Week Two

Here we are with Week Two of the competition and this weekend, we had our first prize money winners of the season. They are GARY BOLBERY and TONY GUY (2)  both winning on a score of 12 goals each, to share the £6 weekend prize money this week.

Gary started with us back in the 1998/99 Season on where he finished in the winning frame in 10th place with a total of 293 goals. Although Gary has not been in every season since then, he was last in the 2018/19 Season. There he finished in 110th place with a total of 251 goals. He had one weekend win.

Tony became Champion in the 2010/11 Season winning with a total of 307 goals and £60 in cash in his very first season with Golden Goals. He is currently in 21st place in our Champions League. Tony has been very supportive of the competition taking more than one combination each season. This week it was his second combo that won and this season he has picked a total of five, which is a record for us. It was his second combo that finished the highest last season in 10th place with a total of 312 goals. Our winners teams are

Gary BOURNEMOUTH 3, CELTIC 5, LIVERPOOL 4

         Tony  ARSENAL 3, CELTIC 5, LIVERPOOL 4

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

At last we can have our first look at who is in the lead for our 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot worth £40 this season. The prize money will go to the first person to reach 100 goals from their three teams.

Taking the lead after two weeks of football we have five players at the moment all with 12 goals each. They are STEVE AYRES, JASON COOPER, DANIEL HUGHES, TONY KING and CHRIS SETFORD. In Second place we have a total of thirteen players with 11 goals each while in third place with 10 goals each we have two players.

WEEKEND RESULTS

So we had our very first near full weekend fixture and it was not a very good start. We had twelve teams with no game over the weekend and another eighteen teams that failed to score any goals. So for our very first weekend the average score was a low score of 5 goals. So if your combination picked up more than that, then you have done very well this week.

The Highest score over the weekend was five goals and they went to CELTIC from the Scottish Premiership where they won 5-0 away to Ross County. They have a total of 56 votes.

Celtic are just one of four teams that have played in every season of Golden Goals with 38. The other three are Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United. In our first season in 1983/84 Celtic was our second most voted team for the Scottish and they scored a total of 116 goals. Their highest score came in the 2016/17 Season with 134 goals. They have scored 100 or more goals in nineteen of their thirty-eight seasons. They have score 100 or more in their last ten consecutive seasons.last season they finished on 108 goals.  Over the years they have scored a total of 3630 goals which gives them an average score of 95 goals per season to date.
