Week Thirty-One

It’s Week Thirty-One of Season 34 and we had our thirty-sixth winner of the season winning on a total of 12 goals. Our winner is CLIFF BAMBRIDGE.
Cliff  has been with the competition for three seasons now and he started with Golden Goals way back in our 2006/07 Season where he finished in 55th place on 236 goals and he picked up one shared weekend prize money of just 57 pence. The next time that we see Cliff was in the 2008/09 Season. There he finished in 69th place on a total of 244 goals. This season Cliff is back and he is very slowly moving up the table. This weekend we see him at his highest position to date. He has had just three blank score sheets and this is his personal highest score. His best team is Celtic and his others are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
Congratulations to DARYL NICHOLLS who has won this season’s 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot with a Rollover from last season of £80. Daryl needed just three goals from his combination and they all came from two of  his teams last Tuesday night from Brighton one and Newcastle two. Celtic his third team also picked him up another four goals on Wednesday night. ANDY EYLES came in a very close second as he needed ten goals. Two goals came on Tuesday night from Newcastle while on Wednesday night the eight came from Manchester City and Rangers.

WEEKEND RESULTS
What a fantastic weekend we had for goals as the average score moved up from five goals last weekend to 7 goals this weekend.  We had just four of our teams without a game over the weekend with another seven teams that failed to score any goals.
The highest score over the weekend came from the Scottish WILLIAM HILL CUP Sixth Round where RANGERS picked up their highest score of the season as they win 6-0 at home to Hamilton. With the three goals in midweek, Rangers are now on a total of 67 goals and a place in the Semi-Finals.

PREMIERSHIP
Chelsea had no game over the weekend so they have remained top of the Premiership. TOTTENHAM are still in second place after they win 3-2 at home to seventh place EVERTON. Tottenham are now on a total of 68 goals while Everton are on 49. MANCHESTER CITY remained in third place as they win 2-0 away to Sunderland to take their goals tally up to 68. Up to fourth place is LIVERPOOL after they beat ARSENAL  3-1 at home. Liverpool are now on 72 goals while Arsenal moved down to fifth place on 70 goals. MANCHESTER UNITED are in sixth place as they drew 1-1 at home to BOURNEMOUTH. United are now on a total of 63 goals while Bournemouth picked up goal number 41. After picking up three goals in midweek, LEICESTER CITY picked up another three in their 3-1 home win over Hull. City are now on a total of 39 goals. STOKE won 2-0 at home against Middlesbrough and that now gives them a total of 37 goals. SOUTHAMPTON are now on 44 goals as they win 4-3 away to Watford.

CHAMPIONSHIP
We still have the top two teams here with NEWCASTLE going back on top after they won 3-1 away to Huddersfield. Newcastle are now on a total of 84 goals and five point in front BRIGHTON as they lost 3-0 away to Nottingham Forest. Brighton after a run of scoring in all of their last ten games, picked up blank number seven.
In the play-off zone, we still have two teams with Leeds United still in fourth place and SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have remained in sixth place after they picked up their biggest result of the season by winning 5-1 at home to NORWICH. Wednesday are now on 48 goals while Norwich picked up goal number 72.
Meanwhile ASTON VILLA won again 2-0  away to Rotherham and they are now on a total of 36 goals. After a three game blank score sheet, DERBY take their goals tally to 45 as they beat Barnsley 2-1 at home.  PRESTON lost 3-1 away to Fulham and they are on 54 goals. BRENTFORD drew 1-1 away to Ipswich and that gives them goal number 56 while
QUEENS PARK RANGERS beat CARDIFF 2-1 at home. Rangers picked up their 45th goal of the season while Cardiff hit goal number 49.  WOLVES are on 48 goals as they lost 2-1 away to Reading.

