Week Thirty-Nine

In Week Thirty-Nine of the competition and we had our very last weekend prize money of £6 and it went to RICKY MILES who has become our 43rd winner of the season. Ricky won on a score of 14 goals which is his personal best. 
Ricky came back to Golden Goals after a break and although he has two of our top scoring teams, it’s Crystal palace that has let him down. The highest that he has been all season is 55th place and that was in week twenty-eight. With six blank score sheets at the weekends, Ricky has now picked up a total of 30 goals over the last three weeks. His teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
JAMES BLYTH is now out in front as he picks up a single goal from Blackburn and is now on a total of 110 goals. I am (Steve Reeve), now in second place still with my total of 109 goals. In third place this week on a total of 105 goals we have JUNE TIGHE. In fourth place on 100 goals we have CHRIS SETFORD.  STEPHEN CADWELL is now in fifth place with 99 goals.  

WEEKEND RESULTS
We had another crazy weekend with some of our teams picking up their highest score of the season. We had four of our teams without a game over the weekend with another nineteen teams that failed to score any goals. With our top voted teams picking up the goals this weekend, the average score shot back up to seven goals. The highest score that we had came from the English League Two where COVENTRY picked up their highest score of the season by beating Cheltenham 6-1 away. The six goals have taken their goals tally up to 74 goals and they have now scored in all of their last fifteen games.Coventry are our 66th voted English team and they started with Golden Goals back in the 1987/88 Season where they finished on a total of 52 goals. We then had a wait till the 2012/13 Season before they scored their highest score with 76. Their last appearance was in our 2014/15 Season where they finished on a score of 51 goals. Coventry are in their tenth season with us and over the years they have scored a total of 606 goals which gives them an average score of 60 goals per season to date. They have just one vote this season and they have picked up a total of twelve blank score sheets over the season so far. 

PREMIERSHIP 
Champions MANCHESTER CITY won 4-1 away to WEST HAM and that now that now gives them a total of 119 goals. West Ham picked up another single goal to give them a total of 52 goals.MANCHESTER UNITED are still in second place and they also won 2-1 at home to ARSENAL. United are now on 86 goals to Arsenal’s 75.LIVERPOOL are still in third place after they drew 0-0 at home to Stoke to get their seventh blank score sheet of the season. With Tottenham still in fourth place, CHELSEA remain in fifth place after they won 1-0 away to Swansea. Chelsea are now on 82 goals. CRYSTAL PALACE have moved up to eleventh place after they picked up their highest score of the season by winning 5-0 at home to LEICESTER CITY.  Palace are now on a total of 46 goals while Leicester picked up their eighth blank and now two in a row. EVERTON won 2-0 away to Huddersfield and they take their goals tally up to 47. WEST BROM won 1-0 away to NEWCASTLE and that is their 40th goal of the season while Newcastle picked up their fourteenth blank and also two in a row this week. BOURNEMOUTH lost 2-1 away to Southampton and they are now on 51 goals after a two game dry spell. 

CHAMPIONSHIP 
Champions WOLVES drew 0-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday to pick up their ninth blank of the season. CARDIFF remained in second place after they won 2-0 away to HULL. Cardiff are now on 76 goals and still ten points behind Wolves. Hull picked up their fifteenth blank of the season. 
In the play-off zone we still have three teams out of the four. They are  Fulham in third place still with ASTON VILLA still in fourth place after they drew 1-1 at home to Derby. Villa are now on 79 goals. MIDDLESBROUGH are still in fifth place after they won 2-0 at home to Millwall. Brough are now on a total of 73 goals. 
Meanwhile BRENTFORD lost 2-0 away to Barnsley and that is their thirteenth blank of the season. BURTON ALBION won 2-0 at home to BOLTON and that takes them up to 42 goals while Bolton picked up their twentieth blank score sheet and now two in a row. It’s 60 goals for NORWICH after they won 2-1 at home to LEEDS UNITED who are now on 70 goals.QUEENS PARK RANGERS are also on 60 goals as they win 3-1 at home against BIRMINGHAM. Birmingham take their goals tally to 44. It’s been a long while since IPSWICH had a big win as they win 4-0 away to READING. Ipswich are now on 58 goals while Reading picked up their ninetieth blank and now two in a row. SHEFFIELD UNITED picked up their fifteenth blank of the season after they lost 1-0 at home to Preston. 

