Week Forty

In Week Forty of the competition and we are now in to injury time here at Golden Goals. We had our very last weekend winner in our 40th Season this week with the full £5 going to STUART KEMP with his first selection. Stuart picked up a total of 13 goals which is his best weekend score to date and he becomes our 36th winner of the season. Stuart has been with us for a long time now and last season he finished in 43rd place with combo one with a total of 279 goals. His second combo finished in 33rd place with 285 goals. This season Stuart has picked up six blank weekend score sheets and 39th place is his highest with this combo in Week Twenty. His winning teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Congratulations to JAMES BLYTH who has now won the £40 Midweek Jackpot in our 40th Season. As he picks up another 7 goals.  James is the first player to reach 100 goals with his teams of Ipswich, Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday. He now has a total of 104 goals. Most of us have managed to pick up some midweek goals again this week and here is the top six players. Although the season is not over yet, how many more of us will hit 100 goals. We had two players that picked up the most number of midweek goals with 10 each. They are LYANNA GRIMWOOD and SCOTT THOMSON (1)

Here are the rest of the players that nearly made it there. In second place we still have NICK HORTON now with a total of 97 goals. In third place we still have TOBY BICKNELL our 2014/15 Champion plus CHRIS NUNN moving up from fourth place both with a total of 96 goals.  In fourth place we have SAMUEL STEPHENS coming in with a total of 94 goals. In fifth place with 93 goals we have CHRIS DICKER coming back in with RICKY WOOD our 2007/08 Champion moving down from four. In sixth place this week we still have JUNE TIGHE  but joining her this week we have CHRIS BOLBERY coming back in and KEITH THOMSON moving down from four. All are on a total of 92 goals.

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had all but nine of our teams in action and out of the the ones that did play, only 8 failed to score any goals. Once again we did have a couple of  high scoring results this weekend and as everyone by one picked up some goals. Last weekend the average score was four goals. This weekend the average score went back up to 6 goals.

The highest score that we had came from BRIGHTON and IPSWICH where both teams picked up a total of six goals each.

PREMIER LEAGUE

MANCHESTER CITY are now top after they won 2-1 away to FULHAM. City are now one point in front of Arsenal in second place who had no game this week. City still have a game in hand as they take their goals total to 106 and a goal run of fourteen games. Fulham picked up goal number 54. NEWCATLE are still third after they won 3-1 at home to Southampton. Newcastle are now on a total of 70 goals. MANCHESTER UNITED are still in fourth place after they won 1-0 at home to ASTON VILLA. United are on a total of 77 goals while Villa picked up their 7th blank of the season after a goal run of 22 games. After they had failed to score in their last two games, CRYSTAL PALACE won 4-3 at home to WEST HAM. Palace have taken their goals tally to 38 goals while West Ham are now on a total of 43 and a goal run of eight games. BRIGHTON picked up their biggest result of the season as they won 6-0 at home against Wolves. Brighton are now on a total of 80 goals. AFC BOURNEMOUTH won 4-1 at home to LEEDS UNITED. Bournemouth are now on a total of 44 goals while Leeds are on 56 and a goal run of nine games. LIVERPOOL won 4-3 at home to TOTTENHAM. Liverpool have taken their goals tally up to 71 while Tottenham are now on a total of 67 goals and a goal run of 8 games.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Promoted BURNLEY won 2-1 away to Bristol City and have taken their goals total to 95 goals. SHEFFIELD UNITED remained in second place after they won 4-1 at home against Preston. United have taken their goals tally up to 83 goals.

In the Play-Offs Luton are still in third place with Middlesbrough in fourth place.

Meanwhile SWANSEA drew 1-1 away to Hull and hit goal number 69. It’s 50 goals for READING after they drew 1-1 at home to Wigan. It’s 70 goals for SUNDERLAND as they drew 2-2 at home to WATFORD. Sunderland have now scored in all of their last six games. Watford are on 54 goals. WEST BROM won 2-1 at home against NORWICH and they are on a total of 63 goals. Norwich are on 61 goals. HUDDERSFIELD won 2-1 away to Cardiff and they are on a total of 46 goals.

