Week Nineteen

In Week Nineteen of the competition we had just one winner to pick up the full prize money of £5, as it was once again won on a score of 10 goals. Our winner has become our 20th winner of the season and they are GUY DOWSETT (1). 

Guy started with Golden Goals back in the 2000/01 Season and finished in 56th place with a total of 272 goals. Guy has for a while now had two combinations in each season. Last season he finished in the winning frame in 24th place with his second combo with a total of 288 goals. His first ended in 94th place with 222 goals. He also picked up one shared weekend win. This season’s first combo has been as high as 38th place in Week One. This is his personal best weekend score and he has picked up just two blank score sheets to date. His best team is Leicester City. Our winner winning teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

All but 13 of us have picked up goals this week and the race for the cash has changed once again this week. The highest amount of goals went to MANDY WRIGHT with a total of 11 goals. They came from Bournemouth, Celtic and AFC Wimbledon.

In first place this week we now have MARK GREGORY leading the pack with a total of 45 goals. Mark has Barnsley, Celtic and Middlesbrough. In second place we have last weeks leaders TONY KING and ANN WELLARD both with a total of 44 goals. In third place is our 2017/18 Champion CHRIS BOLBERY moving down from one still with a total of 42 goals. In fourth place we still have PETER PORTER and JAMES SOMERVILLE. Both are on a total of 41 goals. In fifth place both down from  three we have ANDY EYLES and BAILEY MORAN both are still with a total of 38 goals. In sixth place we have GEOFF CARTHY back in with 37 goals.

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had 4 of our teams without a game over the weekend due to the bad weather once again. Out of the ones that did play 9 failed to score any goals. We had a disappointing weekend for goals as the average score went down from seven goals last weekend to just 4 goals this weekend. The highest score that we had came from Premier League where FULHAM won 5-0 at home to WEST HAM. Fulham have taken their goals tally up to 32 goals this week. West Ham picked up their second blank of the season after a goal run of 6 games.

Fulham became our third most voted team in our first season of 1983. In that season they finished on a total of 68 goals. Their highest end of season score came in the 2021/22 Season with 110 goals. It was their second season netting over 100 goals. Last season they finished with just 64 goals. This is their 19th Season with Golden Goals and over the years they have netted a total of 1269 goals, which gives them an average score of 66 goals per season to date. This season they have just one vote and have picked up a total of 5 blank score sheets.

PREMIER LEAGUE

LIVERPOOL have moved up to the top after they won 2-1 away to CRYSTAL PALACE. Liverpool have kept their 100% scoring record after a total of 18 league/cup games. They now have a total of 41 goals. Palace picked up goal number 19. ARSENAL are down to second place after they lost 1-0 away to ASTON VILLA and picked up their second blank of the season. Villa are on a total of 36 goals. BRIGHTON drew 1-1 at home to Burnley and are on a total of 33 goals. MANCHESTER UNITED lost 3-0 at home to BOURNEMOUTH and that is their sixth blank of the season while Bournemouth take their goals total to 27 goals and have scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. After they had failed to score in their last two games, NOTTINGHAM FOREST drew 1-1 away to Wolves and are on a total of 17 goals. CHELSEA lost 2-0 away to Everton and picked up their fifth blank score sheet after a goal run of 6 games. MANCHESTER CITY won 2-1 away to Luton and they are on a total of 38 goals. TOTTENHAM won 4-1 at home against NEWCASTLE and have taken their goals total to 34 goals and have extended their 100% scoring run to 17 league/cup games. Newcastle are on a total of 37 goals.

CHAMPIONSHIP

LEICESTER CITY are still top here after they won 4-0 at home to PLYMOUTH. Leicester are now on a total of 43 goals. Plymouth picked up their fifth blank of the season. IPSWICH TOWN are in second place after they won 2-0 away to MIDDLESBROUGH. Ipswich are on a total of 51 goals while Brough after a goal run of 6 games, picked up their fifth blank of the season. LEEDS UNITED won 2-0 away to Blackburn and are on a total of 39 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. SUNDERLAND won 2-1 at home to West Brom and are on a total of 32 goals. BRISTOL CITY drew 1-1 away to Huddersfield and are on a total of 26 goals. After a goal run of 13 league/cup games, NORWICH drew 0-0 at home to Preston and picked up their second blank of the season. SWANSEA won 2-1 away to Rotherham and are on a total of 33 goals. STOKE lost 1-0 at home to SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY and picked up their eleventh blank of the season while Wednesday picked up their 15th goal of the season. SOUTHAMPTON drew 1-1 away to Watford and they are on a total of 33 goals and have now scored in all of their last 13 league/cup games.

