Week Thirty-Three

In Week Thirty-Three of the competition we had two winners this weekend to share the Weekend Jackpot of £5. They are our 2016/17 Champion JOHN WOOD with “Lucifer” and STEVE STUBBS both are first time winners, which now brings our winners total to 33. Both picked up the winning score of 11 goals,

John started with us back in the 1997/98 Season on where he finished in 87th place with 209 goals. John became our 4th best Champion in the 2016/17 Season with a total of 344 goals he also picked up 3 weekend wins. John has also been at the other send, finishing bottom with his other teams. With “Ziggy” in the 2011/12 and 2021/22 Seasons and 2019/20 Season with “Lucifer”, and it looks like he could be there again with this seasons “Charlie Farley”. Last season John finished in 80th place with 245 goals. This season with Lucifer, he has been at the top for a total of 3 weeks from Week Fourteen to Week Sixteen. This is his best personal weekend score. Lucifer has also picked up a total of 2 blank weekend score sheets.

Steve started with us before the 1996/97 Season, so starting from there, where he finished in 90th place with 209 goals and one shared weekend win. Last season Steve finished in 83rd place with 242 goals. This season he has been as high as 42nd place in Week Three. Steve has picked up 3 blank weekend score sheets. I would like to thank both families for their long term support over the years. Our winning teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Just over half of us have managed to pick up a goal or two this week and the race for the cash has changed again this week. The highest amount of goals collected this week came from three of our players with 6 goals each. They are TONY KING, ANN WELLARD and MANDY WRIGHT. 

In first place this week we now have TONY KING moves up from two with a total of 97 goals, which means Tony need just 3 goals for the cash. His teams are Chelsea, Peterborough and Rangers. In second place up from three we have ANN WELLARD with a total of 96 goals. Last week’s leader MARK JOHNSTON moves down to third place with a total of 95 goals. In fourth place all with a total of 94 goals we have GEOFF CARTHY, DOUG MORBEY and  JAMES SOMERVILLE all moving down from two. In fifth place we have BAILEY MORAN and PETER PORTER both down from three. Both are on a total of 93 goals. In sixth place down from four we have ANDY EYLES  with a total of 92 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had all but six of our teams in action over the weekend and we had another 15 teams that failed to score any goals. We had a pretty poor weekend for goals. The average score for this weekend went down from six goals from last weekend to 5 goals this weekend. The highest score that we had was 6 goals and they came from the Championship where IPSWICH TOWN picked up their biggest result of the season after they won 6-0 at home to SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY. Ipswich have taken their goals tally up to 92 goals and they have now scored in all of their 14 league/cup games. Wednesday picked up their 18th blank of the season and now two games in a row.

Ipswich became our 52nd voted team when they joined our 3rd season of 1986/87. In their first season they finished with a total of 64 goals. They have only hit 100 goals once and that was last season, 2022/23 with 113 goals. This is their 26th Season with Golden Goals and over the years they have netted a total of 1885 goals which gives them an average score of 72 goals per season. Ipswich are having a fantastic season and they have a total of 4 votes and have only picked up a total of four blank score sheets to date. Here are all of the other weekends results. 

FA CUP Quarter-Finals

We had six of the eight teams that were still in the cup. Out of them 3 have made it through to the semi-finals. They are MANCHESTER CITY who won 2-0 at home against NEWCASTLE and are on a total of 77 goals and have now scored in all of their last 17 league/cup games. Newcastle picked up their 5th blank of the season after a goal run of 13 league/cup games. CHELSEA won 4-2 at home to LEICESTER CITY and they are now on a total of 73 goals while Leicester are on 88 goals and have now scored in all of their last 25 league/cup games. MANCHESTER UNITED won 4-3 at home to LIVERPOOL after extra time and are now on a total of 53 goals and have now scored in all of their last 14 league/cup games. Liverpool are on a total of 92 goals and have now scored in all of their last 19 league/cup games. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

Arsenal are still at the top on goal difference with Liverpool in second place. Manchester City are still in third place with ASTON VILLA in fourth place after they drew 1-1 away to WEST HAM. Villa are on a total of 63 goals while West Ham are on 52. TOTTENHAM are still in fifth place after they lost 3-0 away to FULHAM. Tottenham have picked up their 2nd blank of the season after a goal run of 6 league/cup games. Fulham have taken their goals total to 53 and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. NOTTINGHAM FOREST drew 1-1 away to Luton and are on a total of 41 goals after they failed to score in their previous 3 games. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

LEEDS UNITED move to the top of the table on goal difference after they won 2-0 at home against Millwall. Leeds are on a total of 82 goals and have now scored in all of their last 16 league/cup games. Leicester City move down to second place as they played in the cup.

In the Play-offs we still have three of the four teams with IPSWICH TOWN in third place with Southampton are still in fourth place after they had no game this weekend. NORWICH are still in sixth place after they won 3-0 away to STOKE CITY.  Norwich are now on a total of 78 goals and have now scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games. Stoke picked up their 17th blank of the season.