LEAGUE ONE
We still have the top team here with SHEFFIELD UNITED still on top after they drew 3-3 away to Rochdale to take their goals tally to 73. In the Play-off zone we have SCUNTHORPE who lost 2-0 at home to Fleetwood which moved them down to third place with their sixth blank of the season. BRADFORD are still in fifth place after they win 1-0 at home to PETERBOROUGH. Bradford are now on a total of 48 goals while Borough picked up their eleventh blank and now two in a row. MILLWALL are in sixth place as they win 2-1 at home to MK DONS. Millwall are on 66 goals and the Dons are on a total of 56. Meanwhile SOUTHEND drew 1-1 at home to PORT VALE to give them their 54th goal of the season and Vale their 41st. GILLINGHAM are on 57 goals as they win 2-1 away to Bury. WALSALL won 2-0 at home to OLDHAM to take their goals tally to 43 while Oldham picked up their twenty-second blank of the season. CHARLTON are on 48 goals as they lost 2-1 away to Northampton. BRISTOL ROVERS won 2-0 away to Oxford and they are now on 63 goals.

LEAGUE TWO
We have the top two teams here again this weekend with DONCASTER still on top after they again drew 0-0away to Crawley. Doncaster picked up their third blank of the season. In second place is still PLYMOUTH after they won 2-0 at home to Carlisle. Plymouth are now on 57 goals and now four points behind Doncaster.
In the play-off zone we have LUTON have moved up to fourth place as they win 4-0 away to YEOVIL. Luton are on 66 goals and they have now scored in all of their last eleven games. Yeovil picked up their fifteenth blank of the season and now four games in a row with out a goal. PORTSMOUTH have moved down to fifth place after they lost 1-0 at home to Crewe and that now gives them their eighth blank of the season. ACCRINGTON STANLEY are now on 45 goals as they win 1-0 at home to Barnet. COLCHESTER drew 1-1 away to Cambridge and they are now on 52 goals. LEYTON ORIENT may be second from bottom in this league but they picked up their highest result of the season by winning 4-0 away to Newport who are rock bottom. Orient take their goals tally to 42.

SCOTTISH RESULTS
In the WILLIAM HILL CUP Sixth Round games we have all four of our Scottish teams through to the Semi-Finals. Champions CELTIC won 4-1 at home to St Mirren which extend their goals run to thirty-four games. They are now on a total of 97 goals. Celtic will be playing Rangers in the next round after their big win. ABERDEEN are through as they win 1-0 at home to Partick. Aberdeen are now on a total of 61 goals and they will meet the holders HIBERNIAN who won 3-1 at home to Ayr to take their goals tally to 56.

In the Premiership KILMARNOCK lost 2-1 at home to Motherwell and they are now on 30 goals. In the Championship, FALKIRK are now in second place as they win 2-0 away to Queen of South and they are now on a total of 48 goals. In League One, STENHOUSEMUIR won 3-1 at home to PETERHEAD and they are now on a tally of 44 goals while Peterhead picked up goal number 43.

 Our Best team on form is still CELTIC after they have scored in all of their thirty-four League and Cup games played and netting a total of 97 goals which still gives them an average score of two goals per game.

Our worst teams is  OLDHAM  this weekend as they have picked up a total of  twenty-second blank score sheets out of forty games played.

Our highest goal scorers in our 34th Season are  HIBERNIAN after they won 8-1 away to non-league team Bonnyrigg Ross in the Fourth Round of the Scottish WILLIAM HILL CUP in Week Twenty-Five.

JUNE TIGHE has become the tenth player to reach first place this season but only on goal difference. June is also the second lady to be in that spot this season so far. June’s combination picked her up a total of sixteen goals for the week. Six came from midweek with the other ten from the weekend. The goals at the weekend came from Celtic 4, Newcastle 4 and Sheffield United 3.

At the other end at that dreaded number 136 KATHY SOMERVILLE is now in her fifteenth weekend at the bottom over the season. Kathy’s combination picked her up a total of five goals for the week and her combination is Oldham, Tottenham and Yeovil. Emma Sawyer picked up a total of thirteen goals for the week. Her teams are once again Charlton, Hibernian and Leicester City and that now takes her eight goals in front.
