Week Twenty-Nine

Here we are with Week Twenty-Nine of the competition and we had a total of three winners to share the cash prize money of £5 once again this week. They all won on a score of  9 goals each. Two are first time winners of the season which takes our winners total to 27. Our winners are GEOFF DOCKERILL, MANGO and ALICE STUBBS.

It was Mango (Paul Moran) that picked up his second win of the season. Paul last won in Week Fifteen on a score of 12 goals. Paul has still only had two blank weekend score sheets and his highest position is second place in Week Twenty-Two.

Geoff started with us way back in the 1990/91 Season on where he finished in 30th place with a total of 232 goals. Geoff became Champion in the 1994/95 Season with a total of 274 goals and he is in 37th place in our Champions League. Last season he finished in 97th place with a total of 230 goals. He also picked up one weekend win which was a rollover. This season he has been as high as 8th place in Weeks Twenty and Twenty-One. Geoff has had three blank weekend score sheets.

Alice started with Golden Goals back in the 2012/13 Season on where she became Champion with a total of 318 goals. Alice is currently in 13th place in our Champions League. Last season she finished in 72nd place with a total of 252 goals. This season Alice has been as high as 22nd place in Week Three. She has picked up a total of six blank weekend score sheets to date. 100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Only 22 of us have managed to pick up some midweek goals again this week with another small change in the leading pack this week as we had another 2 players to reach that half-way mark which now gives us a total of 49 players are now over the half way mark for the £40 cash prize money.

We still have COLIN WEBB out in front now on a total of 70 goals. His teams are Celtic, Liverpool and Manchester United. In second place we still have (me) STEVE REEVE now with a total of 68 goals. In third place down from two we have JAMES BLYTH with a total of 67 goals. In fourth place both down from three we have FIONA CARHTY with BRUCE SELF both with a total of 65 goals. In fifth place down from four we have CHRIS DICKER now on a total of 65 goals. In sixth place all with a total of 63 goals we have HAYLEY ADKINS down from four, TOBY BICKNELL our 2014/15 Champion has come back in with KEITH THOMSON who has remained at six. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had all but eight of our teams in action and out of the them 11 failed to score any goals. We had a much better weekend for goals as the average score moved up from three last weekend to 5 goals this weekend. So if you did better than that, well done. 

The highest result that we had came from the Scottish Premiership where CELTIC won 5-1 at home to St Mirren in the cup.  

PREMIER LEAGUE

Top of the table ARSENAL drew 1-1 at home to Brentford and picked up their 50th goal of the season after they had failed to score in their last two games. MANCHESTER CITY are now 3 points behind as they win 3-1 at home against ASTON VILLA. City are now on a total of 66 goals while Villa picked up goal number 33 and a goal run of eleven games now. MANCHESTER UNITED are still in third place after they won 2-0 away to LEEDS UNITED. United are on a total of 58 goals and a goal run of twenty-one games. WEST HAM drew 1-1 at home to London rivals CHELSEA. West Ham are on a total of 24 goals while Chelsea are on 23. CRYSTAL PALACE drew 1-1 at home to BRIGHTON to take their goals total to 23. Brighton are on 52 goals and a goal run of nine games. FULHAM won 2-0 at home to Nottingham Forest to take their goals tally to 40. LEICESTER CITY picked up another four goals in their 4-1 home win against TOTTENHAM. City are now on  a total of 44 goals. Tottenham hit goal number 46. BOURNEMOUTH drew 1-1 at home to NEWCASTLE and they are on a total of 28 goals to Newcastle’s total of 44 goals. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

Top of the table BURNLEY won 3-0 at home to Preston and they have taken their goals tally to 71 goals. SHEFFIELD UNITED in second place won 3-0 at home to SWANSEA CITY. United are now on a total of 59 goals while Swansea picked up their 8th blank of the season after a goal run of nine games.

In the Play-Offs MIDDLESBROUGH in third place won 3-1 away to Cardiff. Brough are now on a total of 51 goals. LUTON are in fourth place as they drew 1-1 away to Coventry and they are on a total of 45 goals. WATFORD are down to sixth place after they drew again, 1-1 away to Blackburn. Watford are on a total 37 goals.

