Week Twenty-Two

In Week Twenty-Two of the competition we had our fourth Rollover of the season worth a total of £15 this weekend, as we had just over 50% of our teams in action over the weekend.

In the first week of the New Year we had two players to share the cash as they both won on a score of just 7 goals each. They are MIKE ADKINS and JOHN NICHOLLS and they are both first time winners which takes our winners total up to twenty-four.

Mike started with Golden Goals in the 2010/11 Season and has only missed a couple of seasons since then. Mike in his first season finished in 90th place with a total of 234 goals. Last season he finished in 58th place with 249 goals. This season things are looking up for Mike as we see him reach his highest position to date and his first win in ages. He has picked up four blank weekend score sheets and Liverpool is his best team.

John started with us back in the 2005/06 Season where he finished in 49th place with a total of 240 goals. He also picked up two weekend wins. Last season John finished at the bottom of the table in 116th place with 131 goals. That is a Golden Goals record for the least number of goals scored in a season. In fact John finished bottom in the season before with his cat LUCIFER  with a total of 148 goals. This season John as been as high as 60th place in the first week of the season. He has picked up just one blank score sheet and his best team is Arsenal. Our winners teams are

Mike  LIVERPOOL 2, MANCHESTER CITY 2, WEST HAM 3

John  ARSENAL 1, ASTON VILLA 1, SWINDON 5

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Most of us managed to pick up some midweek goals this week and the race for the cash looks like it will be coming to an end soon. We now have twenty-two players that are nearer to that 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot this week. It was MICHAEL PEPPERRELL  our 2002/03 Champion that picked up the most amount of goals with a total of 13 goals. They came from Bournemouth, Manchester City and Sunderland. Michael is now on a total of 59 midweek goals.

We still have LOUIE HARRINGTON in the lead to start 2022. Louie has a new total of 73 goals. In second place we have LYANNA GRIMWOOD moving back up from three. She now has a total of 68 goals. In third place up from six we now have PETER PORTER on a total of 65 goals. In fourth place with 62 goals we now have BOB SOPER down from two and KEAMUS SETNA up from six. In fifth place we now have CHRIS BOLBERY coming back in the race with a total of 60 goals.

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had just twenty-eight of our teams that managed to play this weekend after the rest of the games were cancelled due to teams picking up the covid virus. Out of the ones that did play only six failed to score any goals. So it is once again no surprise that our weekend average score moved down form five last weekend to just 2 goals this weekend. The Highest score came from SWINDON on New Years Day where they picked up their biggest result of the season by winning 5-2 at home against Northampton. Swindon have taken their goals tally up to 29 after failing to score any goals in their last two games. Swindon became our 56th voted English team in Golden Goals when they first appeared in the 1986/87 Season. They finished on a total of 99 goals. It was not long before they scored 100 goals and that was back in the 1989/90 Season and it’s the only time that they have netted 100 goals in a season. Last season they finished on a total of 56 goals. This is their 21st Season with us and over the years they have netted a total of 1527 goals to date. This now gives them an average score of 72 goals per season. They have just one vote this season.

PREMIER LEAGUE

MANCHESTER CITY are still top here and now ten points in front this week after they won 2-1 away to ARSENAL in fourth place. City are on a total of 59 goals and have now scored in all of their last eleven games. Arsenal picked up goal number 49 and they have now scored in all of their last nine games. LIVERPOOL have moved down to third place after they drew 2-2 away to CHELSEA who are now in second place. Liverpool are on 60 goals while Chelsea are on 49. WEST HAM are back up to fifth place after they won 3-2 away to CRYSTAL PALACE. West Ham have taken their goals tally to 39 while Palace are on 29 goals. TOTTENHAM won 1-0 away to WATFORD but have dropped down to sixth place. Tottenham are on 22 goals and have now scored in all of their last eight games.
