their last eleven games. It was their best season
since the 2011/12 with 90 goals. They
had four votes this season. Sunderland also finished on a total of 85 which is
their best since their highest score of 108 goals in the 1998/99 Season. They
had a total of 13 votes this season.
So it’s Congratulations to KELLIE
STRATTON as she now becomes our 36th Champion with Golden
Goals staying
at the top for the last two weeks and ten over the season. She has taken
the winning prize money of a total of
£100 and also picked up one weekends win with a Rollover in Week Three taking her
final lump sum to £112 in cash. We can now add kellie’s name in our history book and in the
Champions League where she finished in 7th place on 331 goals and
becomes our fifth lady to do so. Kellie had the winning combination of CELTIC
(100) MANCHESTER CITY (137) and WEST BROM (94). Just two of her teams
finished in our top best three teams and they were Manchester City and Celtic. Kellie
picked up only four blank score sheets throughout the season and her highest
score was 16 goals in Week Three. In the end she finished just one goal clear
of Bob sawyer who finally finished in second
place with a total of 330 goals.
ROAD TO CHAMPION
So our new Champion’s name, KELLIE STRATTON
is now in our history book, but what about the other people who managed to get
to that magic number one spot. We had a total of just eight players that made
it there is season. We already know that Kellie was at the top for nine weeks who
stayed there the longest. Next came GRAHAM
HARRIS with eight weeks staying there in our first three weeks of the
season. He was also there from weeks 5 to 7 and then another run from weeks 10 and
11. We then had GARY BROWN and JAMIE WOOD
with seven weeks each. Next with six weeks came BOB SAWYER starting from week 31. while JAMES SOMERVILLE was there for four weeks. We then had two players
that picked up a single week each. They were MICHAEL FISHER in week 25 of the season and DAVID
BARRETT in week 32.
Below is the list of our top five champions of Golden Goals.

At the other end of the table, we had six players that landed on that
rotten number of 133. GRAEME BRITTON
holds the record for the best of our losers league with 214 goals from our
2004/05 season. The player who finished rock bottom this season was JOHN FILTNESS. John was there for a total of thirty-seven weeks

107 goals, JUNE TIGHE with 106 and KELLIE STRATTON with 104 goals. Daryl
Nicholls holds the highest midweek record

BEAT THE SCORE
The fantastic sum of £65 cash prize
money for BEAT THE SCORE has not been picked up once again
this season. The prize money will go to the first person who scores 19 goals or
more at the weekend. So I hope that we can add more cash to the pot next season.
The holder of this record is Mark Rymer with 18 goals scored way back in our
1998/99 season, so it’s about time that some-one beat that score?
THE BEST THREE TEAMS FINISHED AS
MANCHESTER CITY (137) CELTIC (100) RANGERS (98) Total of 335 goals.
We had just two teams this season that picked up 100 or more goals. They were

seasons they have been with us. That now gives them an average score of 97
goals per season. The third best team was RANGERS
who finished on a total of 98 goals which is the same as last seasons total.

HAMILTON (33) IPSWICH (37) FULHAM (40) Total of 110 goals.
Well our worst team for this season finished with just 33 goals in their 4th

worst score by beating their lowest score of 40 goals scored in the season of 1999/00.
