Week Twenty-Four

Here we are with Week Twenty-Four of  the competition and we are back with our weekend cash prize money of £10. Our first winner of 2023 is BARBARA BARNES (1) who picked up the most number of goals at the weekend with 11. Barbara has already won some shared cash in Week Six with her first combo. Since then she has had a total of eight blank score sheets giving her a total of nine over the season. Barbara best team is Manchester City. Her teams are once again

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

All but one of us have managed to pick up some midweek goals again this week with another small change in the leading pack this week as we now have a total of 11 of our players are now over the half way mark for the cash. It was BRUCE SELF who picked up the most number of goals with 12 from his combination of  Celtic, Manchester United and Tottenham. The goals have taken his midweek total to 45.

We have joint leaders this week with JAMES BLYTH moving up from three with NICK HORTON up from two. Both are now on a total of 57 goals. In second place we now have HAYLEY ADKINS down from one now on a total of 56 goals. In third place we now have TOBY BICKNELL our 2014/15 Champion moving up from five and CHRIS NUNN moving up from fourth place. Both are on a total of 54 goals. In fourth place up from five we have RICK WOOD our 2007/08 Champion  and coming back in SIMON DICKINSON both with a total of 53 goals. In fifth place with a total of 52 goals we still have and KEITH THOMSON. In sixth place this week we have COLIN WEBB on a total of 51 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

This weekend we had 46 of our teams in action and out of them just 7 failed to score any goals. Now that we are getting back to normal, this weekends average score was 5 goals, so a good start to 2023.

The highest result that we had came from the FA CUP thitrd round where BRIGHTON won 5-1 away to MIDDLESBROUGH. Brighton have taken their goals total to 43 goals and have now scored a total of 14 goals in their last four games. Brough picked up goal number 42. We have had a busy weekend so here are all of their results. 

FA CUP Third Round

We had a total of 29 of our teams in cup action and out of them 13 are through to the next round so far. Our teams that are through are LEICESTER CITY who won 1-0 away to GILLINGHAM and they are on a total of 33 goals. Gillingham picked up their 19th blank of the season and now just one goal in their last five games. READING won 2-0 at home to WATFORD and they have taken their goals total to 32 while Watford picked up their 10th blank of the season and now just one goal in their last four games. TOTTENHAM won 1-0 at home to Portsmouth and they are on a total of 38 goals. BURNLEY won 4-2 away to BOURNEMOUTH and have taken their goals tally to 60 goals. After failing to score in their previous four games, Bournemouth are now on a total of 26 goals. FULHAM won 2-0 away to Hull and are on a total of 32 goals and they have now scored in all of their last six games. IPSWICH TOWN won 4-1 at home to Rotherham and they have taken their goals tally up to 58 goals. SHEFFIELD UNITED won 2-0 away to Millwall and are on a total of 46 goals and a goal run of seven games. SUNDERLAND won 2-1 away to Shrewsbury and they are on a total of 40 goals and a goal run of eight games now. WEST HAM won 1-0 away to Brentford and they are on a total of 18 goals. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY won 2-1 at home against NEWCASTLE. Wednesday are on a total of 57 goals while Newcastle after a two game dry spell, are on 36 goals. DERBY won 3-0 at home to Barnsley and they are now on a total of 48 goals. MANCHESTER CITY won 4-0 at home to CHELSEA and have taken their goals tally up to 54 goals. They have now scored in all of their 10 games. Chelsea have picked up another blank score sheet against City in a week and they have now had a total of seven and now two in a row.

In replays, WEST BROM drew 3-3 away to non-league Chesterfield and they are now on a total of 36 goals and a goal run of eight games. LUTON drew 1-1 at home against Wigan and that is their 34th goal of the season. LIVERPOOL drew 2-2 at home to Wolves and they are on a total of 38 goals. SWANSEA drew 1-1 away to Bristol City and they are on a total of 38 goals. LEEDS UNITED drew 2-2 away to Cardiff and they hav taken their goals total to 30 goals.  

The rest of our teams that went out in this round are CRYSTAL PALACE who lost 2-1 at home to Southampton. Palace hit goal number 20. HUDDERSFIELD lost 3-1 away to Preston and they are on a total of 26 goals. NORWICH lost 1-0 at home to Blackburn Rovers and that is their 7th blank of the season and now two in a row. STOCKPORT COUNTY lost 2-1 at home to Walsall and they are on a total of 44 goals. ASTON VILLA lost 2-1 at home to Stevenage. and they are on a total of 27 goals and have now scored in all of their last seven games. 

LEAGUE ONE

Top of the table PLYMOUTH drew 0-0 away to Bolton to pick up their 4th blank score sheet. BRISTOL ROVERS won 2-1 away to Cambridge Utd and they are on a total of 43 goals and have now scored in all of their last seven games. CHARLTON won 2-1 at home to LINCOLN CITY and they are now on a total of 48 goals. Lincoln picked up goal number 33rd goal of the season. 

LEAGUE TWO

SALFORD CITY won 2-1 at home to Northampton and they are now on a total of 33 goals. AFC WIMBLEDON drew 0-0 away to Crewe and that is their 10th blank of the season. MANSFIELD TOWN lost 3-2 at home to Barrow and they are on a total of 38 goals. SUTTON UNITED drew 2-2 away to Tranmere and they have taken their goals total to 27. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUE RESULTS

In the Premiership Champions CELTIC won 2-0 at home to Kilmarnock and they have taken their goals tally to 73 and a goal run of fifteen games. RANGERS in second place won 2-0 away to Dundee Utd and they are now on a total of 52 goals and have extended their goal run to sixteen games. HEARTS in third place drew 1-1 away to St Mirren and picked up goal number 36 and have now scored in all of their last six games. ABERDEEN are in fourth place as they win 2-0 at home to St Johnstone. Aberdeen are on a total of 55 goals. HIBERNIAN won 3-2 away to Motherwell and they are now on a total of 37 goals after failing to score in their last two games.

In League One ALLOA won 2-1 away to Queen of the South and are now on a total of 45 goals. KELTY HEARTS won 2-1 away to Clyde and they are on a total of 25 goals. 

In League Two STENHOUSEMUIR won 2-1 at home to Stranraer and they are on a total of 44 goals and they have now scored in all of their last eighteen games. BONNYRIGG ROSE lost 4-0 at home to Albion and they are now bottom of the table. Bonnyrigg picked up their 5th blank of the season.

Our WORST three teams are 

GILLINGHAM (16) EVERTON (17) WEST HAM (18) Total of 51 goals 

Our best performing team are now STENHOUSEMUIR as they have now scored in all of their last 18 league/cup games played. They have a total of 44 goals. That gives them an average score of 1.7 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is GILLINGHAM this weekend as they have picked up 19th blank score sheets out of 32 League/Cup games played. 

Our highest goal scorers in our 40th Season are CELTIC who won 9-0 away to Dundee Utd in the league and LIVERPOOL who won 9-0 at home to Bournemouth in the league both from Week Five.

Our 2010/11 Champion TONY GUY with his second selection, has remained at the top for his 11th consecutive weekend now. Tony picked up a total of 11 goals this week from Arsenal, Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday and is now just three goals in front. Grant Phillips has moved back to second place this weekend. Grant picked up a total of 16 goals from his combination of Celtic, Sheffield Wednesday and Tottenham.  

At the other end at 108 we have SANDRA NICHOLLS moving back down as she picked up a total of just 3 goals. Sandra’s teams are Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Leicester City. Sandra has now been here for a total of 11 weeks throughout the season.