Meanwhile SWANSEA won 2-0 at home against Cardiff and are on a total of 55 goals. MIDDLESBROUGH drew 0-0 at home to Blackburn Rovers and picked up their 10th blank of the season. PLYMOUTH lost 1-0 at home against Preston and picked up their 11th blank of the season and now they have scored just 3 goals in their last 7 games. SUNDERLAND drew 0-0 at home to QPR and picked up their 14th blank of the season. BRISTOL CITY lost 1-0 away to West Brom and they picked up their 16th blank of the season. 

LEAGUE ONE

Our highest team here is still DERBY in second place after they won 1-0 at home to Bolton. Derby are now on a total of 72 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 11 league/cup games.

In the Play-offs again we still have two teams and they are PETERBOROUGH in fourth place after they lost 1-0 at home to top of the table Portsmouth. Borough picked up their 4th blank of the season after a goal run of 9 league/cup games. BARNSLEY are still in fifth place after they drew 0-0 at home to Cheltenham. Barnsley after a goal run of 22 league/cup games, picked up their 3rd blank of the season.

Meanwhile CHARLTON drew 1-1 away to Fleetwood and are on a total to 65. BRISTOL ROVERS picked up their 8th blank score sheet and now 3 in a row after they lost 5-0 away to Lincoln City. READING won 4-0 at home against Cambridge Utd and are now on a total of 64 goals and have now scored in all of their last 13 league/cup games. BLACKPOOL lost 2-0 away to Wycombe and picked u their 14th blank of the season. 

LEAGUE TWO

WREXHAM are our highest team here still in third place after they lost 1-0 at home to Tranmere Rovers and picked up their 9th blank score sheet and now 2 in a row.

In the Play-offs we are back up to having two of the four teams and they are MK DONS in fourth place after they won 3-1 at home to Crewe. The Dons have taken their goals total to 65.

Meanwhile NOTTS COUNTY drew 2-2 away to Accrington and are on a total of 77 goals. AFC WIMBLEDON lost 2-0 at home to Newport and picked up their 14th blank of the season. SUTTON UNITED bottom of the table, won their sixth league game 1-0 away to Forest Green and are on a total of 52 goals. SALFORD CITY won 3-1 at home against Morecambe and are now on a total of 67 goals. 

SCOTTISH RESULTS

In the Premiership CELTIC go top of the table after they won 3-1 at home against St Johnston and have taken their goals tally to 82 goals. Rangers move down to second place after their game was cancelled. HIBERNIAN won 3-0 at home to Livingston and have taken their goals total to 51. KILMARNOCK picked up their biggest result of the season after they won 5-2 at home to St Mirren. Kilmarnock are now on a total of 55 goals and have now scored in all of their last 15 league/cup games. ABERDEEN won 1-0 away to Motherwell and are on a total of 45 goals. ROSS COUNTY won 2-1 at home against Hearts and are on a total of 46 goals. 

In League One top of the table FALKIRK won 4-1 away to Queen of the South. Falkirk are now on a total of 83 goals and have now scored in all of their last 16 league/cup games. KELTY HEARTS picked up their 11th blank of the season after they lost 1-0 at home against COVE RANGERS. Kelty have now failed to score in their last 4 league games. Rangers are on a total of 60 goals. 

In League Two STENHOUSEMUIR are still top of the table after they drew 1-1 away to Forfar. Stenhousemuir are on a total of 49 goals. EAST FIFE drew 1-1 away to Peterhead and they are on a total of 42 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. CLYDE who are still bottom of the league, but won their 6th league game 2-1 away to Bonnyrigg Rose. Clyde are on a total of 47 goals. 

Our BEST three teams this week

Our WORST three teams are 

 CRYSTAL PALACE (37) SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY (38) NOTTINGHAM FOREST(41) Total of 116 goals 

Our Best performing team are RANGERS after they have now scored in all of their last 31 league/cup games. They have a total of 82 goals which gives them an average score of 2.2 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY this week as they have picked up 18 blank score sheets out of their 42 league/cup games. 

Our highest goal scoring teams in our 41st Season are NEWCASTLE UNITED after they won 8-0 away to Sheffield United in Week Eight. BARNSLEY, BRISTOL ROVERS, COVE RANGERS and CELTIC have all pick up our second highest score with 7 goals each. Barnsley won 7-0 at home to Port Vale in the first league game of the season in Week One. Bristol Rovers won 7-2 at home to non-league Whitby Town in the first round of the FA CUP in Week Fourteen. Cove Rangers won 7-2 at home to Edinburgh City in a league game in Week Twenty-One. Celtic won 7-1 at home to Dundee in the league in Week Thirty-One.

JOHN FILTNESS celebrates his 7th weekend at the top as he picks up a total of 7 goals from the weekend. He’s teams are Leicester City, Liverpool and Manchester City. James Somerville is still in second place this weekend as he picked up a total of 8 goals this week. James is just 1 goal behind John. James teams are Celtic, Leicester City and Peterborough.

At the other end at 110 we have CHARLIE FARLEY (John Wood) for his 14th consecutive weekend. John picked up a total of 10 goals this week. John has Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir. John has now moved up to 37th place in our “Losers League”. 

The top two have remained the same this weekend but the rest have changed.
