Week Forty

In Week Forty of the competition we have had the full 90 minutes and now we are going in to time added on, or the old injury time. This is where your teams start to finish their season but we had a great weekend for goals once again. The highest score that we had came from ANDREW HAMMOND and MALCOM STUBBS with 14 goals each. 

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

We now have a total of 20 players that have now reached 100 or more goals this week as the race still goes on. The record to beat is 136 midweek goals and the record holder is Daryl Nicholls from the 2016/17 Season.

Leading the race for the record this week we  have MARK JOHNSTON now on a total of 126 goals. In second place we have BAILEY MORAN with a total of 122 goals. In third place we now have TONY KING still with a total of 119 goals. In fourth place we have ANDY EYLES with a total of 118 goals. In fifth place with 117 goals we have GEOFF CARTHY and in sixth place with 115 goals we have JAMES SOMERVILLE and ANN WELLARD.

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had all but 14 of our teams in action again over the weekend and out of the ones that did played, 11 of them failed to score any goals. We now have 25 of our teams that have now finished their season. We had the last games of the English Championship and the lower Scottish leagues but what a weekend we had. The highest score that we had was 5 goals, and we had two teams that picked them up from the Premier League. They are CHELSEA and MANCHESTER CITY.

PREMIER LEAGUE

ARSENAL are still on top this weekend after they won 3-0 at home against AFC BOURNEMOUTH and are now on a total of 90 goals. Bournemouth after a goal run of 10 games, picked up their 8th blank of the season. MANCHESTER CITY remain in second place after they won 5-1 at home to Wolves. City become our sixth team to pick up 100 goals and are now on a total of 102 goals, they have scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. LIVERPOOL in third place won 4-2 at home against TOTTENHAM. Liverpool are now on a total of 108 goals while Tottenham are on 71 goals. ASTON VILLA in fourth place lost 1-0 away to BRIGHTON. After they had scored in all of their last 7 league games, Villa picked up their 6th blank of the season. Brighton after they had failed to score in their last 2 games are now on a total 62 goals. FULHAM drew 0-0 away to Brentford and picked up their 12th blank of the season. NEWCASTLE won 4-1 away to Burnley and have now taken their goals tally up to 89. After they had failed to score in their last 2 games, NOTTINGHAM FOREST won 3-1 away to bottom of the table Sheffield United and are now on a total of 51 goals. CHELSEA won 5-0 at home against London rivals WEST HAM and have taken their goals total to 96 while West Ham picked up their 9th blank of the season.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Promoted and top of the table LEICESTER CITY, lost their last game 2-0 at home against Blackburn Rovers. Leicester finish with 103 goals and 7 blank score sheets this season. IPSWICH TOWN have finished in second place after they won 2-0 at home to Huddersfield. Ipswich finish with a total of 104 goals.

In the Play-offs we have three of the four teams. In third place we now have LEEDS UNITED who lost 2-1 at home to SOUTHAMPTON. Leeds are on a total of 93 goals while Southampton in fourth place after they had failed to score in their previous 2 games, are on a total of 96 goals. NORWICH finished in sixth place after they lost 1-0 away to Birmingham. Norwich after they had scored in all of their last 17 league/cup games, picked up their 6th blank of the season.

Meanwhile MIDDLESBROUGH won 3-1 at home to Watford and have finished on a total of 87 goals and a goal run of 8 games. PLYMOUTH have failed to score in their last 2 games but won their last game 1-0 at home to Hull. Plymouth finished on a total of 68 goals. STOKE won their last game 4-0 at home against BRISTOL CITY and finished on a total of 59 goals. Bristol City picked up their 18th blank of the season and finished on a total of 61 goals. SUNDERLAND have failed to score in their last 3 league games and lost 2-0 at home to SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY, Sunderland finished on a total of 53 goals. Wednesday finished on a total of 52 goals and a goal run of 6 games. SWANSEA CITY lost their last game 1-0 at home to Millwall and picked up their 11th blank of the season. Swansea finished with a total of 66 goals.

LEAGUE ONE Play-offs 1st Leg

In the Play-offs we still have two teams with Barnsley who finished in sixth place, lost their first leg game and PETERBOROUGH finished in fourth place also lost their 1st leg, 1-0 away to Oxford Utd. That is Boroughs 6th blank of the season.

SCOTTISH RESULTS

In the Premiership Champions CELTIC won 3-0 at home to Hearts and are now on a total of 99 goals. Celtic have now scored in all of their last 8 league/cup games. Second place RANGERS won 4-1 at home against KILMARNOCK to take their goals tally up to 98. Kilmarnock picked up their 60th goal of the season. ABERDEEN won 1-0 at home against St Johnston and are on a total of 52 goals. ROSS COUNTY won 2-1 at home to HIBERNIAN and are on a total of 52 goals. Hibs are on 58 and have now scored in all of their last 7 games. goals

In League One promoted FALKIRK drew 2-2 at home to Alloa and finish on a total of 108 goals and have now scored in all of their last 23 league/cup games. KELTY HEARTS lost 4-1 away to Hamilton and finished with a total of 61 goals. COVE RANGERS won their last league game 3-1 at home to Edinburgh City. Rangers finished on a total of 73 goals.

In League Two promoted STENHOUSEMUIR are still top of the table after they lost 2-0 away to Stranraer Stenhousemuir finished with a total of 9 blank score sheets and a total of 53 goals CLYDE won 3-0 away to Elgin City and finished with a total of 55 goals. EAST FIFE lost 2-1 at home to the Spartans and finished with a total of 49 goals.

Our BEST three teams this week

Our WORST three teams are

 EAST FIFE (49) CRYSTAL PALACE (49) NOTTINGHAM FOREST (51)  Total of 149 goals

Our Best performing team are FALKIRK after they have now scored in all of their last 23 league/cup games. They have a total of 108 goals which gives them an average score of 2.5 goals per game.

Our worst performing team is SUNDERLAND this week as they have picked up 19 blank score sheets out of their 48 league/cup games.

Our highest goal scoring teams in our 41st Season are NEWCASTLE UNITED after they won 8-0 away to Sheffield United in a league game in Week Eight.

JOHN FILTNESS is at the top again this weekend as he picks up a total of 12 goals from the week. John has now been at the top for a total of 13 weeks throughout the season. His teams are Leicester City, Liverpool and Manchester City. John has now moved up 14 places and is now in 16th place in our “Champions League”. Andrew Hammond has moved up to second place this weekend. Andrew picked up a total of 16 goals from the week with his teams of  Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City. He is 7 goals behind John this weekend.

At the other end at 110 we still have CHARLIE FARLEY (John Wood) for his 21st consecutive weekend. John picked up 3 goals this weekend. John has Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir. John has moved up to 32nd place in our “Losers League” this week. 

There was another change in the top ten this week due to the great results we are getting.
