Week Twenty-Seven

Here we are with Week Twenty-Seven of  the competition and we had our 23rd winner in our 40th Season of  Golden Goals. The cash prize money of £5 went to DAVID BARRETT on a score of 9 goals.

David has been with us for six seasons now as he started with us in the 2017/18 Season. In his first season, David finished in the winning frame in 16th place with a total of 305 goals. In fact David has finished in the winning frame in his first four seasons. His best was in the 2019/20 Season with 321 goals and 4th place. Last season he finished in 112th  place with 172 goals. This season David has been as high as 2nd place in Weeks One and Three. He has only picked up two blank score sheets at the weekend. His teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Over half of us have managed to pick up some midweek goals again this week with another small change in the leading pack this week as we had another six players to reach that half-way mark which now gives us a total of 40 players are now over the half way mark for the £40 cash prize money. We had four players that picked up the most amount of goals with five each.

We now have JAMES BLYTH out in front this week with a total of 66 goals. James has Ipswich, Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday. In second place we still have COLIN WEBB now on a total of 63 goals. In third place both down from one we have HAYLEY ADKINS and NICK HORTON both now on a total of 62 goals. In fourth place we still have (me) STEVE REEVE and now joined with CHRIS DICKER up from five. We both are on a total of 61 goals. In fifth place with a total of 60 goals we now have TOBY BICKNELL our 2014/15 Champion and CHRIS NUNN both down from three. In sixth place this week we have FIONA CARHTY with BRUCE SELF both with a total of 59 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had just 42 of our teams in action and out of them 13 failed to score any goals. It was not a very good weekend for goals once again this week. The average score went down from five last weekend back down to 3 goals this weekend. So if you did better than that, well done. 

The highest result that we had came from the Scottish Premiership where HIBERNIAN picked up their biggest result of the season by winning 6-0 at home against out of form ABERDEEN. Hibs have taken their goals tally to 45 goals while Aberdeen picked up their 7th blank of the season and now three games without a goal.

Hibs are in the 7th Season with Golden Goals as they started with us back in the 1997/98 Season. They became our 20th Scottish team to be voted in. In their first season they scored a total of 43 goals. In the following season of 1998/99, they finished on a total of 89 goals which is their highest to date. Their last time out was back in the 2018/19 Season where they finished with a total of 61 goals. Over the season’s they have netted a total of 457 goals which gives them an average score of 65 goals per season. This season they have just 2 votes and they have picked up a total of eight blank score sheets. 

FA CUP 4th Round

We had a total of 15 of our teams in cup action and out of them only 5 have made it through to the next round so far. They are LEEDS UNITED who won 3-1 away to Accrington and they are now on a total of 39 goals. LEICESTER CITY won 1-0 away to Walsall and that is goal number 36 for them. TOTTENHAM won 3-0 away to Preston and have taken their goals total to 44. MANCHESTER UNITED won 3-1 away to READING and they are now on a total of 50 goals while Reading hit goal number 35. BRIGHTON won 2-1 at home to LIVERPOOL and they are on a total of 50 goals to Liverpool's total of 40.

In replays we have FULHAM who drew 1-1 at home to SUNDERLAND and they are on a total of 35 goals after a two game dry spell. Sunderland are on 44 goals and a goal run of eleven games now. IPSWICH TOWN drew 0-0 at home to BURNLEY. Ipswich picked up their 4th blank of the season after a goal run of seven games. Burnley picked up their 3rd blank of the season after a goal run of six games. LUTON TOWN drew 2-2 at home to Grimsby and they are on a total of 42 goals and a goal run of ten games. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY drew 1-1 at home to Fleetwood and that is goal number 60 for them. SHEFFIELD UNITED drew 3-3 away to non-league Wrexham and have taken their goals tally up to 53 goals and a goal run of ten games.