LEAGUE ONE

PLYMOUTH are promoted and still of the top of the table after they won 1-0 at home to Burton. Plymouth have taken their goals tally to 80 goals. IPSWICH in second place are also promoted after they won 6-0 at home against Exeter. Ipswich are on a total of 111 goals and have extended their goal run to fourteen games.

In the Play-Offs SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY are still in third place after they won 3-1 away to Shrewsbury and they are now on a total of 93 goals and a goal run of eight games. DERBY are still in sixth place after they drew 1-1 at home to Portsmouth. Derby are on a total of 82 goals and a goal run of six games now.

Meanwhile CHARLTON won 3-2 at home to Port Vale and are now on a total of 78 goals. Relegated FOREST GREEN ROVERS lost 3-0 at home to OXFORD UNITED and that is their 20th blank of the season. Oxford have taken their goals total to 56 goals. After they had failed to score in their previous two games, MK DONS drew 4-4 at home to Barnsley and they have taken their goals tally to 57. LINCOLN CITY lost 3-2 away to Morecambe and they are on a total of 55 goals. PETERBOROUGH drew 0-0 at home to BRISTOL ROVERS and that is their 16th blank and now two games in a row. Rovers picked up their 15th blank of the season and now three games in a row.

LEAGUE TWO

The highest team that we have here are still in the Play-Offs in fourth place where STOCKPORT COUNTY won 3-0 away to Leyton Orient. Stockport are now on a total of 75 goals and a goal run of ten games. SALFORD CITY have remained in sixth place after they won 3-2 away to Carlisle and they have taken their goals tally to 73. BRADFORD CITY are still in seventh place after they won 2-1 away to Northampton. Bradford are on a total of 60 goals.

Meanwhile MANSFIELD TOWN lost 2-1 at home to Harrogate. Mansfield are on a total of 73 goals and a goal run of eight games. AFC WIMBELDON drew 1-1 at home to Tranmere and they are on a total of 52 goals. CRAWLEY TOWN drew 0-0 at home to Walsall to pick up their 17th blank of the season. SWINDON lost 2-1 away to Crewe and they are on a total of 59 goals. GILLINGHAM lost 2-1 at home against Newport and are on a total of 44 goals. SUTTON UNITED lost 4-1 away to Rochdale and are on a total of 45 goals.

SCOTTISH LEAGUE RESULTS

In the SCOTTISH CUP Semi-Finals CELTIC won 1-0 away to RANGERS and are through to the Cup finals against Inverness CT. Celtic pick up goal number 129 while Rangers picked up their 3rd blank of the season and now they have failed to score in their last two games.

In League One ALLOA are still in fourth place after they won 4-0 away to Montrose. Alloa are on a total of 65 goals. KELTY HEARTS won 2-1 at home to Peterhead and they are on a total of 41 goals.

In League Two, STENHOUSEMUIR lost 2-0 away to Stranraer and that is their 15th blank of the season. BONNYRIGG ROSE drew 0-0 away to Anna and they have now had a total of eleven blank score sheets.

Our BEST three teams this week

Our WORST three teams are

EVERTON (28) CHELSEA (30) FOREST GREEN ROVERS (38) Total of 96 goals

Our best performing team are now CELTIC as they have now scored in all of their last 33 league/cup games played. They have a total of 129 goals. That gives them an average score of 3.1 goals per game.

Our worst performing team is GILLINGHAM as they have picked up a total of 24 blank score sheets out of 54 League/Cup games played.

Our highest goal scorers in our 40th Season are CELTIC who won 9-0 away to Dundee Utd in the league and LIVERPOOL winning 9-0 at home to Bournemouth in the league both from Week Five. 

JAMES BLYTH has moved up to the top this weekend, after picking up a total of 18 goals this week. This is the second time that James has reached number one. He was last here in Week Eleven. His teams are Ipswich, Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday. Our 2010/11 Champion Tony Guy with combo two, has moved down to second place this weekend. Tony picked up a total of 5 goals this week from Arsenal, Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday and he is now 6 goals behind the new leader.

At the other end at 108 we have  JOHN NICHOLLS in his third weekend there. John picked up a total of  just 3 goals once again for the week. John’s  teams are  Bristol Rovers, Everton and Leeds United.

Getting a new leader this weekend has made things a bit more interesting as we are now in injury time. The top ten has not changed much once again this week so who is going to win the £240 Cash Prize Money.