LEAGUE ONE 
WIGAN may be promoted but they drew 1-1 at home to AFC Wimbledon and that is their 105th goal of the season.BLACKBURN in second place will also join them as they lost 1-0 away to CHARLTON. Blackburn picked up their eighth blank while Charlton hit goal number 65. 
In the play-off zone we still have just two of the four teams. They are Charlton now in fifth place with SCUNTHORPE in sixth place after they won 2-0 away to MK DONS. Scunthorpe are now on 66 goals while the Dons picked up their seventeenth blank and now three in a row which now means that they are relegated. 
Meanwhile PLYMOUTH won 2-1 at home to Rotherham and they are now on a total of 58 goals while SOUTHEND who are having a great goal run at the moment, won 2-0 away to BRADFORD. With nine goals in their last three games, Southend are now on 58 goals. Bradford picked up their fifteenth blank of the season. PORTSMOUTH lost 1-0 away to Bury and that is their thirteenth blank and now just one goal in their last four games. DONCASTER have now had a total of eighteen blank score sheets and now three in a row as they drew 0-0 away to Oldham. PETERBOROUGH are now on 85 goals as they win 2-0 at home to FLEETWOOD TOWN. Fleetwood have now had twelve blank score sheets and now two in a row. 

LEAGUE TWO 
LUTON are still in second place behind Accrington Stanley but they have been promoted as they win 3-1 at home to FOREST GREEN. Luton are now on a total of 101 goals while Green are on 59. 
We still have three teams in the play-off zone and they are EXETER now in fourth place as they lost 3-1 away to Stevenage.  Exeter are now on 72 goals. In sixth place we now have Coventry with LINCOLN CITY behind them in seventh place after they lost 1-0 to Leaders Accrington. Lincoln have now had a total of fifteen blank score sheets.  
Meanwhile MANSFIELD won 3-2 away to Yeovil and they are now on 73 goals. COLCHESTER picked up their fourteenth blank as they drew 0-0 at home against Swindon. PORT VALE are now on 55 goals as they lost 2-1 at home to Carlsile  

SCOTTISH RESULTS 
In the Scottish Premiership, CELTIC beat rivals RANGERS 5-0 at home to be crowned Champions for the seventh time in a row. Celtic are now on a total of 100 goals and they have now scored nine goals in their last two games against Rangers. Rangers picked up their eighth blank of the season and have dropped down to their place behind Aberdeen who won during the week. 
In the Championship FALKIRK won 1-0 at home to St Mirren and they are now on a total of 64 goals. In League One RAITH ROVERS have moved back down to second place in the league after they drew 0-0 at home to Alloa. Rovers are now on a total of seven blank score sheets. In League Two, PETERHEAD are still in second place after they win 2-1 at home against Edinburgh City. Peterhead are now on a total of 100 goals. ELGIN CITY drew 1-1 away to Montrose and they are now on 59 goals. STENHOUSEMUIR are in fourth place after they drew 1-1 away to Stirling. That is their 61st goal of the season.

The team with the best run of goals is currently TOTTENHAM who have scored in all of their last twenty-nine games. 

BURTON ALBION have picked up the most number of  blank score sheets this season with a total of twenty-two out of a total of forty-nine games played.  

Our highest goal scoring team in our 35th Season is PETERHEAD from the Scottish League Two. They picked up our highest score in week eleven as they won 9-0 at home to non-league team Colville Park in the WILLIAM HILL CUP Second Round. 

CHRIS BOLBERY is now celebrating his third week at the top as he picks up a total of eleven goals once again for the week.  His combination is Celtic, Manchester City and Wigan. Chris has moved up three places in our Champions League to eighth place. Chris has beaten Janice Conway on 318 goals in the 2000/01 Season and Alice Stubbs score also of 318 goals in the 2012/13 Season. He is now above Tony Patman’s score of 322 goals in our 1999/00 Season. Chris is now four goals clear of our 2013/14 Champion Paul Davey who picked up a total of twelve goals all coming from the weekend.

At the other end at number 149 we still have COLIN PINDER for his twenty-seventh weekend. Colin picked up a total of ten goals from the week. Colin has the combination of Colchester, Crystal Palace and Southend and more good news for him this week as he moves up three places in the table. Colin has beaten Richard LLoyds score of 154 in the 1993/94 Season, Ian Etheridge score of 156 in the 1999/00 Season and Freda Hilliersscore of 156 goals in the 1987/88 Season. This weekend Colin is at number thirty-one in the Losers League.
