Week Forty-Two

In Week Forty-Two of the competition, we are near the end of time added on, or the old injury time. We are now down to 7 of our teams left in various finals. They are Manchester City, Manchester United, Leeds United, Southampton, Celtic, Rangers and now Ross County after they failed to win their last league game. The highest score that we had, came from STALKY (2) Bob Burgin with 11 goals. They came from Celtic 3, Fulham 4 and Newcastle 4. 

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

We finished with a total of 29 players who have reached 100 or more goals as the race for the record ends. The record to beat was 136 midweek goals by the record holder Daryl Nicholls from the 2016/17 Season. This is how it finished.

In first place was MARK JOHNSTON with a total of 130 goals. In second place TONY KING with a total of 127 goals. In third place BAILEY MORAN and ANN WELLARD both with a total of 125 goals. In fourth place GEOFF CARTHY with a total of 124 goals. In fifth place ANDY EYLES with a total of 123 goals. In sixth place JAMES SOMERVILLE with a total of 121 goals.  

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had 20 of our teams in action over the weekend and out of them only 2 failed to score any goals. We now have a total of 7 of our teams left to play in various cup finals, which are being played next week. We had a very good weekend with the last games of the season.  

The highest score that we had was 5 goals, and they came from the Premier League CRYSTAL PALACE. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

The very last league games of the season have now been played with MANCHESTER CITY finally become champions after they won 3-1 at home against WEST HAM. City become the first team to win the title four seasons in a row. City are now on a total of 111 goals and they have scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games. West Ham finished with a total of 66 goals. ARSENAL finished in second place after they won 2-1 at home to Everton. Arsenal finished with a total of 93 goals and have scored in all of their last 6 games. LIVERPOOL remained in third place as they win 2-0 at home to Wolves. Liverpool finished on a total of 113 goals. ASTON VILLA remained in fourth after they lost 5-0 away to CRYSTAL PALACE. Villa picked up their 7th blank score sheet and finished on a total of 79 goals. Palace finished on a total of 61 goals and had scored in all of their last 8 games. NEWCASTLE won 4-2 away to Brentford and that left them on a total of 96 goals. MANCHESTER UNITED won 2-0 away to BRIGHTON and are on a total of 74 goals. Brighton picked up their 12th blank score sheet and finished with a total of 64 goals. NOTTINGHAM FOREST won their last game 2-1 away to Burnley and finished with a total of 55 goals. CHELSEA won 2-1 at home to BOURNEMOUTH and finished on a total of 103 goals. Bournemouth finished on a total of 68 goals. FULHAM won 4-2 away to Luton and finished on a total of 65 goals. TOTTENHAM won 3-0 away to Sheffield United and finished on a total of 76 goals. 

SCOTTISH RESULTS

In the Premiership Champions CELTIC won their last league game 3-2 at home against St Mirren.  Celtic have taken their goals tally up to 109 goals. They have now scored in all of their last 11 league/cup games. Second place RANGERS drew 3-3 away to Hearts and are on a total of 107 goals. Rangers have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. KILMARNOCK drew 1-1 away to Dundee and they have finished the season on a total of 62 goals. ROSS COUNTY drew 2-2 at home against ABERDEEN and are on a total of 56 goals while Aberdeen finished on 63 goals and have scored in all of their last 6 games. HIBERNIAN drew 1-1 away to Livingston and finished on a total of 62 goals. 

Our BEST three teams this week

Our WORST three teams are 

 EAST FIFE (49) SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY (52) STENHOUSEMUIR (53)  

Total of 154 goals 

Our Best performing team ended with FALKIRK after they have scored in all of their last 23 league/cup games. They finished with a total of 108 goals which gave them an average score of 2.5 goals per game. 

Our worst performing teams are SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY and SUNDERLAND as they both have picked up 19 blank score sheets each out of Wednesday’s 51 league/cup games and Sunderland’s 48 league/cup games. 

Our highest goal scoring team in our 41st Season was NEWCASTLE UNITED after they won 8-0 away to Sheffield United in a league game in Week Eight. It looks like we could have joint Champion’s this season as the top two places both have Manchester City left in play.

JOHN FILTNESS is still at the top this weekend on goal average as he picked up a total of 10 goals at the week. He has now been at the top for a total of 15 weeks this season. His teams are Leicester City, Liverpool and Manchester City. John has moved up to 11th place in our “Champions League” this week. Andrew Hammond has remained in second place this weekend. Andrew picked up a total of  14 goals from the week with his teams of  Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.

At the other end at 110 we still have CHARLIE FARLEY (John Wood) for his 23rd consecutive weekend. John picked up just 4 goals this week. John has Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir. John has moved up to 25th place in our “Losers League” this week. 

We have one more week to do here as our 41st Season comes to the end. Here is the top ten for this weekend.