Meanwhile NORWICH lost 1-0 away to Bristol City and that is their 9th blank of the season and now two in a row. HUDDERSFIELD lost 1-0 away to Wigan and picked up their 12th blank score sheet. SUNDERLAND won 1-0 at home to READING and are on a total of 48 goals and they have now scored in all of their last fourteen games. Reading picked up their 10th blank of the season. 

LEAGUE ONE

PLYMOUTH have moved back to the top of the table after they won 3-1 at home to Portsmouth. Plymouth are now on a total of 55 goals. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY dropped back down to second place after they drew 2-2 away to IPSWICH. Wednesday are on a total of 63 goals while Ipswich have taken their goals tally to 68.

In the Play-Offs we still have Ipswich in third place with DERBY are down to fifth place after they lost 3-2 away to Wycombe’ Derby are on a total of 62 goals.

Meanwhile CHARLTON lost 2-1 at home to Fleetwood and they are on a total of 54 goals. LINCOLN CITY won 1-0 at home to BRISTOL ROVERS and they are on a total of 37 goals. Rovers picked up their 8th blank of the season and now two games in a row. MK DONS drew 1-1 at home to OXFORD UNITED and they are on a total of 41 goals. Oxford picked up their 43rd goal and now just 2 goals in their last five games. FOREST GREEN ROVERS are rooted to the bottom of the table after they drew 1-1 away to Morecambe. They are on a total of 32 goals. PETERBOROUGH picked up their 8th blank of the season after they lost 5-0 at home against Bolton. 

LEAGUE TWO

The highest teams that we have in this league are all in the Play-Offs. They are SALFORD CITY still in fifth place after they lost 1-0 away to Tranmere. Salford after a goal run of eleven games, picked up their 10th blank of the season. MANSFIELD TOWN are still in sixth place after they won 2-0 at home to GILLINGHAM.  Mansfield are now on a total of 46 goals and a goal run of eight games Gillingham picked up their 20th blank of the season. STOCKPORT COUNTY are still in seventh place after they won 3-1 away to Harrogate. Stockport have taken their goals tally to 53.

Meanwhile AFC WIMBELDON drew 0-0 at home to Carlisle and that is their 13th blank of the season and now just one goal in their last five games. CRAWLEY TOWN drew 2-2 at home to Crewe and they are on a total of 36 goals. It’s 30 goals for SUTTON UNITED after they drew 2-2 away to Hartlepool. BRADFORD CITY won 3-2 away to Stevenage and they have taken their goals tally to 37. SWINDON lost 2-0 at home to Doncaster and that is their 11th  blank of the season. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUE RESULTS

In the SCOTTISH CUP fifth round, we had just three of our team in this round and they are all through to the quarter-finals. We already know about Hearts getting through but Champions CELTIC won 5-1 at home against 10 men St Mirren. The goals have now taken them up to 98. They have now scored in all of their last twenty-two games. RANGERS won 3-2 at home to Partick Thistle. Rangers are now on a total of 68 goals and a goal run of twenty-three games now.  

In League Two STENHOUSEMUIR drew 1-1 away to Forfar and they are on a total of 50 goals and they have now scored in all of their last twenty-three games. BONNYRIGG ROSE won 1-0 away to Stranraer and are now on a total of 32 goals and bottom of the league. 

Our BEST three teams this week

Our best performing team are RANGERS as they have now scored in all of their last 23 league/cup games played. They have a total of 68 goals. That still gives them an average score of 2.2 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is GILLINGHAM as they have picked up a total of 20 blank score sheets out of 37 League/Cup games played. 

Our highest goal scorers in our 40th Season are CELTIC who won 9-0 away to Dundee Utd in the league and LIVERPOOL who won 9-0 at home to Bournemouth in the league both from Week Five.

Our 2010/11 Champion TONY GUY with selection number two, has remained at the top for his 16th consecutive weekend. Tony picked up a total of 8 goals this week from Arsenal, Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday and he is still 3 goals in front. Mark Gregory remains in second place this weekend. Mark picked up a total of 8 goals from his combination of Celtic, Manchester City and Norwich.  

At the other end at 108 we have back down MANDY WRIGHT as she picked up just 2 goals. Mandy’s teams are Bournemouth, Swansea and West Ham. Mandy has now been here for a total of 13 weeks throughout the season.
