Week Forty-Three

In Week Forty-Three of the competition and we are still in to injury time here at Golden Goals.

We had one player that picked up the most number of goals this weekend with 6. They are STALKY (1) Bob Burgin with Leicester City, Rangers and West Ham. All but one of us managed to pick up some more goals this week. 

This week we see our first player drop out of the competition as all of his teams have finished their season. It is LUCIFER (John Wood) with Alloa, Bonnyrigg Rose and Stenhousemuir. 

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Just over half of us managed to pick up some more midweek goals, but it is still JAMES BLYTH well out in front with a total of 112 goals. His teams are Ipswich, Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday. We now have a total of 12 players that have reached 100 goals this week. We had two players that picked up the most number of goals from their combos and they are CHRIS BOLBERY with Liverpool, Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday and SIMON DICKINSON with Celtic, Liverpool and Sheffield Wednesday. Both picked up a total of 8 goals.

In second place we still have CHRIS NUNN but he is now joined with TOBY BICKNELL our 2014/15 Champion and CHRIS BOLBERY our 2017/18 Champion all with a total of 104 goals each. In third place we still have TIM WOOD but now with GEOFF CARTHY both with a total of 103 goals. In fourth place we still have SAMUEL STEPHENS but now with NICK HORTON and RICKY WOOD our 2007/08 Champion all with a total of 101 goals. In fifth place with 100 goals we still have CHRIS DICKER. In sixth place this week we still have KEITH THOMSON and coming back in we have SIMON DICKINSON both with a total of 99 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We only had just 22 of our teams in action and out of the the ones that did play, only 3 failed to score any goals. Our top teams did not score many goals this weekend, with Manchester City and Liverpool picking up just one goal each and Chelsea failed to score. In all we did not have a bad weekend as we had three teams that picked up the highest score with 3 goals each. They are BRIGHTON, RANGERS (once again) and WEST HAM. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

Congratulations to MANCHESTER CITY as they are confirmed as Champions for a third season in a row. City won 1-0 at home to CHELSEA. City still have a game in hand as they take their goals total to 115 and a goal run of 18 games. Chelsea have picked up their 16th blank of the season. ARSENAL lost 1-0 away to Nottingham Forest and that is their 5th blank of the season and now two games in a row. Newcastle are still in third place on goal difference as MANCHESTER UNITED win 1-0 away to BOURNEMOUTH. United are on a total of 80 goals as Bournemouth picked up their 18th blank and now two in a row. LIVERPOOL in fifth place drew 1-1 at home to ASTON VILLA. Liverpool are on a total of 77 goals and a goal run of 9 games now. Villa are on a total of 56 goals. TOTTENHAM lost 3-1 at home to Brentford and they are on a total of 70 goals. FULHAM drew 2-2 at home to CRYSTAL PALACE and they are on a total of 62 goals while Palace are on 44 goals. EVERTON drew 1-1 away to Wolves and picked up their 36th goal of the season. WEST HAM have escaped relegation after they won 3-1 at home to LEEDS UNITED. West Ham have now taken their goals tally to 47 goals while Leeds picked up their 60th goal of the season. BRIGHTON won 3-1 at home to bottom of the table Southampton and they have taken their goals total to 89 and a goal run of 7 games. 

LEAGUE TWO PLAY-OFFS 

STOCKPORT COUNTY lost their first leg game to SALFORD CITY 1-0 but they then won their second leg game 2-1 at home. The tie ended 2-2 and even after extra time the score remained the same. Stockport then went on to win 3-1 on penalties. Stockport who had finished in fourth place in the league have taken their goals total to 78 while Salford finished their season on a total of 75 goals. Stockport County will be playing Carlisle United at Wembley on the 28th May.

In the other play-off, BRADFORD CITY had won their first leg 1-0 at home to Carlisle Utd but it all went wrong in their second leg game as they lost 3-1 after extra time and 3-2 on aggregate. Bradford finished on a total of 65 goals and a goal run of 6 games. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUE RESULTS

In the Premiership Champions CELTIC drew 2-2 at home to St Mirren. Celtic have won just two of their last five games. They are now on a total of 133 goals. RANGERS in second place won 3-1 away to HIBERNIAN and have become our fourth team to pick up over 100 goals this season. Rangers have taken their goals total to 102 goals while Hibs are on a total of 63 goals. HEARTS won 2-1 at home to ABERDEEN in third place. Hearts in fourth are on a total of 65 goals while Aberdeen picked up goal number 74.

Our WORST three teams are 

CHELSEA (36) EVERTON (36) FOREST GREEN ROVERS (38) Total of 110 goals

Our best performing team are now MANCHESTER CITY as they have now scored in all of their last 18 league/cup games played. They have a total of 115 goals. That gives them an average score of 2.6 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is GILLINGHAM as they have picked up a total of 24 blank score sheets out of their 54 League/Cup games played. 

Our highest goal scorers in our 40th Season are CELTIC who won 9-0 away to Dundee Utd in the league and LIVERPOOL winning 9-0 at home to Bournemouth in the league both from Week Five. 

JAMES BLYTH has remained at the top this weekend, after picking up a total of 6 goals this week. This is his fourth weekend there and now five over the season. His teams are Ipswich, Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday. James is still climbing up our Champions League and is now in 10th place this week. He has now beaten Tony Patman’s total of 322 goals from the 1999/00 Season. Also Ian Sweeney’s total of 326 goals in the 1985/86 Season and Pete Christopher’s score of 327 goals in our very first season of 1983/84. Our 2010/11 Champion Tony Guy with combo two, is still in second place. Tony picked up a total of 7 goals this week from Arsenal, Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday and he is now 8 goals behind James.

At the other end at 108 we still have  JOHN NICHOLLS there. John picked up a total of  just 2 goals at the weekend. John has now been at 108 for a total of five weeks over the season. John’s teams are Bristol Rovers, Everton and Leeds United. John is currently now up to in 35th place in our Loser’s League and has beaten Richard Lloyd’s score of 154 goals from the 1993/94 Season.

Just a slight change in the race to become our 40th Champion here at Golden Goals.