Other teams that went out are WEST BROM who lost 3-0 away to Bristol City to pick up their 7th blank score sheet after a goal run of eleven games. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

We had just three of our teams in action in this league with HUDDERSFIELD who lost 2-0 away to Coventry and they have now had a total of eleven blank score sheets. MIDDLESBROUGH won 2-0 at home to WATFORD and they are on a total of 45 goals. Watford picked up their 11th blank of the season. 

LEAGUE ONE

Top of the table Plymouth had no game this weekend with Sheffield Wednesday still in second as they played in the FA Cup.

In the Play-Offs we have Ipswich in third place with Derby still in fourth place.

Meanwhile CHARLTON lost 2-1 at home to Bolton and they picked up goal number 51. OXFORD UNITED lost 2-0 away to Burton. LINCOLN CITY drew 0-0 at home to Cambridge Utd and picked up their 12th blank score sheet and now two in a row. MK DONS lost 2-0 at home to Exeter and they have now had a total of thirteen blank score  and now two games in a row. BRISTOL ROVERS lost 5-1 away to Morecambe and they are on a total of 44 goals. PETERBOROUGH won 2-1 at home to Portsmouth and they are on a total of 49 goals. Bottom of the table FOREST GREEN ROVERS lost 2-1 away to Shrewsbury and they are on a total of 31 goals 

LEAGUE TWO

The highest teams that we have in this league are all in the Play-Offs. They are SALFORD CITY in fifth place who lost 3-2 away to CRAWLEY TOWN. Salford are on a total of 38 goals and have now scored in all of their last nine games. Crawley are back in play and are now on a total of 34 goals. SWINDON are in sixth place as they drew 3-3 at home to GILLINGHAM. Swindon  have taken their goals tally to 36 while Gillingham are now on a total of 23 goals. MANSFIELD TOWN have moved up to seventh place after they won 4-1 at home against Doncaster. Mansfield are now on a total of 43 goals.

Meanwhile after a two game dry spell, AFC WIMBLEDON won 1-0 at home to STOCKPORT COUNTY and they are on a total of 34 goals. Stockport picked up their 6th blank of the season and now two games in a row without a goal. SUTTON UNITED picked up goal number 28 after they won 1-0 away to Harrogate 

SCOTTISH LEAGUE RESULTS

In the Premiership Champions CELTIC won 2-0 away to Dundee Utd and they are now on a total of 86 goals. They have now scored in all of their last nineteen games. RANGERS in second place won 2-0 at home against St Johnston and they are on a total of 60 goals and a goal run of twenty games now. HEARTS after a goal run of nine games drew 0-0 away to Livingston to pick up their 7th blank of the season.

In League One ALLOA lost 4-0 away to Airdrie and they have now had a total of seven blank score sheets. KELTY HEARTS have taken their goals tally to 29 as they drew 3-3 away to Montrose.

In League Two STENHOUSEMUIR won 2-0 at home to Elgin and they are on a total of 48 goals and they have now scored in all of their last twenty-one games. BONNYRIGG ROSE lost 1-0 away to Dumbarton and that is their 7th blank of the season and now three games in a row. 

Our BEST three teams this week

Our best performing team are now STENHOUSEMUIR as they have now scored in all of their last 21 league/cup games played. They have a total of 48 goals. That still gives them an average score of 1.7 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is GILLINGHAM this weekend as they have picked up 19th blank score sheets out of 35 League/Cup games played. 

Our highest goal scorers in our 40th Season are CELTIC who won 9-0 away to Dundee Utd in the league and LIVERPOOL who won 9-0 at home to Bournemouth in the league both from Week Five.

Our 2010/11 Champion TONY GUY with his second selection, has remained at the top for his 14th consecutive weekend. Tony picked up a total of just 3 goals this week from Arsenal, Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday and is still just 2 goals in front. Mark Gregory remains in second place this weekend. Mark picked up a total of 3 goals from his combination of Celtic, Manchester City and Norwich.  

At the other end at 108 we still have SANDRA NICHOLLS as she picked up just one goal. Sandra’s teams are Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Leicester City. Sandra has now been here for a total of 14 weeks throughout the season. 

Here are our top ten and once again only a slight change in the positions.