LEAGUE ONE

The highest team that we have here are PETERBOROUGH after they won 3-0 at home to Oxford Utd. Borough are now on a total of 52 goals and have scored in all of their last 21 league/cup games. It’s 40 goals for BLACKPOOL after they won 3-0 at home to Carlisle. BRISTOL ROVERS drew 1-1 at home to Cheltenham and are on a total of 32 goals and have now scored in all of their last 11 games. CHARLTON drew 2-2 at home to Cambridge Utd and are on a total of 40 goals. DERBY won 3-0 away to Leyton Orient and are now on a total of 37 goals and have scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. READING lost 3-1 at home to BARNSLEY and are on a total of 33 goals and have scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. Barnsley are on a total of 45 goals.

LEAGUE TWO

Due to the bad weather we had a few games that were cancelled due to waterlogged pitches. This meant that we had just two of our teams in action. They were AFC WIMBLEDON who won 4-0 at home to Swindon and what a week they have had. Wimbledon have taken their goals tally to 46 goals. NOTTS COUNTY lost 2-1 at home to Walsall and are on a total of 48 goals.

SCOTTISH RESULTS

In the Premiership top of the table CELTIC have lost their first league game 2-1 away to KILMARNOCK. Celtic are on a total of 43 goals but have extended their goal run to 7 league/cup games. Kilmarnock are on a total of 29 goals. Second place RANGERS won 3-1 at home to Dundee and have extended their goal run to 14 league/cup games and have a total of 42 goals. They are now 5 points behind Celtic. ABERDEEN won 2-1 at home to Hearts and after they had failed to score in their previous two games, are now on a total of 22 goals. It’s 30 goals for HIBERNIAN after they won 1-0 away to Livingston. ROSS COUNTY lost 2-0 away to St Mirren and that is their eighth blank of the season.

In League One FALKIRK are in second place after they won 2-1 at home to KELTY HEARTS and are on a total of 44 goals. Kelty picked up goal number 36. COVE RANGERS won 3-1 away to Anna and are now on a total of 37 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 11 league/cup games.

In League Two STENHOUSEMUIR are still top of the table after they won 1-0 away to Dumbarton. Stenhousemuir are on a total of 30 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 games. CLYDE who are bottom of the table drew 2-2 at home to Stranraer and are on a total of 21 goals. EAST FIFE picked up another four goals in their 4-0 home win against Elgin City. Fife have taken their goals tally to 24 goals.

Our Best performing team are still PETERBOROUGH after they have now scored in all of their 21 league/cup games. They have a total of 52 goals which gives them an average score of 2 goals per game.

Our worst performing team is STOKE CITY this week as they have picked up 11 blank score sheets out of their 23 league/cup games.

Our highest goal scoring team in our 41st Season are NEWCASTLE UNITED after they won 8-0 away to Sheffield United in Week Eight. BARNSLEY and BRISTOL ROVERS have both pick up our second highest score with 7 goals. Barnsley won 7-0 at home to Port Vale in the first league game of the season in Week One. Bristol Rovers won 7-2 at home to non-league Whitby Town in the first round of the FA CUP in Week Fourteen. 

SCOTT THOMSON (2) celebrates his third weekend at number one. Scott picked up a total of 8 goals this week from his second selection of Celtic, Peterborough, Wrexham. James Somerville remains in second place this week and just one goal behind Scott, as he picked up a total of 12 goals from the week. James teams are Celtic, Leicester City and Peterborough.

At the other end at 110 we have JOHN NICHOLLS  for his second weekend. John picked up just 4 goals from the weekend and has now been there for a total of 6 weeks over the season. John has Bristol Rovers, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest. 

As the top two remain the same, it's all change for the rest of the top ten.
